Work Text:
Yako’s day always starts the same, with her curled up in Misaki’s lap as he silently pats her and grades papers. It’s a comfort that she had missed terribly.
Even with the stupid gloomy spider face making fun of her for acting soft as he calls it. She took a rather large bite out of him for that comment. After that he keeps his comments to himself but still chuckles at her.
Just as she is getting comfortable she hears the gloomy spider face start talking to her Misaki, making her glare at him in annoyance. He keeps talking to him but calls him Nagisa-sensei even though that’s not his name.
Yako tries to ignore their conversation as best she can until Tsuchigomori says something about a date drawing her full attention. Her eyes locking with the gloomy spider face noticing that he is smirking, the bastard.
Not wanting to stick around and hear about it Yako hopped off Misaki’s lap storming out heading to the old school building. Maybe those pink morons have brought back something good today.
At first Yako couldn’t stand the Mokke, those mischievous pink rabbit’s would always just show up in her boundary and take whatever it is that they want. No matter how many times she would chase them off or even bite them they would come back.
Now without her boundary she is free to chase them all day without a worry. Solely because of the new rumor that Yashiro Nene started for her is driving her crazy.
The amount of teenagers making-out on her stairs is starting to become ridiculous.
Normally she would just take her anger out on her but everytime that she tries Honorable No.7 threatens to make her into udon. So she has to limit the amount of times she bites his assistant.
Because of that she has to take her anger out of someone else she picks the Mokke since there are so many of them it makes the chase even better. After the first month of chasing them they came to an agreement that as long as they follow her orders she will stop eating them.
Since then she tasks the Mokke with stealing pretty things.
They had been doing a great job ever since the accident that happened. For some reason they thought it was smart to steal a human because everyone said that she was the prettiest in the school.
It was fine at first all she had to do was send her back on her way until No.1 burst through the door looking ready to kill them for touching her. After explaining it was a misunderstanding and receiving a bump on the head he left with her under his arm.
With that lesson learned Yako and the Mokke continued on in their partnership with them knowing to never touch No.1’s human again.
Though today they haven’t brought back anything of value and Yako was pissed off from the dumb spider earlier so she is more than likely going to take her anger out on the Mokke.
Almost as if they could sense her thoughts they started to run away from her in fear knowing what will happen if she catches them. Now fueled by fear, the Mokke race through the old school building trying their best to escape her fangs when a blonde boy appears in front of them.
Minamoto Kou is on his way to talk with Nene and Hanako when a wave of Mokke jump at him, crying for him to save them. Just as he is about to ask what he needs to save them from they hide behind him.
Turning around he sees Yako running toward him looking rather mad but he hadn’t seen her in days so she shouldn’t be mad at him. When she gets closer she launches toward him and clamps down on his head.
Flailing about trying to get the angry fox off of him he pleads for the Mokke to help him but notice that they all had run away leaving him to deal with this on his own.
In between biting Kou, Yako is yelling at him calling him all sorts of names.
When he manages to get her off he holds her at arms length glaring at Yako waiting for her to explain herself. She merely pouts stating she did nothing wrong then once again bites him and walks off.
Picking on the small exorcist wasn’t as much fun as she was hoping, but she couldn’t go and mess with Yashiro. She had bitten her earlier in the week so if she does it again No.7 will definitely punish her.
Instead she makes her way outside toward the garden to lay in the sun and maybe mess with that stupid tree some.
Yet again after messing with the stupid tree she still doesn’t feel any better. Yako was still angry for some reason and she didn’t know why.
Yako is now just wandering aimlessly around the school trying her best to stay away from the teachers offices and Misaki. She couldn’t figure out why she was still angry but it reminded her of when Misaki first left her.
A vast endless rage filled her when Misaki stopped coming around. At first she understood that he was busy with other students so she understood that he couldn’t be there with her everyday.
Even though she was lonely when he wasn’t there with her.
Yako remembers waiting patiently each and everyday for him, getting excited every time a human came close to her in hopes that it was him. Being disappointed each and every time that it wasn’t.
The days slowly turned into months, months painfully turned into years until one day she knew deep in her heart that he wasn’t coming back for her.
As time passed she slowly started to forget things about Misaki, like his voice or face or the warmth of his hand as he patted her head.
She has no idea why her mind is wondering to him today, maybe it’s because of what that stupid gloomy spider said to her Misaki earlier. Something about a date he went on with a human girl he was wondering how it went.
Stopping in her tracks Yako finally realizes why she is so upset, she is afraid to lose Misaki again. Yako is bound to the school so she is unable to leave unlike Tsuchigomori who can come and go as he pleases.
One day Misaki will leave and never come back again.
Yako will be left behind yet again with only the memory of Misaki to keep her company. That fear has silent tears streaking down her face and a gut wrenching sob escape from her lips.
That's exactly how Misaki Nagisa finds her, curled into a ball in a corner with silent tears streaming down her face. He was concerned for his little cat, she has been missing all day and now he finds her sad in a corner.
In one fluid motion he scoops her up into his arms gently petting her head telling her how much she worried him. Carrying her back to the teachers lounge without setting her down he fills a saucer of milk for her hoping that would cheer her up.
As Misaki tries to coax her to drink she just looks up at him to admire his smile and how it lights up his entire face, his smile puts the sun to shame.
Even if our time together is short Yako knows that she will cherish each and every moment with him she can. Because she knows that he will always find a way back to her in one way or another.
With the thought in mind she moves to drink from the dish, but the moment he stops petting her she fakes meow causing him to chuckle but resumes petting her gently.
Yes this is the perfect way to end the day, spending it with her Misaki.
Once she finishes her dish of milk she climbs back onto his lap as he is grading papers, his hand idly scratching her chin. The door slides open revealing Tsuchigomori, a mischievous smirk forming once he notices Yako with Misaki.
Though before he can even utter a single word a tidal wave of Mokke appears and washes him away. A muted scream can be heard from the corridor causing Misaki to glance up and question what it is.
Yako mews softly pulling his attention back to her and his papers. Glancing down at her he merely shrugs stating it sounded like Tsuchigomori but there was no way it was him.
The two stay like that all the way until the sky turns pink and orange with the sun dropping into the horizon. As he heads to leave Yako fellows next to him as she always does making sure he leaves the campus safely.
When he turns to say his goodbye she knows even if it's the last time she sees him it is okay. The moments that she has gotten to have with him now and all those years ago will always be with her.
Even if somethings about him fade from her memory she will never truly forget all of the time they have had with one another.
Once his silhouette fades from her view she hops off of the gates to go and free the gloomy spider. Hopefully he has learned his lesson about teasing her, if not the Mokke will gladly do it again to ensure that she doesn’t eat them.
