Chapter Text
Who knew having students live in the dorms would force him to have such an active role in their lives?
When Aizawa walked into class that day, he hadn’t expected to see an empty seat where Aoyama normally sat. Not that the fact really bothered him, as he was just one of his students after all, and he was a lot to handle, more often than not.
“Oi. Settle down, everyone. Bakugou, please put your feet on the floor.” The room quickly fell silent and those not already in their seats scurried to them. Aizawa threw Bakugou an unamused look when the teen didn’t follow his directions right away. With a small “tch”, Bakugo lowered his feet, and slouched down in his chair. Aizawa ignored his behavior, and instead turned to the class rep.
“Iida. Where is Aoyama?” Iida stood immediately, chopping the air with one hand.
“Sir! He has informed me that he is unwell and will be resting in his dorm room. I advised him to see Recovery Girl, but he insisted he was alright to just remain in his dorm room.” Aizawa nodded, a frown crossing his face for a moment, before it returned to its neutral state.
“Very well. Now, let’s get on with homeroom.”
----
The rest of the day was rather uneventful, though Aizawa did still take a nap during the lunch hour at his desk in the teacher’s office, preferring to sleep over eat. When Hizashi woke him up as usual, 20 minutes before the next period with a cup of coffee and an egg sandwich, Aizawa ate in silence as he listened to Hizashi’s cheerful chatter.
“You wouldn’t believe the progress they all made yesterday! They’re all working so hard, I’m surprised none of them are sleeping in class today.” Aizawa paused mid bite, a thought wriggling in the back of his mind.
“How were their conditions after the quirk training session? Was anyone seriously exhausted or overworked?” Hizashi frowned as he thought back to the previous afternoon.
“Well… Midoriya managed to not break any bones. I believe Kirishima sustained a small cut on his arm, which was easily patched up.” Aizawa nodded, remembering the small bandage on Kirishima’s forearm.
“Oh! Aoyama held his laser for an extra few seconds yesterday. It was quite an improvement, and much more accurate. He did throw up rather spectacularly right afterwards though. I wonder if he’s okay...” Aizawa sighed, putting down his sandwich and downing the rest of his coffee in one go.
“Hey, where are you going?” Aizawa just pulled on his jacket and grabbed his wallet and keys from his desk.
“Please tell Principal Nedzu that I will need cover for the last two periods today. I have some urgent errands to run.” And with that, Aizawa quickly left the office, leaving a surprised Hizashi behind him. He quickly walked down the halls and out to the parking lot, heading straight for his car. Aizawa had some medication to purchase.
----
“Aoyama? It’s Aizawa-sensei.” The door opened and Aizawa was met with the surprised, yet exhausted looking face of one Aoyama Yuga. The normally flamboyant teen’s bedraggled appearance surprised Aizawa, though he kept his face neutral as he nodded a greeting at him.
“May I come in?” Aoyama nodded, and opened the door wider, before quickly sitting back down on his bed, face looking green. Aizawa winced at the brightness of the room, but ignored it, instead choosing to turn to the pale teen.
“So. You didn’t feel the need to visit Recovery Girl, despite your condition?” Aoyama shook his head, looking a little sheepish. The motion had clearly been too much for the teen though, as his eyes widened in panic, and he grabbed for his trash can, vomiting into it. Aizawa sighed, but he set down the bag he was carrying and helped the retching teen by pulling his hair back and gently rubbing his back. Once Aoyama had finished, Aizawa helped him to sit back down on his bed and passed him a tissue to wipe his mouth.
“Want some water?” Aoyama nodded. Aizawa reached into his bag and grabbed two bottles of water, one sparkling, and one normal. He placed the plain water bottle on Aoyama’s nightstand and handed the sparkling water to the nauseated teen.
“Slow, small sips. It’ll help settle your stomach.” Aoyama took the bottle, and seemed surprised by its coldness.
“It’s supposed to be cold. That also helps.” Aoyama nodded again and opened the bottle, and managed about a quarter of it, before he closed it again. Aizawa took the bottle from him and placed it on his bedside table.
“Lay down. You need to rest. Quirk overuse can be dangerous. You’ll be in bed for at least the next two days while you recover.” Aoyama obeyed, quietly allowing Aizawa to help him slip under his sparkly purple blankets. Aizawa then reached back into the bag and put two bottles of pills on Aoyama’s desk.
“I spoke to Recovery Girl, and she prescribed these two medications for you, so I picked them up. That one is for nausea. But I recommend sleeping for now, so you can regain some strength. Twice a day, when you wake up and go to sleep, for a week. That one is a mild stomach soother. Take it before meals for the next two weeks- it’ll help you keep food down. I’m assuming you haven’t managed to eat since yesterday at lunch? Before the quirk training?” Aoyama nodded. Aizawa then pulled out one last item from the bag and placed it next to the two pill bottles.
“Energy drink. Just to hold you over until dinner. It’s now… 2 pm. I’ll send someone up with porridge for you around 6. Eat what you can, don’t push yourself. I’ll come check on you tonight. Rest up, Aoyama. To become a hero, you need to learn to take care of yourself, before you can think about taking care of others.” Aizawa patted Aoyama’s shoulder, and made to leave, heading towards the door.
“Thank you sensei.” Aizawa stopped, and a very small smile made his way onto his face as he glanced back at the teen.
“Feel better, Aoyama-kun. I’ll be back.”
----
“Midoriya.” The green haired boy looked up, surprised to see Aizawa sensei in the dorm.
“Hai, sensei?” Aizawa held out two small containers, each warm to the touch, to him.
“Bring these to Aoyama. Along with a set of utensils and some napkins. Please wash them for me, and I’ll return for them this evening.” Midoriya nodded, and accepted the containers, though he looked a touch confused.
“Sure, sensei.” Aizawa nodded, and tucking his hands into his pockets, walked back out of the dorms, as he had schoolwork and tests to grade. Hopefully some of the other teachers would be in the office too, so he wouldn’t have to grade them alone. He didn’t want their company, no definitely not, but… it was nice to have someone to talk to through the monotony of grading.
----
When Aizawa went to check on Aoyama that evening, he was greeted by Midoriya, who assured him that Aoyama had eaten all of the food in the containers and had promptly fallen back asleep. Aizawa peered around Aoyama’s door, and was greeted by the sight of the fast asleep teen. Satisfied, Aizawa left quietly, and thanked Midoriya for his help, before he left to head home.
More containers of food were delivered via Class 1-A students for the next few days, and returned to Aizawa when he visited to check up on Aoyama’s condition. The teen stopped vomiting on the second day, and managed to keep down solid rice on the third, much to Aizawa’s relief. A visit from Recovery Girl assured Aizawa that the teen was ready to return to class, as long as he took it easy.
When Aoyama walked into the classroom, five days after Aizawa’s first visit, Aizawa did little more than acknowledge his appearance with a small “welcome back”. He didn’t expect any gratitude (he was just doing his job as a teacher after all), so a ticket to a nearby cat cafe appearing on his desk had Aizawa confused, until he saw the small note attached to the gift.
Aizawa’s tone was mildly scolding when he spoke to Aoyama, having asked him to stay behind after class. But the teen insisted, and Aizawa begrudgingly accepted the ticket, grumbling about having to leave campus to use it while hiding a tiny smile as he thanked him, much to Aoyama’s delight. In order to not waste his student’s thoughtfulness, Aizawa spent an relaxing hour at the cafe on his next day off, drinking coffee and playing with the stray cats the cafe was boarding until they were adopted.
As he came home that night with a new kitten, he just figured it was all Aoyama’s fault, for sending him there in the first place. He would definitely have to make sure his annoyance was clear to the teen, the next chance he got. Which Aizawa did, in the form of a photo handed to the confused teen, of the new kitten sleeping on Aizawa’s chest. Aizawa had to hide his smile by turning to write on the board when Aoyama’s face turned even more confused as he read the note on the back.
“Thanks a lot. Now I have a new problem child.”
