Work Text:
Lan Wangji is going to murder Wei Wuxian. The head disciple of the Jiang sect is an absolutely shameless, idiotic, messy, uncontrollable, fool. He seems to lack a filter and isn’t hesitant to proudly debate with Lan Qiren about cursed evil cultivation. His voice seems to follow Lan Wangji wherever he goes, even in the isolated springs. His laughter bounces from wall to wall, from tree to tree, from ear to ear. The added and intentional noise has definitely disturbed the delicate and peaceful balance of Cloud Recesses, but it has bothered Lan Wangji even more.
Growing up and becoming the embodiment of the Lan rules has definitely given Lan Wangji more self control and patience than the normal human being. He is usually able to ignore the filthy magazines Wei Wuxian passes to him or the loud, inappropriate, curses leaving Jiang Cheng’s mouth. He is even able to tolerate Wei Wuxian climbing on his roof at the crack of dawn after a week’s worth of drinking and reciting sickeningly sweet, love poems.
But lately, something weird has been going on with the head Jiang disciple. He has been, dare I say it, flirting with Lan Wangji. Of course, the Second Jade of Lan is as oblivious to this as Lan Qiren is to the fact that both of his nephews are falling for troublemakers.
Everyone, including the shy and quiet Wen Ning, have noticed the sleek and provocative ways that Wei Wuxian has been tempting Lan Wangji lately. His attempts range from sending him love notes during class to following him around like a lovesick puppy and reciting just how, “perfect you are Lan Zhan. Nobody in the whole of China can come even close to your beauty, Lan Zhan. Well..except for A-li. But Lan Zhan, nobody has your golden eyes, or tall figure, or muscular arms, or jiggly bubble b-,” Wei Wuxian would have continued babbling on and on about his, “precious Lan Zhan,” but thankfully Jiang Cheng dragged him away.
One would think that the intelligent Lan Wangji would catch a hint and realize Wei Wuxian’s feelings for him, but it was actually the complete opposite.
The Second Jade of Lan thought Wei Wuxian was purposely saying all these cheesy confessions in order to expose Lan Wangji’s rather embarrassing secret: His ears. His alarmingly red ears that heated up and came to life as soon as he receives a compliment. You’re probably wondering how the hell did Wei Wuxian know about Lan Zhan’s, in his own words, “cute and adorable ears.”
Wei Wuxian was for once copying down the Gusu Lan rules when all of a sudden he dropped his pen on the clean floors of the LIbrary Pavillion.
“Shit.”
“Wei Wuxian! No cursing allowed.”
Wei Wuxain sheepishly looked up and gave Lan Wangji a shy smile. “Ah, sorry Lan Zhan. I dropped it by mistake. Really. I swear,” putting his two fingers up in a mock salute.
“Mn. Clean it up,” is the only response he received from Lan Wangji.
This is also when shit started going downhill. Or maybe uphill in Lan Wangji’s case, if you know what I mean. Wei Wuxian had slowly bent down, arching his back in an exaggerated manner accentuating his tiny waist. He had meant to seductively look back at Lan Wangji and throw him a wink or two but when he tilted his head slightly to the right, he caught a glimpse of Lan Wangji’s alarmed eyes. But that wasn’t what caught his attention. It was the hint of red that peeked through his jet, black, hair.
Wei Wuxian was not only baffled by his discovery, he was also pleased to be the one to discover Lan Wangji’s little secret.
“Lan Zhan,” he approached the frozen figure and touched his shoulder, “are you-are you perhaps embarassed Lan Zhan? Have I, an innocent disciple of the Jiang sect, finally broken the fearless and stoic Lan Wangji?”
“...Leave.” And that Wei Wuxian did. He was proud of being an annoying and shameless fool, but he recognized a warning tone when he heard one. I mean, he did grow up listening to Zidian’s cackling in every corner of Lotus Pier...
One would think that Lan Wangji would forget those embarrassing 15 seconds, but surprisingly he didn’t. This is why he is heading to Lan Xichen’s personal quarters to inform him(he would never dare say the word complain, that would be improper of him) about Wei Wuxian’s disrespectful and atrocious actions.
“Wangji,” Xichen said with his usual smile, “is there something bothering you?” Leave it to Lan Xichen to notice the barely noticeable frown on his brother’s face.
Lan Wangji looked down, cheeks getting just a tiny bit warmer. “Mn.”
Lan Xichen has always been an observant man. Quiet, but observant. He had a hunch regarding Lan Wangji’s visit today, but he would let his brother tell him his problems himself.
“Wei Yi- Wei Wuxian is behaving inappropriately.”
Lan Xichen was fighting the giggle that was threatening to fall from his lips, but his amusement was very clear. “I’m going to need to you elaborate on that, Wangji.”
Lan Wangji looked away from his brother’s amused gaze, cheeks brightening up a fraction and mumbled, “...I believe he is poking fun at me. He throws crude and shameless words at me and behaves in an even more obscene manner.”
He couldn’t help but laugh as he said, “Wangji, how so? I know Master Wei is a lively and cheery soul, but I’m sure he would never stoop so low and intentionally bother you.”
Lan Wangji hesitated but was still able to communicate with his brother, in that weird way of his that, “Wei Wuxian had been bending over seductively over every surface and making such crude and disrespetcul faces,” sending him letters that talked about his, “bright and golden eyes,” or the times where, “Brother, I cannot-,”
“Wangji, I think that’s enough,” he offered him a tiny smile, trying to calm his down and bring him some reassurance.
“...are you aware of how Master Wei feels about you? Have you talked to him about how you feel?”
“...,” he received no response back, but he didn’t miss the red blush on the tips of his younger brother’s ears.
Lan Xichen tried to subtly smirk at Wangji, but let’s be honest, Xichen is the most amused when it comes to his brother and Master Wei. “Wangji,” he said softly, “what if Master Wei has romant- overly friendly feelings for you?”
“Brother,” Lan Wangji looked down, the red of his ears intensifying, “Wei Ying would never feel that way about me. He is interested in Mianmian.”
Lan Xichen couldn’t hide the tiny giggle that escaped his lips, “Oh my, Wangji. Where did you get that idea from? Yes, Master Wei is quite flirty with the female cultivators but he is also playful with almost everyone.”
“...Wei Ying is fun, loud. Wangji is boring, quiet. Never going to happen.”
“Wangji, what if Master Wei likes those things about you? But you will never know, if you don’t try. I don’t want to force you to confront Maste Wei, but please think about it.”
“Mn. Thank you, brother. I will be retiring to my room.”
Lan Xichen could hear the knobs turning in Wangji’s head, worrying and trying to decide what to do. He could only hope that his smart yet closed off brother would be able to make the correct choice.
“Ah, Wangji. You sensible brother of mine.”
Back in the Jingshi, Lan Wangji was in fact worrying his pretty, little head off. His mind was conjuring the multiple scenarios that could happen and the embarrassment that he would face. How he would have to hide in one of the many caves in Cloud Recesses or renounce being a Lan disciple and become a rogue cultivator. But, he also thought about him and Wei Wuxian traveling the world together and coming back to Cloud Recesses and give Lan Qiren more reason to Qi deactivate. While these two opposing thoughts were fighting each other, Lan Wangji ultimately decided
“I will tell Wei Ying tomorrow.”
