“Say, Yashiro.” Hanako began, in this one sunny morning in the girl’s bathroom. He was busy playing another round of hanafuda with the Mokke, who were, once again, this close to winning against him.
“What is it, Hanako-kun?” Nene answered back, not bothering to look up at him. She was currently wiping the mirrors, taking care to make them as shiny and clear as they can be.
The Mokke cheered when they won the game as Hanako sighed at his loss, handing them over some candy as their prize. He got up from his seat and floated next to his busy assistant.
He held up a hand to her. “When you look at it this way, girl’s hands are really small, huh?”
Nene pouted at that, a glare across her face. “They’re not that small! What brought this up all of a sudden?”
“Well, it’s just an observation. They’re really small, I don’t even know how girls do things with hands like that.” That smirk on his face increased as Nene’s glare intensified.
“Frowning won’t make you look any prettier, you know.” Hanako clicked his tongue at her, quite enjoying her reaction. “Tell you what. Why don’t you give me your hand, and you’ll see what I’m talking about.”
“Fine! I’ll prove you wrong!” Without thinking, Nene held out her own hand, and by the time her palm came in contact with his, he had slipped his fingers between her own, locking them into place.
That’s when Nene realized it.
Her face began to blossom into red.
“See? Small.” The shit-eating grin on his face never seemed to leave, as he examined their intertwined hands together. His hand was rather large than her delicate, small one. His fingers cradled her hand with care, as if she was some kind of porcelain doll prone to breaking.
In other words, it thrilled him to find out just how perfectly her hand fit with his own, like it had always belonged there from the very start.
When he let go, the poor girl was in a daze, cheeks all red. He chuckled, tipping his hat down to avoid her look and floated away, singing a happy tune.
He heard her splutter and shout out his name with embarrassment, and he could just smile.
Today was just great.
