Work Text:

“I need you to stop this bullshit, Star.”

“Ora.”

Somehow, Jotaro gets that the Stand said “no”. Maybe it's the way Star Platinum crosses his arms and glares back at his user. Yeah, that's probably it.

Jotaro has had his Stand for an entire year now, and not once has Star been this difficult. It is no news that Star has sentience, and acts quite differently from his user—a giant purple puppy , Noriaki calls him—, but it's the first time he refuses to listen to Jotaro so adamantly.

Jotaro glares at his Stand with more heat.

The entire point of hiding his feelings from Kakyoin is so Jotaro can sort them out in peace before actually doing something about them. But Star Platinum doesn’t seem to get on with the program. There is only so many times the Stand can cuddle with the redhead, help him carry things, protect him from things he’s more than capable of protecting himself from, gently caress his hair when he sleeps during sleepovers and get things the boy needs without hesitation before Kakyoin catches on what’s happening.

Doesn’t help that Kakyoin Noriaki is one smart bastard.

It’s not that Jotaro will hide those feelings for all eternity, or that he doesn’t believe he has a chance. He’s not particularly afraid of Kakyoin’s reaction, knowing the boy as he does. He’s worrying about his own actions. Jotaro has never been in a relationship in his eighteen years of life, has never wanted one and surely has never fallen in love.

Love, not an infatuation or a strong liking, love.

It may sound cheesy, but it’s the truth. Kujo Jotaro is in love. When he closes his eyes, he sees red hair dancing in the breeze. The smell of cherries always brings a smile to his face. Lavender is now his favorite color. The sight of green clothing makes his heart jump. Very few things he craves more than hugging a thin waist and kissing soft lips, or maybe he truly craves nothing else.

If you ask, he won’t know how to answer when he started feeling this way. For an entire year, Kakyoin has been just a friend. His best and closest friend, the one Jotaro offered his purest self and was given Kakyoin’s in exchange. Objectively, Jotaro knew Kakyoin is a catch. Smart, polite, dependable, loyal, with a pinch of wildness and a bucket of bastard, Kakyoin is the type of guy no one would hesitate introducing to their mother. He’s also very handsome, with his more effeminate appearance, vibrant red hair and lavender eyes—with a speckle of hazel near the pupils—making him look exhotic, almost like an ethereal being from a fairytale.

Jotaro had known those things since the beginning, back in the trip to Egypt. Then why did he suddenly get hit with the realization that he is very much in love with his best friend and most definitely has been like that for some time now?

Nothing different had happened to trigger it, they were watching a movie in one of their sleepovers, and they were practically snuggling because Kakyoin can be very touchy with people he’s comfortable with and Jotaro relishes in the knowledge he’s one of the very few in that category. Then the redhead fell asleep, as usual since one of his character traits is “perpetually tired”—his words—, head on Jotaro’s shoulder, legs thrown on Jotaro’s lap, hands holding one of Jotaro’s hands—he has the custom of playing with Jotaro’s fingers absentmindedly—, breath softly caressing Jotaro’s skin.

Then Jotaro brought him closer with the arm he had thrown around Kakyoin’s shoulders, and suddenly something in his mind screamed at him to never, ever let that boy go, otherwise his life would lose all vibrancy it had.

And now Jotaro just wants to hug Kakyoin close every time they’re in the same space.

And that is weird to him because there are millions of ways for him to screw this over, all and each stabbing his heart every time he allows himself to think about it.

Jotaro is in love, absolutely smitten, but he doesn’t know if he’s ready for it.

“Ora!”

The boy’s attention snaps back to his Stand as a big smile appears in Star’s face. The Stand waves excitedly, and his user immediately knows who’s approaching.

“Hello, Star!”

Kakyoin’s voice comes a bit breathless thanks to the massive purple being that tackles him in a hug. Jotaro feels the echoes of his warmth, passed to him through Star, and his whole body feels on fire with the want to bring the boy to him and pepper his face with pecks and never let him go.

“Hello, JoJo. Sorry for being late, the teacher wanted to talk.”

“‘S fine.”

The shorter boy sits down near JoJo, lunchbox in hands. They’ve been eating at the rooftop ever since their return, everyone in the school knows it is their spot and none want to go against the top student and the delinquent, so the duo let themselves relax. Star Platinum is still on his quest to have Kakyoin’s attention, though, resting his behemoth of a body on the ground and hiding his face in Kakyoin’s stomach, arms hugging his waist.

“You good, Star?”

“Ora!” The muffled response of his Stand makes Jotaro want to be swallowed by Earth even more. He’s so flustered, he can’t even bring himself to will Star away.

Kakyoin just smiles at him, that soft smile he only shows when they’re alone. Jotaro feels something snaking its way inside his coat and around his torso, squeezing him gently. Hierophant Green returning the hug for his user. Jotaro allows his lips to curl slightly in a smile, hiding under his hat with a mumbled “good grief”.

Dammit, he’s stupidly in love with his best friend.

Ready or not, it’d be foolish to let this boy go.
