Work Text:
“I told you multiple times that it’ll rain today.” Sarawat sighs, walking up to his boyfriend, watching through the windows as the rain poured hard outside. “But you still insisted to go to the beach.”
Tine only pouted, his palms pressed to the window pane, looking sad as the rain continued to downpour, some droplets tapping and sliding down the glass.
Currently, they were in a hotel room Tine had booked. This was supposed to be their date; going to the beach and swimming until they forget about the stress of the university.
But Sarawat, who managed to watch the weather report yesterday, found out that there’d be a huge rainstorm that’d come in the area, which was already a bad sign. But Tine waved it off, assuring him it’d be fine, that sometimes the news could be fake or just a false alarm. Sarawat wanted to argue, but after seeing Tine’s determined and sparkling eyes, he couldn’t bring himself to.
Now, he sorta wishes he had because now, they’re both stuck in a hotel room with nowhere else to go. They can’t go to the beach, and they also can’t work on their assigned tasks because they left everything school-related back in their apartment. In conclusion, they literally have nothing else to do but wait for the rain to stop, and that might take a while from how hard it seems to be falling outside.
He sighs again, raising an eyebrow at Tine, who just shrinks in on himself. “Do you believe me now?”
“... yes.” Tine admits begrudgingly, still pouting. “I just thought it’d be a light drizzle!”
“What part of rainstorm did you not understand?” Sarawat asks amusedly, watching as Tine crosses his arms over his chest with a huff and started to walk towards the bedroom. Sarawat follows after him, of course, entering the room just in time to see Tine cover himself with the duvet. Sarawat shakes his head fondly. He knows Tine doesn’t like to admit it when he’s wrong– normally because he’s right all the time– and he usually just does this because he doesn’t know what to do about the situation.
He remembers, once, that Tine accidentally deleted a document that contained all of Sarawat’s research, which wasn’t really that important but still made him a bit cranky because he had to look up those stingy politicians again. Later that night, when Sarawat went down to have dinner, he remembers being engulfed in confettis, Tine standing in front of him with a small smile on his face, sheepishly holding a bowl of green curry. He opens his mouth, probably to apologize, but Sarawat has already forgiven him anyways so he decided to press a peck on Tine’s lips, watching how his cheeks flushed and how Tine cursed at him while promptly walking away.
It’s cute, how Tine still wasn’t used to Sarawat’s affections even after almost two years of dating.
He sits down beside him, tugging at the covers. “Tine, come on, it’s okay.”
“No, it’s not!” He hears Tine exclaim, still refusing to show his face.
A small smile tugged on the corner of Sarawat’s lips, finding his boyfriend’s petulant behavior really cute. He’s always so sulky, moody, and Sarawat never wastes a moment to comfort him with kisses and tickles, which helps cheer him up easily.
“Tine.” Sarawat says softly, gently poking and prodding at him from where he hid under the blankets. “It really is okay. I know how much you wanted to go to the beach, but we can always wait for tomorrow–”
He stopped short when Tine flipped the covers, revealing his distraught expression, a frown curling up on his lips. “I only wanted to go because I wanted you to have fun.”
Sarawat’s eyes widened, surprised at Tine’s words.
Tine isn’t at all a blushing mess for most of the time. Sometimes, Tine would take him by surprise by how honest he was with him sometimes– from saying that he wants to spend time with him to saying how crazy jealous he feels whenever someone would flirt with him, which, Sarawat admits, he finds pretty hot and feels a tiny bit guilty at how he likes seeing the way Tine’s jaw would click, eyes dangerously fiery, glaring daggers at anyone who would dare step in vicinity of him. His possessive behavior is a side that Sarawat very much likes, ranking among his top five.
Sometimes, Tine’s blunt words, much more blunt than Sarawat’s, throws him in surprise because Tine’s never been that vocal about what he wants– and the fact that he wants Sarawat to have fun baffles him even more.
“W-What?” Sarawat stammers out, thoroughly confused.
Tine pouts and sits up on the bed, looking down ashamedly. “I know how stressed you’ve been the past couple days because of finals coming up, and that you still have deadlines to finish, which is why I asked you to go on this date with me so you could... you know... relax.” Tine finishes awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck as he steals glances at him.
Sarawat just about short-circuits, his breath being punched out of him at Tine’s words, his heart swelling from how everything from the past few days finally made sense.
About a week ago, Sarawat would always be hunched over his desk, typing away on his laptop and reviewing his notes at the same time in the middle of the night. He’d let out soft and long yawns, his body desperately screaming at him to sleep. But he’d always push himself, struggling against his drowsiness, and work harder. Tine would always pester him and whine, saying that he couldn’t sleep without him, pulling him away from the desk and to their bed. Sarawat would try to put up a fight, tell him that he can’t sleep right now, but Tine would ask to rest with him for just five minutes so he’ll be able to sleep. Sarawat, actually thinking over the offer, just sighs in resignation and says only five minutes, seeing Tine’s face light up before he snuggles against his chest, arms wrapped around him tightly. It would take Sarawat one minute to yawn, two minutes to cuddle closer to Tine, three minutes to feel Tine’s hands rubbing soothingly up and down his back, four minutes to hear Tine’s soft there you go, and five minutes to finally fall asleep, safe and content in Tine’s arms. This would always happen whenever Sarawat would concentrate too long on his work, not letting himself take a break.
About three days ago, Sarawat remembers running his hands through his hair in frustration, hunched over his laptop on the floor, trying hard not to break the screen from how angry he is. Their professor had just emailed them and said that the deadline would be moved earlier because of the finals coming up. Sarawat was trying to write up as many words as possible, but nothing was coming to him and he only became more exasperated because everything was piling down on him and he was going mad from exhaustion and depletion. Then he feels arms wrap around his stomach, a warm chest pressed to his back, a familiar vanilla scent engulfing his nostrils. His hazy anger started to evaporate when he feels Tine’s cheek against his shoulder, asking if he was okay. Sarawat instantly started to rant, his burning irritation starting to simmer down with every word that leaves his lips and Tine’s comforting warmth. After that, Tine backs up and slowly pulls Sarawat to him, putting his head on his lap. He then started to hum a Scrubb song while gently brushing his fingers through his hair, Sarawat dozing off soon after.
Yesterday was even worse. Sarawat didn’t move at all from where he sat on the couch, laptop heating up on his lap, eyes bleary and burning from staring at the screen for too long. His back was aching, his legs were going numb from being crossed as the hours stretch by, and he just wanted to sleep. He then hears Tine’s soft footsteps towards him, taking the laptop away from his lap. Sarawat stares up at him with tired eyes as Tine places his hands on his cheeks and presses a gentle kiss on his lips. He pulls away slowly, a small smile on his face, then, he seats himself on Sarawat’s lap. Sarawat wraps his arms around his waist, nuzzling himself against the crook of Tine’s neck, his shoulders slumping from exhaustion. Tine started to ramble about Sarawat not having time for him anymore and he can always make it up to him with a date. Sarawat just listens fondly as Tine excitedly talks about wanting going to the beach tomorrow and that he’ll have everything planned out for their perfect day off. Later on that night, while Sarawat tucked Tine into bed, he was walking over to the TV to turn it off but froze when he heard the newscaster announce heavy rainfall for the next day.
So, all of that, all of those sweet gestures was just Tine’s way of wanting Sarawat to relax?
All his actions and whining was just him trying to disguise it as his need for attention, when in reality Tine was the one making him want to indulge in those little moments; making him take a break from all his work and cuddle with him when everything became too much. He made it seem like Sarawat was doing all those stuff for him because he knows he won’t listen to him if he had told him to take a break.
Sarawat softens, gazing at Tine tenderly, his cheeks warming at the realization. “You...”
Tine nodded, looking guilty as he did, and continues to pout.
Sarawat then gets under the duvet, pushing himself against Tine. His boyfriend looks at him in confusion, tensing as he cautiously scooted away. “What are you doing?”
Sarawat just opens his arms wide, a small grin on his face. “Cuddle me.”
Tine’s brows rose, mouth slacking in surprise, eyes wide to him in shock.
Sarawat grins wider, his heart racing in his chest, his stomach doing weird flips as he sits closer to him. “You said you wanted me to relax, right?” Sarawat asks, and Tine nods, looking at him suspiciously. “Well, then take responsibility. Cuddle me so I can relax.”
It took a few more seconds for Tine to get it, but when he did, he started to laugh.
Sarawat gazes at him fondly, his heart beating fast with the absolute love he feels for him. He knows how much Tine cares for him, worries for him, and gives him comfort whenever he doesn’t take care of himself. This side of Tine will always be his top favorite, because it reminds Sarawat that he isn’t alone in this relationship– that Tine loves and looks after him like Sarawat does with him. The knowledge that Tine is with him right now when he could’ve been with anyone else in the world makes his love for him more powerful than everything else.
Tine’s laughter started to die down, a bright smile adorning his features. “Okay, fine.”
Sarawat grinned once more as Tine hugs him, his body warming him up immediately in the air-conditioned room. Sarawat cuddles himself under Tine’s chin, pressing sloppy kisses on his neck and making Tine giggle.
“Wat, stop!” Tine laughs, but doing no move to stop or push him away. In fact, he even moved closer to him, tangling their legs together, making Sarawat’s heart skip a beat at the domesticity of it all.
“I love you so much.” Sarawat kisses the words on his neck, blowing raspberries which caused Tine to giggle even louder.
“Wat!”
The day may not be perfect, their plans to have a date on the beach may have failed, but Sarawat finds out that he’s contented with doing whatever he does, as long as it’s with Tine. Because with Tine, nothing else matters. It doesn’t matter that he has a couple of projects to finish when they go back home, or that his finals were coming up, or that he still had to write up some reports, because while being in Tine’s arms, he knows there’s nowhere else he’d rather be.
“I think the rain stopped.” Sarawat whispers into his skin, comfortably snuggling against the warm chest of his boyfriend. “Do you want to go to the beach now?”
Tine hums, shaking his head slightly, pressing a kiss on top of Sarawat’s head, a swell of love surging in Sarawat’s heart as he did. “I think I’d rather be here instead.”
Sarawat grinned and closed his eyes, pulling Tine’s body closer to his, letting himself drift to sweet slumber with the scent of Tine helping him.
As long as he gets to cuddle with Tine like this every day, he doesn’t mind pushing all his plans away to the back of his mind and worry about them another time.
There’s always a tomorrow, but there’s only one Tine.
