Work Text:
Tokoyami had approached him at the end of the day.
He looked anxious, and after the brief explanation that Aizawa was given, he kind of understood why.
“Explain this to me one more time?” Aizawa asked.
“My parents were wondering if I could stay in the dorm over the break,” Tokoyami explained and Aizawa pinched his brow.
“Why?”
“Dark Shadow-”
“Is hard to control. Haven’t your parents figured out some sort of system?”
“No I uh… I usually leave lights on, but my parents don’t want me too.”
“I see. There will be no chaperones here, at U.A during the break. We’re shifting into minimal security, so that more people can go home to their partners and families. I’ll see what I can do, give me a few hours,” Aizawa said and Tokoyami nodded slowly.
“Okay,” he said and Aizawa stood, moving away from Tokoyami and out the door.
He had a vague idea of what he needed to do, but he needed to get Nezu’s permission… and Tokoyamis’ parent’s permission.
And Yamada’s permission, but Yamada would probably say yes.
When he reached Nezu’s office, he slipped in quietly.
“I assume you have a question to ask me?” Nezu asked, crossing his hands in front of them.
“Can I take in Tokoyami for the break?”
“Yes! I assume you have another question?”
“Can I have Tokoyamis’ parent’s numbers?” Aizawa asked and Nezu slipped him the piece of paper.
“Anything else?” he asked.
“How the hell do you know what I need every time?”
“Ah. That’s for me to know and for Midoriya and I to find out.”
“Oh God. You’re training him? I- You know what? I don’t even want to know. Have fun. Don’t corrupt him too quickly, please,” Aizawa said, sighing before he left.
At least he had the contact information now.
“Hello?”
“Mrs. Tokoyami? This is Tokoyami’s homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shouta,” Aizawa said into the phone.
“I see. Is this about our request?”
“Yes. I understand the need to have Tokoyami stay in the dorms, but is there really no other way to-”
“Mr. Aizawa. We’re working as hard as we can to upgrade the electrical system in our home, but it’s taking much longer than we expected. All of our electricity has been turned off for the last week, and we can’t take the proper precautions in a hotel room. Please. Just this break, and then he can come stay with us again, but-”
“I understand. I need your permission on something then,” Aizawa said.
“What is it?” she asked curiously.
“I would like Tokoyami to come stay with my family and I over the break.”
“I see. Would you care to explain why?”
“Absolutely. Two of my sons and I are able to negate Dark Shadow. We’re not really using enough security for Tokoyami to stay at the dorms,” Aizawa explained.
“Alright then. You have my permission. I trust you. Just keep him safe,” she said, before hanging up.
One last call to make.
“Yamada, how would you feel about another part time child?” Aizawa started out.
Silence on the other side.
“Yamada?”
“Sure! Who is it? Do I need the air mattress or the couch? Whose room are they going to be staying in?” Yamada asked.
“Air mattress. Either Katsuki or Shouto. It’s Tokoyami,” he explained and Yamada made a little ‘hmm’ sound.
“Okay! I’ll get it set up, and I’ll start dinner,” Yamada said, and Aizawa…
Aizawa honestly couldn’t be happier with his husband.
His husband who was always so accepting and lovely and willing to let children into their home.
One last person to ask.
“Tokoyami? I have a question,” Aizawa said, and Tokoyami looked up.
“Would you feel comfortable enough staying with my family over the break?”
He was quiet.
“Sure. As long as it’s no bother to you… or to them?” he said.
“It’s not. I have a couple more things that I need to do before I leave, but then we can drive there,” Aizawa said, and Tokoyami nodded, calmly sitting on the little sofa in the staff lounge.
“Shouta! You would not believe the amount of assholes and dickheads I’ve already had to deal with today!” Midnight yelled, barging into the staff lounge.
“Nemuri. We have a guest,” Aizawa said, far too amused.
Tokoyami was staring straight ahead, pretending like he hadn’t heard Midnight shouting at the top of her lungs.
“Oh shit. I mean fuck. I mean crap!” she stammered out, and Aizawa let out a little huff of laughter.
“Keep digging that hole for yourself Nemuri,” he said and she rolled her eyes.
“I’m… just going to go now,” Nemuri said, leaving quickly.
“Ready to head to the house?” Aizawa asked, and Tokoyami nodded.
The car ride was mostly silent.
Until Aizawa started to ramble a bit.
“Todoroki, Bakugou, Shinsou, and Eri live in my apartment, along with my husband, Present Mic, so don’t be too surprised when you see them. We don’t have another spare room, Todoroki took the last one, so you’ll probably have an air mattress in either Bakugou’s or Todoroki’s room,” Aizawa explained and Tokoyami nodded, albeit numbly.
“Are you- are you sure about this?” he asked nervously.
Aizawa was honestly unused to this much hesitation from Tokoyami. He always seemed unflappable (no pun intended) so it was just a little…
Odd.
“Yes. Everyone is okay with it. We have 3 people that can negate Dark Shadow, and it’s really fine. It’s not the first time someone’s crashed at our apartment for break.”
“Who else-” Tokoyami started, a little startled, feather ruffled.
“Midnight often crashes on our sofa. A few students whose home life is not always the greatest, other heroes. Our apartment is settled in a lot of pro’s patrol routes, so if they’re too tired to make it back, they crash on our couch,” Aizawa explained and Tokoyami nodded.
When they arrived at the house, they were immediately welcomed in by Yamada, who was grinning happily as he ushered them in.
Dinner was already on the table, and they all sat down around it, an extra chair pulled up between Katsuki and Todoroki for Tokoyami.
And thankfully, dinner went smoothly.
A little awkward, it was a new dynamic, it always was when someone was there for the first time.
But smooth enough for Tokoyami to start relaxing.
Then after dinner, they all gathered in the living room for a while.
Everyone was doing their own thing, but they were doing their own thing together, if that made sense.
Bumblebee and Goblin slipped in, and Tokoyami was jumped on by Goblin and Bumblebee. Bumblebee threw herself onto his shoulders, and Goblin, the meteorite, leapt from the arm of the chair to his lap, Tokoyami folding like a lawn chair.
It was then when Aizawa realized how… oddly thin Tokoyami was.
A little worrisome, but not something they can really deal with right now.
“Hey. Bird Brain. If you’re up in the middle of the night, find Hitoshi or I. We’re usually up anyway,” Katsuki said suddenly, nudging Tokoyami in the ribs.
He coughed, nodding, and Katsuki grinned.
“Katsuki! Bedtime story?” Eri asked brightly and Katsuki smiled again (somehow brighter).
“Sure thing, Squirt.”
Tokoyami’s eyes widened as he watched Katsuki scoop up Eri and chuck her over his shoulder, Eri giggling all the way.
“Bakugou… he-?”
“He does voices for Eri. I wouldn’t miss it if I were you,” Hitoshi said absentmindedly, standing up and following them, Todoroki close behind him.
Tokoyami glanced at Yamada and Aizawa, and they nodded in unison, before he followed close behind.
“They’re like little ducklings,” Yamada commented, once they were out of earshot.
“Yeah. Thank you for welcoming him,” Aizawa said and Yamada nodded.
“Of course. Always,” he whispered and kissed Aizawa’s forehead.
“You told me all of us were cats the other day?” Aizawa started, and he got to see Yamada’s eyes light up.
“I have a bird son!”
"Yeah, you do."
