Work Text:
Izuku awakens slowly, head and body pounding with pain. The ceiling swims a bit before he can focus in on it. It's white, like the walls, and there's a sharp pressure in the crook of his elbow.
Izuku has been there enough times to know that this is a hospital. Through the fog and pain he turns to the left. A head of white and red hair fills Izuku's vision.
"Shouto," he manages to croak weakly. Said man's head shoots up.
"Izuku," he says desperately. His hand cups Izuku's face, impossibly gentle.
"What happened?" Izuku whispers. He can't remember much. There was a villain. He can recall fighting them. They had some sort of telekinesis or gravity quirk.
Shouto sighs, moving his hand up to run through Izuku's hair, trembling softly.
"The villain sent you through three buildings," he says, eyes distant.
"Is everyone okay?" Izuku asks, trying to sit up, but crying out with a loud screech of pain as his back spasms dangerously.
Shouto pushes him down, rubbing his shoulders and breathing heavily.
"It's okay. Everyone was evacuated in time. Uravity's team saw to it. Minimal civilian injuries. You had the worst of it." His hands aren't leaving Izuku, they trail up to once more cup his face.
"How bad was it?" Izuku asks Shouto. The pain he felt when trying to get up was more severe than he's used to. More pain than he's felt in years. Three buildings...if he hadn't been powered up with One For All at the time...it would've been bad.
"It was rough," Shouto admits, his face in a severe frown. His hand is still delicately running through Izuku's green locks.
"It was nothing permanent, but you'll have to be on rest for a few months with a little physical therapy after."
Izuku groans slowly and Shouto tightens his grip on his hair.
"No. Don't even think about it. You scared me enough today."
"I wasn't going to do anything."
"You were thinking of cutting your recovery time, I know you."
Izuku pouts petulantly.
"You scared me," Shouto says again, quiet, "you looked dead. I thought you were dead for a minute."
The green-haired man pales.
"Shouto, I'm sorr-"
"It isn't your fault," he interrupts Izuku, "we have the one responsible in jail. "
"Still. I'm sorry. I'll take it easy. Didn't know it was that bad." Izuku reaches up, careful not to jostle the IV or his injuries, and meets Shouto's hand on his face.
"It could've been so much worse, if there weren't so many doctors with healing quirks." Shouto sounds so shaken. Izuku grips his hand hard.
"I'm here," he says, quietly, "I'm here, don't worry, we'll make it."
The other man takes a deep, shuddering breath. It sounds almost wet. Izuku rubs circles on Shouto's palm with his fingers. For Izuku it was only a moment. Fighting the villain and the waking up here. For Shouto, how long has it been? How long has he been waiting for his partner to wake up?
"I love you," Izuku says, tightening his grip once more, "I love you so much."
This seems to break something in Shouto, he leans down, kissing the top of Izuku's head, a few silent, quivering sobs reverberating through his skin.
"Love you too," his whispers, grabbing Izuku's hand back. The pressure is almost painful, but Izuku bears it easily.
They sit like that, noiseless save for the beeping of machines and the hitching of Shouto's breath.
He lifts up before diving toward Izuku's face.
"Love you," he murmurs once more on the other man's lips, before pressing against them desperately. It's comparatively chaste to other kisses they've had, but it's somehow more intimate. Shouto's lips are delicate on Izuku's, tenderly pressing open his lips. The green-haired man lays pliant, for it's all he can do with his injuries, but he presses back as much as he can, just as desperately.
Shouto releases him, hand returning to cup his cheek.
"Don't do that again," he says, eyes soft.
"I'll try not to," Izuku replies.
Shouto pinches his cheek, before kissing him again. It's a quick peck, but eternally fond.
“Please.”
“Seriously. I’ll try. I don’t want to be thrown through any more buildings, it hurts.”
Shouto frowns.
“Are you in pain? I’ll get the nurse.” He presses the on call button a little awkwardly with his left hand.
A few minutes later the nurse steps in, smiling.
“Midoriya. Todoroki.”
“He’s woken up, but having pain.”
The nurse heads over, checking the lines on the IV.
“I’ll give you some more pain medication, but with how many quirks were used on you, you;ll probably pass right back up.”
Shouto’s grip tightens.
“He’ll take it.”
“Are you sure?” Izuku asks, concerned.
“It’s fine. I don’t want you in any pain, okay?”
“Okay,” Izuku gives the nurse a nod and she gets to work.
Only a few minutes later and Izuku can feel himself drifting again. He falls asleep to Shouto’s hand, gentle on his face.
