Chapter Text
yoongi didn't drink that much. okay, well maybe that's a lie. he didn't drink himself to oblivion that much. this only happens when something really bad occurs in his life, today being one of those days.
it was shaky from the beginning. he woke up late, spilled his coffee all over his pants, and when he finally was able to leave the house and get into his car, he realized he forgot his phone by the coffee maker. yoongi was an hour late to work, and although he knew it wouldn't matter too much, he hated not being punctual. due to the morning chaos, he didn't eat breakfast, leaving him even grumpier. he eventually went to the cafe downstairs to grab some food, which went pretty well except for him almost running into a pole he could've sworn wasn't there before, but he brushed it off considering today was already unfortunate.
yoongi locked himself up in his studio the rest of the day, and around five pm his phone pinged, pulling him out of his state of concentration. it was a reminder that read, dinner with taekwang at 6. ah yes, the only thing he has left to look forward to. a nice dinner with his boyfriend at one of their favorite restaurants. nothing could go wrong. right?
he arrived at the restaurant right on time, a little giddy from the excitement of going on a date with his boyfriend. taekwang wasn't there yet, but yoongi got a table for the two of them, just playing on his phone as he waited. soon enough, taekwang came and took his seat across yoongi. "sorry hyung, there was a bit of traffic coming here," he said as he flashed a half smile at yoongi.
"no worries, i don't mind waiting," yoongi replied, reaching over the table to intertwine taekwang's hand in his. taekwang grinned again, but had this awkward air around him that yoongi couldn't help but notice. the two of them were long past the awkward stage, but he shrugged it off. they ordered their food and ate, talking about random little things, with pockets of comfortable silence in between.
after they finished, though, taekwang fiddled with his fingers, and nervously said, "yoongi hyung, we need to break up."
"i'm sorry, what?" yoongi looked baffled and his gummy smile began to fade.
"i slept with someone else the other night." taekwang admitted in a small voice.
"you what?" yoongi's shock slowly turned into anger.
"i'm sorry, i was kind of drunk, and it just happened and i feel really guilty so i knew i had to tell you. and i figured we may as well break up too. it's not like our relationship has been progressing very much, i mean. . . what's the point anymore?" taekwang rambled on and on about things he must've been feeling that yoongi hadn't.
yoongi was fine with their relationship. he liked taekwang. he liked him enough to be with him for four months now. he didn't love him, at least not yet. but taekwang was a good boyfriend, and he made yoongi happy. from taekwang's point of view, though, it seemed like yoongi wasn't as good at reciprocating the affection taekwang wanted.
when taekwang had finished talking, yoongi simply nodded, paid for their food, and walked out of the restaurant. and that is how he found himself at the bar, using alcohol to try to forget about the terrible day he just had.

jeongguk was having a really good day. he woke up feeling refreshed and not tired for once. his hair was cooperating with him and he felt pretty good about himself. he stopped at a small coffee shop before heading to work, a smile on his face.
to a lot of people's surprise, jeongguk is a florist. a small, but well known flower shop in his city is his workplace. he loves tending to flowers, and plants in general. it was therapeutic to him and from what people have told him, he's pretty good at his job. he adores every inch of the shop, but his goal is to eventually own one himself.
jeongguk's day went by fairly quickly, but also very peacefully. he arranged bouquets people had ordered, helped others find the flower that suited their situation, and even got to meet a little girl who absolutely stole his heart. as it got later, his coworker, jaehyun, had something come up and asked jeongguk to close up shop. of course, jeongguk agreed since he didn't have any plans anyways, and he never minds spending more time with the flowers.
jeongguk had finished closing up shop, grabbed some dinner nearby, and was on his way home when his phone pings. he wedges his phone out of his back pocket to see a text from namjoon. it read, hey jeongguk, i'm really sorry to ask but could you do a favor for me? shrugging, jeongguk replied sure, what's up, hyung? immediately, bubbles appear on the screen, showing that namjoon is typing. when jeongguk receives the message he has to read over it twice, the message being well, a colleague of mine, min yoongi, is blackout drunk at a bar and i can't bring him home right now. . . could you pick him up for me?
min yoongi. . . he's heard that name before. namjoon's mentioned him a couple times but jeongguk has never met him. i guess it wouldn't hurt to take this guy home, considering jeongguk wouldn't want him stranded at the bar, especially since he's a friend of namjoon's. yeah hyung, i can do that, he responds. namjoon sends him almost a million thank you's, the address of the bar, as well as a photo of yoongi so jeongguk can find him. well, here goes nothing.
luckily, the bar wasn't too far and jeongguk got there fairly quickly. he entered the bar, which wasn't super top notch, but it was very nice and fancier than jeongguk had ever been to. he immediately started looking around for this yoongi guy, the picture of him on his phone for reference. finally, jeongguk spots him sitting on a stool, his upper body slouched over the bar, but his head resting on his arms, his face in jeongguk's direction. well, namjoon did say he was pretty wasted.
taking a deep breath, jeongguk walked over to him, yoongi barely stirring from his presence. "do you know him?" the bartender asked.
"uh, yeah, i'm here to take him home. did he already pay?" jeongguk waved a hand in front of yoongi's face. no reaction.
"yes, he handed me his card right before he passed out, so here," the bartender handed the card to jeongguk, "and i think he's had a really rough day, just warning you."
"yeah. . . well, thank you, i'll take him now," jeongguk smiled at the bartender and tried nudging yoongi to wake him up. yoongi groaned, his face scrunching up as though he was very annoyed, which he probably was. jeongguk felt bad having to wake him up, but he was a stranger to yoongi and didn't even know where his house was.
"excuse me, yoongi-ssi, i'm jeongguk, a friend of namjoon's, and he asked me to pick you up," jeongguk gently said to yoongi, the older boy slowly lifting his head up. he came face to face with jeongguk, suddenly jolting awake. jeongguk's eyes widened in surprise as yoongi just stared at him for a couple seconds.
"ah, you're jeongguk. thank you for coming here," yoongi looked into jeongguk's doe eyes, finding himself slightly entranced. he didn't know the stranger coming to take him home would be this attractive. screw namjoon for not warning him. yoongi stood up, a little wobbly, and jeongguk immediately helped him stay balanced.
jeongguk took yoongi's hand and made him grab onto the sleeve of his sweater. "here, hold on. you know, so you don't get lost or something," jeongguk mumbled shyly. he began walking them to the exit, unaware of yoongi's small smile behind him. jeongguk found himself smiling too as he felt yoongi's grip become tighter on his sleeve. cute, he thought to himself.
yoongi gave jeongguk his address, the car ride silent for the first few minutes. the older boy looked over at the other, not realizing he was staring until jeongguk said, "there something on my face?"
snapping out of his trance, yoongi jerks his head away to look forward instead. he was still intoxicated, but at least he was awake and mostly aware of his surroundings. clearing his throat, yoongi replied, "no, there's nothing. so you're a friend of namjoon's?" yeah, real smooth yoongi, just change the subject and move on.
"yeah, i've known namjoon hyung since i was in high school. we actually met because he tutored me in a few subjects. grades weren't my top priority back then, and he really helped me," jeongguk elaborated, a warm smile on his face. yoongi nodded slowly, only quickly glancing over at jeongguk so he wouldn't catch him looking again.
"i'm sure you know, but namjoon's a colleague of mine. a fellow producer. i met him back in college, and it still amazes me that we ended up at the same place," yoongi also smiles, remembering how excited he and namjoon were when they had both gotten a job at the same company. the two had stayed good friends and if there were anyone he could genuinely rely on, it was namjoon.
they arrived at yoongi's apartment, in a building around ten stories high. it wasn't the most expensive, but it wasn't shabby either. yoongi made money for a reason. yoongi expected his interaction with jeongguk to end there, but the younger boy got out of the car, surprising yoongi. he rushed to the other side, opening the door before yoongi could. yoongi looked up at him with wide eyes. "you're still drunk, so i'll help you get to your place," jeongguk looked right back into yoongi's eyes.
"uh yeah, okay, thank you," yoongi finally got out of the car, walking in front of jeongguk to lead the way to his apartment. it wasn't like it was awkward between the two, yoongi just felt bad that jeongguk's first impression of him was some wasted dude who couldn't get home himself. jeongguk walked him to the apartment, and when they got to the door, yoongi asked if he wanted water or anything.
"i'm okay, but thank you. you should get some sleep, yoongi-ssi, it's been a long day."
"oh, uh, you can call me yoongi hyung. and i'm sorry our first time meeting had to be like this," yoongi shyly looked down at the floor.
"hey, no worries, it happens to the best of us. i'm just happy i got to finally meet you. and well, maybe we can meet again? and we can call that the first time?" jeon jeongguk, what are you saying?
yoongi looked shocked for a second, but then nodded. this boy is pretty smooth, isn't he? "sure, let's do that, jeongguk-ah." the two exchanged numbers and jeongguk left with a smile on his face and a giddy feeling in his heart. today was a good day.
yoongi closed the door, leaning against it. his heart pounding in his chest, he felt himself smile the biggest smile he had all day. what just happened? he thought. today didn't end up so bad.
/
yoongi woke up with a pounding headache, remembering that he drank his soul away last night and now had to face the consequences. he rolled over with a groan, smashing his face into the pillow. he grabbed his phone off his side table, thanking himself for at least charging it before he passed out. it was already one pm, but who cares, it's a saturday, and he doesn't have plans anyways. he looks at his phone and sees several messages from different people, squinting to read them. the notifications on his phone read:
namjoonie best friend
- hyung you got home safe right?
- seems like you did, i asked jeongguk
- call me when you wake up, okay? the hangover's gonna be hell
taekwang<3
- i'm sorry again, yoongi.
jeongguk
- hi yoongi hyung !!
- this is jeongguk btw
- oh wait, you know that cuz i gave you my number too haha uh anyways
- you must still be sleeping, but good morning !! the hangover must suck:((
- make sure to drink lots of water and eat a good meal when you wake up:D
other messages were concerning work, which yoongi didn't care about right now. he deleted taekwang's message. he appreciates that he texted, but he didn't want to talk to his now ex boyfriend quite yet. he called namjoon real quick to tell him he was alive and okay. also to curse him out for not telling him jeongguk had above average looks. yoongi, stop that, he's like my little brother, goodness, namjoon had said in reply. finally, he opened the messages from jeongguk. even the way he texts is cute.
yoongi
- hey jeongguk
- the hangover is bad, my head is pounding
- thank you for checking in:]
after sending the last one, yoongi immediately regretted it. who sends that kind of face? god, you're so stupid, he thought, almost ready to slap himself on the face. he sighed, got out of bed, and as he went to the kitchen for food, he was met with the unfortunate result that his fridge was near empty. which meant he had to go to the grocery store. which meant he had to leave his house. that was not something yoongi was very fond of. but, he changed and was on his way.
/
jeongguk smiled as he saw that yoongi was awake and had texted him back. the little smile he sent had taken jeongguk aback, but he found it absolutely adorable. it was essentially yoongi's smile as an emoji. the boy had woken up still a little giddy from the previous night. frankly, he couldn't stop thinking about yoongi. his deep eyes, his petite and definitely huggable figure, his raspy voice. he didn't know what to do with himself. unfortunately, jeongguk had to go to work today, although his shift wasn't as long as yesterday.
he arrived at the shop humming a song that had been stuck in his head all morning. the boy loved to sing, and he knew he was decent at it, from what people had told him. lots of times, namjoon has tried to get him to audition for an entertainment company, join a singing group, or even post covers online. he thought it over, but he didn't really want to be famous, or known. posting covers on social media would probably be the only thing he could see himself doing. but right now, jeongguk sticks to singing by himself, at almost all times of the day.
it was around two pm when the bells chime, signaling that a customer has come. "welcome! how may i-" jeongguk stopped when he saw who entered the shop. "yoongi hyung!" it was none other than min yoongi. dressed in an oversized black sweater and black jeans, the older boy looked stunning to jeongguk. his hair fluffy and a little messy, he gave jeongguk a small smile.
"i just grabbed some groceries down the street," he lifted up the bags in his hands, "and while walking back, i saw you through the window."
"ah, i see! yes, this is my workplace. i'm a florist." duh jeongguk, obviously.
"i didn't really expect that. you know, you don't look like a florist. but seeing you here, it does feel like this is the place for you. you fit right in with the pretty flowers." yoongi, did you just flirt with flower boy, holy shit.
jeongguk giggled and blushed at yoongi's last sentence. "well, thank you hyung, i'll take that compliment. have you eaten yet?"
yoongi's face fell into a slight pout, and he said, "no, not yet. i didn't have any groceries to make food so. . . yeah. i should probably get home."
jeongguk's heart nearly died seeing yoongi pout. "yes, go home, you need to eat, hyung! wouldn't want our small hyung getting too grumpy," jeongguk teased.
"wow, small hyung? already making fun of me when we just met last night? i'm not even that small," yoongi mumbled the last statement, but jeongguk heard him perfectly.
"you're small but it's cute. like i can fit you in my pocket and carry you around," jeongguk continued to tease. but it made yoongi smile. and jeongguk liked seeing yoongi smile. the older boy left, leaving jeongguk to his thoughts.
he had a few boyfriends in the past, and they were all fairly serious relationships. he could definitely say he loved them at some point. but it's been over a year since his last relationship, and his heart hadn't felt this jumpy since. he wanted to get to know yoongi, but wanted to know more than just his favorite color or ice cream flavor; although he'd like to know those too. jeongguk wanted to know how yoongi grew up, what he would do if time stopped, or the way he organizes his closet. jeongguk was intrigued by this boy. pulling out his phone, he added a ':]' to yoongi's contact name.
seeing jeongguk at the flower shop made yoongi want to get to know the boy even more. he honestly thought jeongguk would be like a personal trainer or even a dancer, given his extremely fit body. not like yoongi was paying attention to that or anything. after eating and working on a few songs, yoongi slept the rest of his day away.
/
after work, jeongguk stopped by his best friend, taehyung's place, for dinner. he wasn't sure if he was going to tell him about yoongi yet, but he figured tae would realize something's going on given jeongguk's unusually peppy attitude. he knocked three times on his door, and it opened almost automatically. "jeonggukie!" taehyung yelped, crushing jeongguk as he hugged him. taehyung was and had always been a very touchy person, but jeongguk was used to it. you could say he's even grown fond of it.
"hi, tae, you can let go now," jeongguk managed to squeeze out, still being crushed.
"sorry, i just missed you, it feels like it's been so long," taehyung said with a pout.
"taehyung, it's been three days."
"three days too long!" the pouty boy protested before letting jeongguk into his home. his apartment was so overwhelmingly taehyung. he was a painter, so his walls were lined with paintings as well as photographs, that being a passion of tae's as well. several pictures of jeongguk, as well as taehyung's boyfriends, hoseok and jimin.
it's quite funny how their friend group worked, and how it ended up. it originated with jeongguk and taehyung, the two being best friends since high school. then the pair met jimin and hoseok in college, the two of them also being best friends. they all bonded fairly quickly, and that's how it was for awhile. about a year ago, hoseok and jimin started dating, and taehyung was heartbroken because he had a crush on the two boys, but never told them. jeongguk knew of this, of course, and told tae to just tell them, and whatever the result be, they could work it out from there.
as you can see, things worked out beautifully for all three of them. jimin and hoseok also had feelings for taehyung, and the three of them have been in a lovely relationship together for six months now. the dynamics of their friend group completely changed with this. a lot of times, jeongguk did feel left out, but they were good at separating friend time from boyfriend time, and jeongguk appreciated that. he was happy to have been able to keep his three closest friends.
"are hobi and jimin coming?" jeongguk asked, immediately flocking to taehyung's kitchen in search for food.
"no, probably not, they both have late dance classes tonight so we agreed to meet tomorrow," taehyung replied. hoseok and jimin owned a dance studio together where they held classes, had their own dance team, and competed in dance competitions.
"ah okay," jeongguk said. maybe i can tell him about yoongi hyung, then. "what do you want for dinner?" jeongguk asked instead, his stomach rumbling.
"hm, let's get jjajangmyun, i've been craving that!" taehyung pulled his phone out to order the food. well, i can tell him over dinner, that'll be fine, jeongguk thought as he nodded and smiled towards taehyung.
their meal came and for awhile they just ate, talking about random things, and how their days were going. yet it came to a point where jeongguk just had to tell him, had to spit it out. he couldn't hide things from tae and he was the only person he could talk to about this anyways.
"yeah, ggukie, so that's why boba from the cafe down the street is so much better than-"
"i met someone," jeongguk spit out, interrupting taehyung's rant.
taehyung, at first, looked offended he had been so rudely interrupted, but then, with shocked eyes, "you met someone? how, where, when, why, who?" taehyung rapidly fired questions, bouncing up and down in his seat. jeongguk giggled at the sight.
"well, he's a colleague of namjoon hyung's, and something came up last night, so i had to take him home," jeongguk began telling the story.
"had to take him home, eh?" taehyung looked and jeongguk with a smirk on his face.
"no, tae, not like that! stop it!" he smacked taehyung on the arm.
"anyways, yeah, i took him home and we were like kinda flirting and exchanged numbers," jeongguk slightly blushed remembering it, "and then i saw him again earlier while i was working."
"jeonggukie! that's so cute! my jeonggukie has a crush, huh?" taehyung teased, poking the blushing boy's sides.
"let's not call it a crush, but i do want to get to know him better," jeongguk smiled, thinking about the cute yoongi and even his cute actions over text. he really did want to get to know him better, and was still wondering what happened yesterday that caused yoongi to drink in the first place.
"well, i'm happy for you, and hopefully i'll meet this min yoongi soon," taehyung giggled and teased jeongguk.
"don't tell hobi or jimin hyung yet though, i just want you to know for now," jeongguk looked at taehyung with piercing eyes, knowing the older boy had a tendency to say things without thinking.
"yes, i'll keep your man a secret, don't worry," taehyung rolled his eyes and then continued to stuff his face with food. jeongguk smiled, thinking about the next time he might see yoongi.
/
it was a couple nights later, and yoongi was having dinner at some high end restaurant with namjoon and their friend, seokjin. seokjin chose the restaurant and yoongi and namjoon can't say no to him. it was also, to quote seokjin, "to help yoongi forget about his asshole ex boyfriend." so there they were.
yoongi told them he really wasn't that sad over taekwang, and forgot about him already. that wasn't one hundred percent true, but it was mostly true. he didn't give a fuck about taekwang anymore. their relationship wasn't deep enough for yoongi to be distraught over anyways. thankfully, seokjin and namjoon just continued regular conversation, respecting yoongi's wishes.
"so how's filming going, seokjin hyung?" namjoon asked, stars in his eyes as he looked at the older boy. to give a little backstory, seokjin is an actor at the same company as yoongi and namjoon. they bumped into each other one day, namjoon almost tripping over his own feet when he realized who it was. seokjin laughed at 'how cute' they were and from then on, the three were this little group. it was no secret that namjoon and seokjin had feelings for each other. no secret to everyone but them, that is.
the two obviously liked each other, but neither of them had done something about it yet. namjoon had explicitly told yoongi he liked seokjin, and although seokjin didn't tell him anything, he could tell. yoongi didn't want to interfere, though, and just lets the two playfully flirt until one of them finally mans up and asks the other out.
"filming's going well except for the fact that no one can take their eyes off my handsome face," seokjin says, laughing at his own statement. namjoon rubbed his forehead in agony, but you can tell he's really smiling. yoongi just shook his head, disappointed but not surprised.
"yoongi met a friend of mine the night he, well, got wasted. sorry i couldn't pick you up, by the way. although i'm sure you didn't mind," namjoon winked at him.
"oh fuck off. also i can't believe you didn't tell me he has the looks of a god," yoongi said, a shocked expression filling seokjin's face.
"woah, woah, woah, yoongi met someone? but wasn't that the same night that-"
yoongi cut seokjin off by saying, "yes it was, and i don't like jeongguk. i just think he's cute and i want to get to know him."
namjoon, with a fond look, said, "just don't hurt him, hyung. i've known that kid for a long time and he has one of the kindest souls i've ever met." yoongi nodded at namjoon, a silent promise that he'd never hurt jeongguk.
/
it was a week later when jeongguk and yoongi met again, this time on purpose. at dinner last week, seokjin and namjoon told yoongi to shoot his shot, or at the very least, make a new friend. so he mustered up the courage and texted jeongguk later in the week, asking if he wanted to get coffee with him sometime. the boy said yes and here they were.
yoongi had ordered a black coffee with two sugars, and jeongguk ordered a caramel frappe with extra caramel, of course. yoongi scrunched his nose at the extremely sweet concoction he watched jeongguk drink with pleasure. "how can you drink that? it's like, overflowing with sugar."
"how can you drink that? it looks bitter and depressing."
"fair enough," yoongi sighed, taking a sip of his supposed bitter and depressing drink. despite only having met jeongguk twice, yoongi felt weirdly comfortable around him, something he doesn't experience much with people.
"so, yoongi hyung. . . if you don't mind me asking, what happened that day? the day we met?" jeongguk asked hesitantly, not wanting to overstep any boundaries. he was curious though and he couldn't ignore that.
yoongi expected him to ask that, and calmly replied, "had a bad day from the start and then my boyfriend broke up with me over dinner."
"oh, that sucks. i'm sorry hyung," jeongguk pouted hearing what happened to yoongi. "you had a boyfriend?"
"yeah, we dated for four months. it was good and sweet, but i guess it wasn't that serious. i can't say i loved him, because i didn't," yoongi bluntly stated.
jeongguk nodded as he sipped his sugary concoction. "are you okay hyung?" the younger boy looked at yoongi with his big, doe eyes.
"i'm okay, jeongguk-ah, don't worry about me," yoongi smiled at the boy, making eye contact for a second, but getting too flustered to hold it.
after drinking their coffee, they both decided to take a walk around the area. the weather was beautiful and even yoongi, who's not usually up for walks, wanted to. jeongguk glanced over at the smaller man next to him. he looked at yoongi's fluffy black hair, which glistened under the sun. down to his pretty hands, his fingers adorned with several rings. jeongguk already knew he liked yoongi, but after hearing he just got out of a relationship, the last thing he wanted to do was overwhelm him.
"what's your favorite season, hyung?"
"hm, i think my favorite season is spring."
"really? why?" jeongguk asked, not expecting yoongi to answer that.
"winter is too cold. summer is too hot. fall kind of makes me depressed. but spring has a good balance of warmth and rain, so i like it," yoongi answered. he liked spring because it felt refreshing. it felt at ease. "what's your favorite season?"
"i think winter is my favorite. because along with winter comes the holidays and that joyous feeling. also, a lot of pretty flowers bloom in the winter, like snowdrops and pansies!" jeongguk exclaimed. people don't pay much attention to winter flowers, but they're some of the prettiest out there, in his opinion.
"that's really beautiful, jeongguk."
"are you being sarcastic?"
"no, i am genuinely touched, seriously."
jeongguk playfully slapped yoongi on the arm, causing the older to wince. the two continued to walk and talk until the sun started to set. yoongi offered to give jeongguk a ride home and he accepted. the car ride was full of laughter and jeongguk couldn't stop looking at yoongi's gummy smile.
"goodnight, gguk-ah."
"goodnight, hyung."
(your smile lights up the world.)
/
"jeongguk! over here!" namjoon called out to him, seated at a table for two at a place that served the best lamb skewers. namjoon knew lamb skewers were jeongguk's favorite, and he owed the boy, so this was his way of treating him out.
"sorry again for asking you to pick up yoongi hyung," namjoon apologized, patting jeongguk on the head.
"i told you hyung, it's okay! i really didn't mind," jeongguk giggled to himself. he really didn't mind. "besides, it was about time i met yoongi hyung. you talk about him all the time." jeongguk took a huge bite of his lamb skewer, humming in satisfaction. he didn't know if yoongi had told namjoon anything about the two of them, but he wasn't going to say anything in case.
"yeah, i'm glad you two finally met. maybe not in the best situation, but you met nonetheless," namjoon grinned, taking a sip of his soda.
"he's really cool! i can see why you're such good friends with him. i just saw him the other day and we talked for hours-" jeongguk stopped talking, realizing what had just slipped out of his mouth. "i mean- i-"
"jeonggukie, please, calm down. i know about you and yoongi, don't worry," namjoon chuckled at seeing the younger boy panic.
"oh. you know? we're just friends, by the way, like i have no intention of getting with him considering he just got out of a relationship-"
"jeongguk, you're rambling. and yes, i know that too. i pushed yoongi hyung to become friends with you. he needs more friends," namjoon mumbled the last sentence. jeongguk's eyes widened, partially shocked, but also relieved that namjoon was already aware of what was going on.
"you're both precious to me, so just like i told yoongi, i'll tell you," namjoon said, jeongguk's eyes perking up at this. "don't hurt yoongi hyung, jeongguk."
"i won't, hyung," jeongguk says, a reassuring smile on his face. they continued to eat in a comfortable silence, jeongguk stuffing his face with lamb skewers.
"how are things going with that jin guy?" jeongguk asked. namjoon choked on his soda.
"things are the same. i feel like we're so close that what would be considered flirting isn't flirting for us," namjoon said with a pout, poking at his food.
"hyung, he probably is flirting with you! i think one of you needs to make a move and bam, happy ending!" jeongguk exclaimed, making a boom motion with his hands.
"i just don't want to mess anything up, you know?"
"i know, hyung. then take your time, okay? and introduce me to this guy soon. what if we brought yoongi too and had like a double date?" jeongguk gasped. namjoon slowly shook his head, chuckling.
"i don't know if i should put you and jin hyung in the same room."
"what's that supposed to mean?!" the two boys broke out in laughter. namjoon took some lamb skewers to go, and jeongguk asked why, considering namjoon doesn't like them that much. he told him they were for yoongi, who adored lamb skewers just like jeongguk did. i'll keep that in mind, is what jeongguk told namjoon.

jeongguk smiled at his phone, happy that he was going to see a movie with yoongi. he really didn't have anyone to watch horror movies with since taehyung, jimin, and hoseok were all scaredy cats who'd never agree to go with him. plus, going to the movies alone was kind of sad, so he thought why not ask yoongi?
"jeonggukie, why are you smiling at your phone like that?" jimin questioned, the older boy seated on a couch across from jeongguk. jeongguk forgot he was with his friends for a second. hobi and jimin were looking at him with curious eyes, and taehyung looked as if he wanted to say something but couldn't.
"uh, just um, a new update for a game i've been playing," jeongguk said. i mean, it wasn't a total lie, an update had come out like last week. maybe he should just tell jimin and hoseok. it wouldn't do any harm because him and yoongi were just friends.
"jeongguk, we've known you for years. you rarely ever smile like that, so it has to be about something more important than a game," hoseok argued, looking at jeongguk with squinted eyes. taehyung stayed quiet, but looked over at jeongguk, mouthing at him to just tell them.
"okay, fine, you really wanna know?" hobi and jimin nodded, taehyung nodding a second late.
jeongguk took a deep breath and simply said, "i made a new friend." the two dancers' eyebrows went up, clearly taken aback by jeongguk's words.
"a new friend? ggukie that's amazing!" jimin exclaimed, tackling him in a hug. jeongguk let out an oof at the sudden attack.
"who? when? where? just a friend?" hoseok rapidly asked. "also, tae, you're so quiet. aren't you surprised?"
"well, jeonggukie told me already, so. . ." taehyung's mouth forming a line, expecting hobi or jimin to ask him why he didn't tell. instead, they just nodded, and went back to pestering jeongguk. they couldn't take attention away from the main issue here.
"his name is yoongi, and i met him through namjoon hyung," jeongguk answered.
"wait, yoongi as in min yoongi? min yoongi as in suga? the producer?" jimin gasped, over dramatically making big hand gestures.
"yes, that's him," jeongguk stated calmly. he knew yoongi was a pretty big producer, but he was kind of used to it, being friends with namjoon. come to think, he hadn't even really talked to yoongi about work that much.
"jeongguk, i have to meet him. his songs are just- wow, i can't believe you know min yoongi," jimin ranted on and on, talking about yoongi's music. hoseok and taehyung looked at him in partial disgust, but you could see they were really just fond of the boy.
"i promise you'll get to meet him, hyung. maybe i can finally introduce you guys to namjoon too!" jimin nearly fainted.

the day they planned to watch the movie together, jeongguk couldn't keep his cool all day. he was nervous. there weren't just butterflies in his stomach, oh no, there were whole ass elephants in his stomach. you're just hanging out with a friend, jeongguk, he thought to himself in attempt to calm him down.
the thing was, no matter how many times he told himself yoongi is a friend, it didn't help because jeongguk didn't see him that way. no matter how much he tries to ignore it, jeongguk knows he doesn't see yoongi as just a friend. he sees him as someone he wants to hug and kiss and tell him he's the prettiest kitten in the world. no matter how many times jeongguk has thought that, he shoves those thoughts down when it's time to see yoongi.
jeongguk showed up to the movie theater twenty minutes early out of nervousness. he fiddled with the sleeves of his sweater, his leg shaking. he definitely wasn't this nervous the last time he met yoongi. maybe it's because he knows the older boy more now and has thought about him even more since their last meeting. to his surprise, yoongi shows up only ten minutes after jeongguk, waving to him, smiling a warm gummy smile.
he forgot about his nerves from before, and he got up from the bench he was sitting on to meet yoongi in the middle. "hey, hyung," jeongguk greeted, flashing a shy smile in return.
"hey, gguk-ah. you want popcorn? a soda? hyung's treat."
"no, i asked you to join me, so it's my treat," jeongguk argued, beginning to saunter over to the concessions.
"okay, but i'm your hyung and it's just weird so let me pay, jeongguk," yoongi grabbed his arm and dramatically sauntered off in front of him.
"hyung, can we at least split it? i want to buy you stuff too," jeongguk pouted, yoongi only scowling at his behavior. in the end, jeongguk paid for yoongi's soda, as it was the only way to get the boy to stop clinging to his arm.
they walked into the movie theater, jeongguk excitedly pulling yoongi up to the top row. these are the best seats, hyung, cmon! the two sat down, focusing on the large screen in front of them. the movie was about some possessed girl trying to kill her messed up family, but it's safe to say neither of them were really paying attention.
jeongguk kept glancing over at yoongi, his pale skin glowing from the faint light of the movie. his lips that looked so soft and jeongguk just wanted to know how they taste- he swallowed down his thoughts. before he knew it, the movie was over, their popcorn bucket was empty, and the soda long gone.
"not bad, but kind of mediocre," yoongi said to jeongguk as they walked out of the theater.
"yeah, my expectations weren't very high. thank you for watching it with me, though."
"of course, gguk-ah. you wanna get some drinks? i know a bar not too far from here. i promise you won't have to take care of me like last time," yoongi chuckled, the sound of his deep laugh ringing in jeongguk's ears.
"yeah, let's go, hyung."
maybe it was the alcohol, but yoongi looked so so pretty. in the dim light of the bar, jeongguk couldn't look away from the pretty man in front of him. "hyung, i heard you like lamb skewers. i like them too. a lot," jeongguk said, his words slightly slurred.
"i do like lamb skewers, gguk. we should eat some together next time." next time. jeongguk smiled at that.
the two boys talked about their day, how yoongi's job as a producer was, and jeongguk's favorite parts about being a florist. then yoongi asked a question jeongguk knew the answer to, but hesitated a little to share.
"why did you become a florist?" yoongi asked.
"hm, well," jeongguk paused for a moment before continuing, "my mom loved flowers. her smile was so radiant whenever my dad brought some home for her. she would care for them, nurture them, and they made her happy. it wasn't until she passed away when i realized that flowers aren't always beautiful. everyone brought flowers to her funeral, there were flowers everywhere. it kind of pissed me off because they reminded me of her. but i think i just missed her. so i became a florist because surrounding myself with flowers is like surrounding myself with her."
"i'm sorry to hear that, gguk. she sounds like a lovely woman. when did she pass away?"
"she was. and i was in high school," jeongguk gulped down some of his beer, vividly remembering those days.
after a small period of silence, yoongi takes a deep breath, and carefully, he says, "i lost my dad in high school." jeongguk perks up at this, his sad eyes turning to yoongi.
"there was a fire at his workplace, and he died saving his colleagues. he saved three of them, but then lost his own life," yoongi says, his face set in a deep frown.
"your dad was a hero."
"i know. he really was. i knew then i wanted to save people like he did. maybe i'm not doing it in the same way, but i'd like to think that my music saves people."
jeongguk got up from his side of the booth, moving to sit right next to yoongi. he tentatively reached for yoongi's hand, holding it and rubbing circles on his palm. he replied, "it does, hyung. i know it does. it's so beautiful and moving. thank you for sharing your story with me. and for listening to mine."
"of course, gguk. you know hyung is here for you, no matter what," yoongi squeezed jeongguk's hand before properly intertwining their fingers together. jeongguk's heart started beating faster. yoongi was so close to him, he could feel the warmth radiating off of him. he could smell the alcohol he was drinking, mixed with a hint of peaches. he could've kissed yoongi that night. but right now, holding hands with him was enough.
(your presence comforts me.)

the first time yoongi showed up to take jeongguk to work was a complete surprise. the older boy simply texted jeongguk to ask what time his shift started, and when jeongguk left his apartment building, there yoongi was. sitting in his car, the window rolled down, slightly bopping his head to the music playing. he saw jeongguk standing there, a shocked expression on his face, and yoongi dared to smirk.
"get in, flower boy," yoongi said, his confident demeanor making jeongguk go weak in the knees.
the second time wasn't as much of a surprise, but it still made jeongguk happy as ever. this time yoongi has rested his head back, his eyes closed as he listened to the music flooding out from his speakers. jeongguk thought, maybe i can sneak up on him and scare him. so he creeped up to the car, making his footsteps as light as possible.
as soon as he put his hand on the handle of the car door, yoongi says, "good morning, ggukie." startled, jeongguk jumps back and lets out a yelp.
"i can't believe you," jeongguk mumbles, angrily getting into the car and slamming the door shut. he pouted and looked at yoongi, who sat there chuckling, a cheeky smile on his face.
the third time jeongguk asked why. "why do you keep doing this, hyung?"
"you're on the way to my work. and i like- we're friends, i mean. i do these things for my friends," yoongi said. friends.
/
"he does not do shit like that for friends," said namjoon. he was visiting the flower shop and jeongguk told him about his encounter with yoongi that morning.
"gguk, are we talking about the same yoongi? the same yoongi who literally won't get me a cup of water from a cooler two feet away from him?"
jeongguk stared blankly at namjoon. "well, that's what he told me, but i didn't believe him, which is why i'm telling you!"
"yoongi's not good with feelings, so he probably panicked and said that out of nervousness. don't ponder over it for too long, jeongguk-ah," namjoon pat the younger boy on the shoulder.
"i really like him, hyung," jeongguk said quietly. "by the way, why are you here? you didn't tell me you were stopping by."
"ah well. . . i'm gonna confess to seokjin hyung," namjoon blushed, rubbing the back of his neck.
"really? hyung, that's huge! does this mean i finally get to meet him?" jeongguk looks at namjoon with a smirk. he also prepares the prettiest bouquet of pink flowers, which namjoon mentioned is seokjin's favorite color.
"wish me luck, jeonggukie."
"you won't need it," jeongguk smiled.

- hyung !!!

- i'm so happy for you, hyung
- we could have dinner and formally meet?
namjoonie hyung
- yeah !! i'll figure out details and let you know:)
namjoon ended up inviting yoongi, so jeongguk invited taehyung, jimin, and hoseok. it was about time they all met anyways. jeongguk was excited to see yoongi again, and he changed his outfit about a hundred times. he settled on a navy blue button down shirt with black skinny jeans. jimin, tae, and hobi gave him a ride to seokjin's house, so the four of them arrived together.
upon entering, they heard loud shouts from the other room. namjoon, who opened the door for them, had his head down in embarrassment. "i'm so sorry," he said, "they're fighting over some stupid video game." they all said their hellos, jimin excitedly telling namjoon how much he loves his music.
while the others were busy greeting each other, jeongguk's eyes were darting around the room in search for a small man. he then saw yoongi enter the corridor, followed by seokjin.
"hello everyone, and yes i am the one and only kim seokjin!" seokjin waved to them, a bright smile on his face, as if he wasn't just yelling in the other room.
aside from that, the trio and jeongguk were amazed to see seokjin. taehyung especially loved dramas and the others were pulled into watching them because of him. seokjin was in a few of his favorites, and when jeongguk told him he's namjoon's boyfriend, taehyung nearly fainted.
"hi! i'm kim taehyung and i'm a huge fan! this is jung hoseok and park jimin, my boyfriends!" taehyung smiled, appearing to be confident, but jeongguk knew he was extremely nervous on the inside.
"it's nice to meet you all!" seokjin ruffled taehyung's hair, the younger boy blushing. "so you must be namjoon's beloved jeon jeongguk!"
seokjin shook jeongguk's hand, and jeongguk smiled warmly at him, not failing to catch namjoon's huge grin at the sight.
the group was taken on a mini tour of the house, yoongi rolling his eyes every time seokjin would make a joke or pun. while namjoon was laughing and smiling fondly at seokjin. the trio fit right in, immediately getting acquainted with seokjin and yoongi. jimin almost lost it when he saw yoongi, the others teasing him about it.
they all ate dinner, a meal cooked by seokjin himself. from there, they retreated to the living room, putting on a movie that none of them ended up paying attention to. namjoon and seokjin were cuddling on one corner of the couch, talking quietly and laughing with each other. jimin and tae had fallen asleep in hoseok's arms, hoseok beginning to drift asleep himself. that left jeongguk and yoongi, the only ones who appeared to be actually watching the movie.
they sat next to each other because after the couples moved into their spots, yoongi whined and pulled jeongguk next to him. he said he did it to spite the others and show them it didn't matter than he and jeongguk were the only single ones there. so there they were, thighs pressed against each other, yoongi's hand awfully close to jeongguk's.
"hey, gguk-ah," yoongi leaned over to whisper in jeongguk's ear, "do you know what's going on in this movie?"
jeongguk, who couldn't care less about the movie and honestly had no idea what was going on, answered, "no, hyung, i have absolutely no clue what's going on. sorry."
yoongi chuckled quietly, a giggle coming out of jeongguk's mouth too. "well, looks like we're the only ones awake now," yoongi says, turning to look at jeongguk, who was looking down at him and yoongi's hands. yoongi noticed this, his eyebrow quirking as if he was thinking about what to do next.
"hyung, can i hold your hand?" jeongguk asked, his voice in a low whisper. he was surprised at this confidence, and scared at what yoongi would say. but the older boy didn't say anything. instead, he just intertwined their fingers, resting his head on jeongguk's shoulder.
"let hyung use you as a pillow for tonight." it doesn't just have to be for tonight, jeongguk thinks. they fall asleep holding hands.
(you can hold my heart too.)
/
jeongguk woke up laying down on seokjin's couch, the bright sun causing him to groan. he sat up and the first thing he noticed was that he was alone. yoongi was nowhere in sight, and his heart sunk a little bit. suddenly, seokjin entered the room wearing an apron and carrying a spatula. "ah jeongguk, you're awake! come eat soon, okay?" jeongguk nodded, smiling because of seokjin's peppy tone.
he walked to the dining room and noticed only namjoon and taehyung were there. namjoon, seeing jeongguk's eyes wander, said, "yoongi hyung was called in for a last minute meeting, so he had to leave." jeongguk's face softened, the nerves getting released from his heart.
"yeah he wouldn't stop pouting when he had to leave, complaining that he wouldn't get to be next to you when you woke up," taehyung commented, throwing a quick wink at jeongguk. his eyes widened at that, in disbelief because of what taehyung had said.
"it's true, jeongguk. you somehow bring out the soft side of yoongi hyung," namjoon sipped his coffee, tapping on the side of the mug as if he was thinking.
"he's right. yoongi's soft side coming out is something we rarely ever see," seokjin said, walking into the room carrying plates piled up with food. taehyung excitedly put his phone away to begin digging into the feast seokjin made for them.
ignoring the others' talk about yoongi, jeongguk asked, "where did hobi and jimin go?" taehyung responded saying they had an early dance class, and that it was a shame they couldn't taste what seokjin had made for them. seokjin then insisted that they take food home, which was something they couldn't argue against. after that, jeongguk and tae left, jeongguk agreeing to go shopping with taehyung.
they were at an art supply store, taehyung looking for a specific size canvas. "you really like him, don't you, ggukie?" taehyung asked as they were walking through the aisles. for a few seconds, jeongguk didn't respond, a little distracted by the cute cat stickers in the aisle that reminded him of yoongi.
"i do. i do, but i'm scared, tae," jeongguk admitted.
"what are you scared of, jeongguk-ah?" taehyung asked, taking a pause from looking at canvases to face jeongguk. jeongguk's eyebrows furrowed, as though he was thinking about what to respond. he fiddled with the ends of his sweater sleeve, something he tends to do when he's conflicted.
"i'm scared of hurting him, i guess. i'd never forgive myself if i ever hurt yoongi hyung," jeongguk mumbled, but loud enough for taehyung to hear.
"you wouldn't hurt him, gguk. i know you. now let's go, i found the canvas," taehyung said, making his way towards the cash register. jeongguk followed him, the cute cat stickers clutched in his hand.
