Chapter Text

"Hello, Mr. Phoenix Wright."

The cool voice of Franziska von Karma drifted through the phone.

"M-Miss von Karma!" Phoenix stammered, surprised and caught off guard. "To what do I,um, owe this, er, pleasure?"

"Do not waste my time with small talk, fool," Miss von Karma was quick to shut him down. "I am calling because there is a formal dance that many prestigious families, such as the von Karmas, must attend. As the main representative of the von Karma household, I require a date for this dance."

"O-oh!" Phoenix couldn't believe this was happening. He was starting to get very afraid of where this was going. "I'm sorry Miss von Karma, I'm afraid I will have to-"

"Do not flatter yourself, foolish boy," Franziska barked. "Now, is Miss Maya Fey present in your office? My dear brother has told me she is always there."

"What?" Phoenix was dumbfounded.

"I'm here!" Maya spoke up quickly. "He has you on speaker."

"Ah, Miss Maya. If I may, I request you take the phone off speaker so we can speak privately."

"Yeah, sure!" Maya took the phone from Phoenix and did as the von Karma said. She held the phone up to her ear. "What's up?"

"As you must have heard me before, I require a date to a certain dance in the near future," Franziska began. "I know we are not well acquainted, but I was hoping we could use this opportunity to change that. Miss Fey, may I-"

"Take me to the dance?" Maya finished, her barely contained excitement bubbling over. "Yes, yes, a million times yes! It sounds super fun!"

"I'm sure it will be, Miss Fey." Franziska couldn't conceal the happiness in her voice.

"Should we meet beforehand to discuss what to wear and how the event will go?" She squealed. "Here, let me give you my number!"

"Of course, Miss Fey," Franziska's formal tone relented slightly as the conversation moved off-book. "Let me find a slip of paper... Hang on..."

Maya recited her digits and did a silent happy dance. 'I'm going to a formal!' she mouthed at Nick.

"Thank you Miss Fey, I will be sure to keep in contact with you to inform you of the details," Franziska affirmed. "It has been lovely speaking with you, and I look forward to hearing your voice in the future."

"It's been pretty sweet hearing from you too!" Maya smiled at the phone, as if Franziska could see her.

"Now, if you wouldn't mind putting Phoenix Wright back on the phone-?"

"Oh, of course!" Maya handed him the phone. Phoenix took it, slightly confused.

"Hi again-" Phoenix started, but Franziska cut him off.

"Since my darling brother is a von Karma by adoption and status, he will also be attending this dance. Thus, he also requires a date. Unfortunately, he has himself wrapped up by work and is unable to take the initiative to get one himself, so I will be finding one for him."

On the other end of the phone, Miles Edgeworth had immediately put down the paperwork he was looking over to give Franziska an expression of pure panic.

"He is useless in this department anyway, it is much more productive for me to do this for him." Franziska drawled, ignoring Miles.

"So I must ask," she mused. "Would you, Phoenix Wright, be willing to accompany my little brother to this formal?"

"M-Miles?" Phoenix was trying to process the entire situation. Maya was frantically nodding and silently begging him to say yes.

"Yes, you complete and utter fool, Miles Edgeworth, the man whom you have been friends with for over a decade?" Franziska massaged her temples. "He requires a date. I am asking if you would be so kind to fill that spot."

"Sure?" Phoenix's head was spinning. He caught his reflection in the window and was embarrassed to see the noticeable blush on his cheeks.

"Incompetent fool," she muttered. "Very well then. I shall pass the message along to him that you have agreed to be his date. I trust you have his contact info?"

"I do," Phoenix was dumbfounded. He was going to a dance. With Miles Edgeworth. Was this real? He secretly hoped it was.

"I suggest you contact him soon to acquire further details of this event. Good day to you, Phoenix Wright." She hung up before he could reply.

"I HAVE A DATE!" Maya was jumping up and down.

"I... have a date..?" Phoenix rubbed the back of his neck, confused and flustered.

"I have a date," Franziska murmured to herself contentedly.

"I have a date," Miles had his head in his hands, praying that all of this was a bad dream.
