Work Text:
Giyuu springs from the ground, deflecting a demon’s claw swipe in mid-air. Sparks fly as he parries its attacks, his blade glinting blue in the dark. Without interrupting his flow, he raises his sword after a parry, and casts a tide that should have sliced the demon’s head clean—but he only manages to cut its arm, which regenerates in seconds.
Giyuu spends several more minutes skirting around the demon, waiting for an opening. They circle around the trees and bushes, shifting between the delicate movements of predator and prey like a dance of death. Giyuu never stops moving; he is a stream, an endless waltz. The demon moves fast, but it has no grace whatsoever. Having to do this with such a creature turns Giyuu’s stomach. On this lovely night, with the full moon high in the sky, its pale glow tinting the world a shade lighter and perhaps even romantic, he would rather dance with a certain someone.
He distantly wonders how Sabito is doing on his end. They’d been separated earlier in the forest; Giyuu was looking for him until he got distracted by this demon.
When he lands on the ground again, someone lands with him and joins his side. This someone dares to stand so close to him that their backs touch.
Only one person comes to mind.
Sabito pants, and his sword glints blue in the dark like his as he draws it. “Can I have this dance?”
“Please,” Giyuu replies.
Against the two of them, the demon stands no chance. Sabito leads first; he is the sun, and Giyuu is just a star chasing after him, orbiting around his brilliance. He casts great waves after the demon, ones that it can’t recover that fast from. Giyuu picks up after his attack, extending the wave until his blade finally cuts the demon’s neck.
The demon’s head falls on the ground with a thud, but it no longer has Sabito and Giyuu’s attention. As soon as Giyuu lands on his feet, he gravitates back to Sabito, who takes his hand. He smiles sheepishly as he lifts his arm to guide Giyuu into a twirl before dipping him.
“Have you seen the moon?” Sabito asks, as he holds Giyuu in his arms.
“It’s beautiful,” Giyuu breathes, his eyes landing on Sabito’s lips.
The last thing the demon sees before it crumbles away is Sabito leaning in towards Giyuu for a kiss.
