Work Text:
Today is the day.
Today, Nene Yashiro is going to succeed in getting her two friends Kou and Mitsuba together. After about a week’s worth of planning to get this into motion tonight she will get the two boys together.
At least, she is hoping that her plan is going to work.
Nene was shocked that Tsukasa actually let her go first with her plan solely for the fact that she knows Tsukasa and his need to take control of things. Just as he was when Nene and Amane were first starting to talk.
Getting the final text from the karaoke bar confirming her reservation she sends a text of her own to the group letting them know everything was still ago.
Originally the plan was only going to be Nene, Tsukasa, Amane, Mitsuba, and Kou but after hearing about it Aoi, Lemon, and Akane all decided to tag along. Akane was tagging along solely to keep an eye on Aoi, making sure no man gets too close.
Tsukasa was all about letting more people join, which makes Nene slightly nervous about what else he might be planning.
Regardless of Tsukasa plotting something extra, Nene was incredibly excited about tonight, and not just trying to get Kou and Mitsuba together, but being with her friends for a fun night out. As she waited for Amane and Tsukasa to come pick her up she was remembering the last time they all were out together and laughed.
The last time they all had been out drinking together wasn’t entirely a disaster but the whole group had decided to never talk about it again. Plus they are now all banned from the bar, for various reasons.
This is the main reason why Sakura, Natushiko, Mei, and Teru all refused to join them this time.
Letting out a few giggles at the memories just as the twins pull up in front of her house, waving as she approaches. The drive to the karaoke bar is calm with light conversation flowing, all of them excited to see what the night has to offer.
Nene and Tsukasa haven’t let anyone else into their plans for Mitsuba and Kou so they couldn’t really talk about it. Both just hoping that whatever attempts they make will work out in the end.
Tsukasa on the other hand was not going to be as subtle as Nene was going to be, but he would have to bid his time until he could act on it.
Once Nene and the twins arrive they check in and make their way to their room, Nene shoots a text to the rest of the group letting them know the room number. As Nene and Amane get comfortable Tsukasa is already ordering food and drinks for everyone, already trying to get them drunk after only mere seconds.
Sharing a glance Amane and Nene are both fearing what will happen once the others arrive.
As the food and drinks arrive in their room Kou, Mitsuba, Aoi, and Akane all arrive cheering at the sight of their friends and of course the food and drinks.
Just as Tsukasa is trying to get his older brother to join him in a duet, Lemon strolls through the door, muttering an apology about being late. Tsukasa, not missing a chance, states to make up for it he has to sing with him or take a shot.
Thinking about his options, Lemon nods and first takes a shot then joins Tsukasa up front to sing whatever disaster of a song the younger twin had picked out.
Only an hour and a half into the night the group is all incredibly drunk, or in Tsukasa’s case slightly buzzed. This is the moment Tsukasa had been waiting for, Mitsuba had the tablet on his lap to pick a song but the pink haired boy was not paying attention.
So Tsukasa pounced at the chance, making it a duet for Mitsuba and Kou and picked the best song he could think of for them.
After a semi-decent song from a very drunk Akane, that Lemon most definitely recorded, it was now Mitsuba and Kou’s turn. Kou was at first confused when the screen said both of them but he shrugs it off and moves to join Mitsuba, grabbing the microphone he was offered.
Tsukasa smirked to himself knowing that the two were drunk enough to not ask questions about singing together or what the song was, mostly because he made sure their glasses were never empty.
Both Mitsuba and Kou look to see what song it was and decide who was going to sing what parts, Mitsuba being the better singer agrees to take the lead. As the beat of Seventeen Forever by Metro Station starts off everyone cheers lightly for them, excited to hear how it will go.
Mitsuba takes up the microphone first, foot tapping to the beat before taking a deep breath and jumping in. “ You are young and so am I”. Kou shifts as the lyrics scroll across the screen, a blush creeping up his cheeks as they begin to filter into his fuzzy mind.
Mitsuba reaches out and pokes him in the side as the chorus begins and they both sing together, “We’re one mistake from being together.” Their eyes jumped to each other before sliding away; a flush, not from the heat or alcohol, burning over cheekbones.
From the couch across the room, Tsukasa and Nene exchanged a knowing glance and gently, quietly, tapped their glasses together in victory.
Throughout the rest of the song both Mitsuba and Kou would either glance at each and quickly turn away, or they would steal glances at the other when they were not paying attention. Both getting into the song and enjoying themselves, when the last line rolls onto the screen being a shared line for them they both can’t help but turn to one another.
Singing the last line, “And we can get away with this tonight.” Neither caring for the remainder of the song, until their friends begin clapping at how well they did.
Not realizing that they had gotten closer to the other they spring apart, blushing furiously, heading to the couches after handing off the microphones to Amane and Tsukasa.
After Amane and Tsukasa’s riveting cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, both taking bows as the rest of the group either laugh or clap, it was time for the next duet from Nene and Aoi singing Bad Blood by Taylor Swift.
Their song choice surprises and shocks the group, but with both being great singers they were all looking forward to it. Akane attempts to record the girls but is far too drunk to hold the phone steady, forcing Lemon to take over but making Akane promise to sing with him next.
Akane, not caring about being forced to sing, agrees so he can focus on his Aoi-chan singing. Once the two girls had finished their song Akane was on his feet clapping and hooting at a job well done, Amane also cheering his girlfriend on but not nearly as frantically as Akane.
It was now Lemon and Akanes turn to sing a fan favorite, Wanna Be by The Spice Girls, but not before Lemon made sure Tsukasa, with his steady hands, was recording the whole thing.
Tsukasa was curious if the video was just for laughs or for future blackmail, but didn’t care to ask, so he set out to make sure the video is perfect for either use.
Akane, being the light-weight that he is, makes almost every single person in the room hunched over holding their stomachs laughing as he basically pushes Lemon out of the way to take over the song. Lemon ends up face first on the floor gripping his sides from the pain of laughing so hard at Akane’s terrible singing but maxim effort to do the song justice.
For almost ten full minutes not a single person, aside from Akane who is extremely drunk and confused at their reactions, could stop laughing with tears streaking down their faces.
Finally once Nene and Tsukasa have composed themselves enough they move toward the front picking up the microphones they share a knowing look once Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson starts to play. The duo having so much fun dancing and singing together, knowing that this song embodied the entire night for them, they end the song back-to-back.
After an hour filled with drinking, singing, laughter, and food Mitsuba and Kou head toward the front getting ready for another duet, but this time it was with a song neither were expecting.
Nene and Tsukasa share a confused look, silently questioning which of them had picked this song. Amane leaned over to clarify that he was the one to pick this song, also stating he had figured out their plan after Kou and Mitsuba’s first duet.
To say that Nene and Tsukasa were shocked and impressed would be an understatement after Perfect by Ed Sheeran begins to play over the speakers.
Kou, drunk enough to not care if he was good or not, takes the lead for this song singing “I found a love for me darling, just dive right in and follow my lead.” Extending his hand out for Mitsuba to take hold of, the two were slowly dancing against each other.
Both far too drunk to care how cheesy the song is, or that neither will break eye contact with the other, both merely enjoying being close. Mitsuba’s heart rate increases as he sings, “I see my future in your eyes.” literally getting lost in Kou’s sky blue eyes.
A tenderness taking over Kou’s features, as he sways the two of them gently to the rhythm of the song. As the final chorus plays Kou makes sure that he is the one singing dipping Mitsuba at the final four lines, “Now I know I have met an angel in person and he looks perfect no, I don’t deserve this you look perfect tonight.”
With Mitsuba still in Kou’s arms the two of them are just a breath away both not waiting to be the first to move away. Just as they inch closer together a loud clap reverberates through the room forcing everyone's attention to the newcomer at the door.
Kou in shock releases Mitsuba, causing the boy to land on his back on the floor cursing, as he shouts his brother's name in utter confusion at his sudden appearance.
Teru, casually leaning against the door frame, states it was getting late and wanted to make sure Kou had gotten home safely. As nice of a gesture as it was it still infuriated Tsukasa to see Teru’s smug expression, knowing that the elder Minamoto had purposely ruined the moment.
It took both Nene and Amane setting their hands on his shoulders to make sure Tsukasa didn’t fling himself at Teru in rage and annoyance.
Kou, finally realizing he had dropped Mitsuba onto the floor rather rudely, extends a hand to help him stand on his feet again. Making sure Mitsuba was okay and muttering an apology about dropping him, Kou says goodnight to everyone making his way toward his older brother.
Thanking everyone for a great night, leaving cash to cover some of the cost, Kou steals a peek at Mitsuba before he leaves and regrets it almost instantly. For Mitsuba seemed furious at him, his eyes filled with a fire and a frown taking the place of his grin.
With a shiver of remorse and a tense half smile he says a final goodbye and follows Teru out the door.
It wasn’t long after Kou and Teru had left that Mitsuba said he should head home too, waving off Amane’s offer for a ride saying he will just call a cab. At that they all mutually agree it was time to call it a night, hugs were given and goodbyes shared, the twins and Nene hanging back making sure that everyone left safely.
Once Aoi, Lemon, and Akane were in their cab, Akane drunkenly snuggled up to Lemon thinking it was Aoi, Nene turned to Tsukasa to realize he was still upset about what had happened.
Tsukasa whispered under his breath that he was going to make Teru pay worried and frightened Nene, until Amane ruffled his younger brother's hair stating they will have more chances to get them together.
After they had settled into Amane’s car Nene overhears Tsukasa whisper, “I will just have to make sure that he doesn’t interrupt our next plans.” as the younger twin pouts into the window.
Amane reaches over to hold Nene’s hand to comfort her and reassure her that his brother will be fine, and that he won’t actually kill Teru.
Well at least Amane will attempt to make sure Tsukasa doesn’t murder Teru.
With Nene’s plan being a failure she now wonders what Tsukasa has in store for Mitsuba and Kou, hoping that this next plan will end better.
