bouquets and kisses

Summary:

Wei WuXian found a bouquet placed neatly on top of his table.

Work Text:

Wei WuXian found a bouquet of nicely arranged assorted flowers in their dining room when he woke up from his nap. There wasn't any note attached to it as Wei WuXian inspected, and he usually won't be interested in things that weren't his but curiosity won him over and now he's gently flipping the bouquet on all sides, trying to figure out what it's doing there on his table.

No clue on its sudden appearance, Wei WuXian shrugged, as he decided to sniff the flowers, a required action whenever someone would be given one. Or so that's what Wei WuXian thought people should do based on the movies that he had watched. He didn't personally know. He never received one before.

Wei WuXian inhaled a lungful of the bouquet, pleased when the colorful smell of the flowers tickled his senses. He didn't know shit about flowers, but he's sure that the arrangement of the bouquet was perfect for it to smell wonderful like this. Not to mention, it looked fantastic too. Like it was made to sit prettily on top of his table.

Addicted to the overwhelming scent that he didn't know he'll need until now, Wei WuXian closed his eyes as he sniffed the flowers once more for a more dramatic effect.

"Is it nice?"

Halfway through inhaling the scent of the addicting flowers, Wei WuXian almost choked when he heard the familiar voice. His eyes flew wide open, like a deer caught in the headlights.

Wei WuXian forced a smile, embarrassed on how he possibly looked to the other while doing that. Not to mention, it wasn't even his.

"Oh, Lan Zhan! Fancy meeting you here." Wei WuXian cringed at how absurd he sounded. Of course Lan WangJi would be at his place. Frankly, it's even more surprising for him to be alone in his apartment. Lan WangJi became a constant and a very much welcomed presence in his life, more so now that they are together.

It's been months since they came about, been months since they overcame the dark path, but thinking about him being romantically involved with someone, one that accepted him fully for who he is, being with Lan WangJi specifically, still made Wei WuXian's heart flutter.

"Are the flowers good?"

Wei WuXian was brought out of his musings by a quick kiss on his cheek. He furiously rubbed the spot where Lan WangJi's lips had landed, acting annoyed when in fact, he just wanted to keep his cheek from showing the oncoming obvious blush.

Feigning indifference now, Wei WuXian gently turned the bouquet over, still on his quest to locate the recipient. "Is it yours?"

"Mn, I bought it earlier on my way home."

"Ah, really? I was wondering why it's here earlier." Wei WuXian almost had his hopes up that this might be for him, but then he remembered something. So much for being hopeful. "For what though? Are you going to give it to one of your clients? Or for my sister? You'll meet the Jins later, right?"

Lan WangJi stared at him, but Wei WuXian was too lost in his own disappointment that the bouquet wasn't for him to even notice the look of disbelief on Lan WangJi's face.

"Well, how thoughtful of you.” Wei WuXian commented, albeit sounding a bit sad. He finally detached his eyes from the beautiful flowers to check on his lover's reaction, a little startled when he's met with Lan WangJi's intense stare. Uh-oh, maybe he noticed his disappointment. How immature of him.

So in an attempt to regain his pride, Wei WuXian smiled at him, before handing the flowers back on Lan WangJi's lax hand. “The flowers are really nice. Shijie will really  appreciate this.”

Lan WangJi looked at Wei WuXian, then at the flowers on his hands, then back at Wei WuXian again, before releasing a deep sigh. He almost looked pained, like the weight of the bouquet on his hand troubled him. Wei WuXian can't understand why he reacted like that, but that's already out of his concerns. A little distracted, Wei WuXian decided to just buy his own bouquet tomorrow.

"Please don't make me say it."

Wei WuXian proceeded to open his fridge in search for something to drink, while Lan WangJi remained on his spot, still looking part exasperated.

"Say what?"

"I didn't buy it for anyone.” Lan WangJi finally moved from his place, as he closed the fridge before Wei WuXian could pull something out of it. Wei WuXian was annoyed, obviously, because he didn't get the flowers, and now he can't drink too?

His annoyance was quick to dissipate though, when Lan WangJi shoved the flowers back in his chest.

“The flowers aren't for anyone. They're for you."

"Oh." A beat passed, and then silence. When realization finally dawned on Wei WuXian, Lan WangJi's ear had taken a shade of red, though his face remained impassive. A huge smile appeared on Wei WuXian's face, no longer in the mood to sulk now that Lan WangJi had confirmed that yes, this wonderful bouquet was indeed for him.

Wei WuXian sniffed the flowers gleefully now, feeling quite light headed. He didn't know if it was because of the smell of the flowers, or from the fact that Lan WangJi bought it for him. "Really? For me?"

"Mn.” Lan WangJi gave him a smile of his own, a subtle tug of the corners of his lips, but enough to melt Wei WuXian's insides. “Really. For you."

They have been dating for months already, god dammit, but Wei WuXian was still very much in love with this gorgeous man. This very thought had scared him before, resulted in a mess of tears and apologies too, but now that he could finally allow himself to experience this wonderful feeling— was overwhelming. Overwhelming but in a positive way. Being in love, and receiving love in return felt so good.

Wei WuXian could still confidently say that the months that he's been with Lan WangJi, have been the best months of his life.

“Wei Ying?” Lan WangJi called him out, and only then did Wei WuXian snapped back to reality. He shouldn't feel this happy over this simple thing, but he can't help his heart from doing its backward flips.

“Ah, yes. Sorry.” Wei WuXian smiled apologetically, as he cradled the flowers in his chest. Lan WangJi's expression turns fonder. "What's the occasion though?"

"Nothing. I just thought that they're pretty and then I remembered you."

"Why? Because I'm pretty too?”

His statement obviously caught Lan WangJi off guard, but he recovered pretty early, though his ears still bore that certain shade that always gave him away. "Because I never bought you one before." Lan WangJi paused, and then he added, "You're always pretty."

It's now Wei WuXian's turn to blush, as he felt his face instantly heat up. Lan WangJi looked quite smug. All the remaining teasing remarks died on his throat, ignoring the compliment and opted to deliver how much he appreciated this gesture instead. "Lan Zhan, this is really sweet."

"Mn."

"But this is really sweet! I love this."

"I'm glad that you're happy."

Lan WangJi didn't look like he understood just how much this action meant for Wei WuXian, so the latter crossed the few distance between them, settled the bouquet gently on the counter before pulling Lan WangJi into a kiss.

Lan WangJi went still for a second, but when Wei WuXian wrapped his arms around his neck, he responded immediately.

Their kiss didn't last that long though, as Wei WuXian was pulling away before it got heated. He placed one last soft lingering kiss on Lan WangJi's still parted lips, satisfied when Lan WangJi made a move to chase his lips back.

"If I knew you'd react like this, then I should've bought you the entire flower shop."

Wei WuXian's laugh rang clear, despite the seriousness in Lan WangJi's voice. "Don't be silly. This is already more than fine."

It’s a peaceful day at his office, and Wei WuXian was in the process of reviewing some important files when his secretary knocked at his door.

“Come in.”

His secretary immediately opened his door, bowing at him first before speaking up. “Sir, excuse me but you have a package.”

“What is it? I don't remember being notified of receiving one today.” If he was, then his Secretary must have reminded him, but she was just as confused as he was. Clueless in what it was, Wei WuXian asked to send the package in.

“It came with a letter too, Sir.”

His secretary came forward with a sealed mail, and Wei WuXian wasted no time in opening it. It was a simple letter written in a very familiar neat script, and after Wei WuXian was done in reading it, a full smile was on display on his face.T

"This silly man.” was what Wei WuXian had muttered under his breath, as dozens and dozens of flowers were placed inside his office.

Hello, Wei Ying. The owner refused to sell his flower shop so I just resorted to buying most of the flowers on display. I didn't count them but I think I deserve a lot of kisses in return. Be safe always, and don't skip your meals again.”
