    When the Commission gave him this mission, his entire life crumbled away from him. If anyone found out about this, the career he’d spent his life building would shatter, and he wouldn’t be allowed to defend himself for the sake of secrecy. The entire mission made him sick to his stomach.

    And what had he done?

    He’d nodded and agreed like the good little hero he was.

    And maybe it wasn't the mission that made him sick, but they way the Commission - those who had raised him - showed no care for his career goals, values, or desire to see age 25 without a scandal. Maybe Hawks had always been a little bit sick of the bird cage they held him in.
