Work Text:
Toshinori’s eyes, as they so often were, were drawn to the wall of photographs in Inko’s living room. Whilst he himself had earned several editions to the montage since he had moved into the Midoriya household, the overwhelming majority were of Izuku.
Izuku, a new-born, large green eyes staring up at his exhausted mother.
Izuku, a toddler in dungarees playing with coloured wooden building blocks, hair already unruly curls.
Izuku, still a beaming toddler, sitting next to a slightly grumpy looking blond boy who held his hand.
Izuku in his first school uniform.
Dozens of images spanning the young man’s life, the most recent being a picture with Toshinori himself. The teen in his slightly torn hero uniform, a scrape on his cheek but a smile still on his face as he rested an arm around the older man’s waist, his free hand offering a peace sign to the camera.
It was quiet moments like this that made the retired hero contemplate the future. He had always worried about Izuku since he passed One for All to the boy.
Always worried if he had made the right decision.
Always worried if the boy could handle it.
Time and time again Izuku proved that he could. That he had made the right decision.
A happy squeal came from the front door, breaking him from his reverie. Peering through the window he saw his wife eagerly waving down the street. Toshinori went to join her at the gate, watching his stepson come down the street, holding his boyfriend’s hand, other hand waving just as enthusiastically back at his mother.
When he reached the gate, Izuku wrapped his arms round his mother, lifting and spinning her. Toshinori smiled at the happy noise his wife emitted and the way she pulled Shoto into a hug as soon as her son released her.
It was in quiet moments like this that made the retired hero contemplate the future.
And from where he stood, beaming emerald eyes of the young hero catching his… the future looked good.
