Chapter Text

They say soulmates only exist in fairy tales or fictional storys. That was the same thing they said for quirks, and now 80% of the population has these strange powers. And recently, people have been noticing writing on their wrists from their supposed“soulmate”. When two soulmates would meet, the next day writing would appear on the bottom of their wrist. A single word, something the two had in common. The concept had always fascinated Midoriya’s mind. His mother had always told him storys of soulmates before he fell asleep, he hoped he would have one. There was no way he could be quirkless AND have no soulmate, right? Thats what his mother told him. And he believed her.

Whenever they learned about soulmates in middle school, (soulmates had finally become a thing scientists had enough information on to consider normal) Midoriya always had his hand up first to answer any question the teacher asked, he didnt always get called on, but when he did he was able to answer with no doubt in his voice. And anytime he did almost the entirety of his class would give him surprised looks as he explained twice as much as what the teacher had asked. Soulmates were interesting sure, but not many people bothered to actually learn as much as Midoriya did. Bakugou was the only one who seemed actually annoyed by it though. Everything Midoriya did seemed to annoy Bakugou. Midoriya tried to ignore his harsh insults about it and carried on with his day.

The day Midoriya met All Might was a mixture of the best day and the scariest day of his life. All Mights words were crushing, and it didnt help that because of him the sludge monster that attacked him had escaped. Between becoming All Mights successor and Kacchan getting attacked by the same monster that attacked Midoriya, he was exhausted by the time he got home. He felt like he could sleep for 3 days straight, but he couldn’t, he was too excited to begin training. Thoughts of becoming a pro hero danced in his mind, dazing him into sleep. The next day when he woke up he could barely contain his excitement when he saw All Might on the beach. The training was hard, but Midoriya felt his body adjusting to the conditions more everyday. As he felt himself growing stronger, he had a growing worry about the entrance exam. What if he didn’t get in? What then? All Might was counting on him. He couldn’t fail! That was his biggest motivation to keep going.

And then it was finally time. The entrance exam, the thing he had been half dreading for about 10 months. He got no points. Zero. Zilch. He didn’t know what to do. The only thing probably worth mentioning was saving that girl, Ochako Uraraka. Midoriya didn’t regret that part. He only regretted the whole “not getting points” part. He hoped he at least did well on he written test.

“Izuku!” He herd his mothers voice. He turned from his spot on the couch to see his mother waving a white envelope in the air with a red wax seal with the letters UA on them. Midoriya was on his feet almost immediately. And rushed into his room to read the letter.

Todoroki prepared himself for his first day at UA academy. A new chapter of his life. Finally, some time away from his father and the aching training he had to endure. He had wanted to get in through the entrance exam but his father had insisted on recommendations. He huffed, and kept walking. Looking at his surroundings he saw many different people. He wondered who was in his class, Todoroki wasn’t sure if he wanted to make friends. His father would just brush them off as obstacles. Todoroki let his eyes wander for few seconds before they stopped on a boy, slightly shorter than he was, with curly green hair. He could just barely see freckles and pretty green eyes as he turned to occasionally talk to a girl with short brown hair next to him. Todoroki looked away as he made it to the entrance of the school.

Midoriya stopped in-front of his classroom door, looking up at the blue tag sticking out of the door marked 1-A. He took a deep breath and took his first step into a new school year and subsequently, new people. What he was greeted with was.. interesting. There was a blue haired boy yelling and waving his arms in a robotic way at a boy he recognized almost immediately. Bakugou, or as Midoriya had began calling him as a kid, Kacchan. Midoriya walked to a seat in the back, avoiding the two and sat down.Uraraka followed and took the seat in front of him. Midoriya let his eyes wander around the room, taking in his surroundings. He took note of a few new students walking into the classroom. One person that caught his eye was a boy with half red, half white hair. He had a nasty scar on his left side, Midoriya winced slightly looking at it. The boy walked over to him and asked if the seat next to him was taken. “N-not at all!” He said, startled he even talked to him. “Go ahead.” He said, and the boy sat down. Midoriya wondered why he decided to sit next to him. There were many other seats he could have sat at but he chose next to Midoriya . He didnt know wether to feel happy or confused. He did feel something. But he didnt know what.

(The first day went like it did in the anime so im not re-writing all that sorry ;-;)

As Midoriya left the school and began his walk home, his thoughts wandered back to the boy who sat next to him. What was his name again? Todoroki Shouto, right? Midoriya liked that name. He looked up at the sky, it was already turning a slightly darker shade of orange. He sighed. He needed to get a better grip on his quirk. He shattered his finger during training earlier that day. ‘That was embarrassing..’ he thought. When he finally got home it was almost dark out. His mother was still preparing dinner, so he set his bag in his room, greeting her as he walked by. Midoriya found his thoughts wandering to todoroki again. There was something strange about him. He was...different. Maybe in a good way. Midoriya was so trapped in his thoughts he didn’t really realize he had already finished his dinner and was laying in bed. His eyes slowly fluttering shut,he thought about the boy for the last time that day.

When morning came Midoriya sat up to notice the soft pitter patter of rain on the roof. He always felt happier when it rained. But today felt different. He was in an unusually good mood. If it rained he was in a good mood, but today he was in a great mood. Izuku didn’t mind or give it much thought. He sat up and changed into his uniform. It was only then that he notice some kind of marking on his wrist while brushing his teeth. Realizing what was happening Izuku eagerly looked down to see what the word was. Was this why he was in such a good mood?
“Destiny”
Midoriya read the word over and over again. Before finally saying the word outloud.
“Destiny..?”
That word must be something his soulmate and Midoriya had in common.
A destiny.
