Work Text:
Naib's hair was being tied into a small ponytail by Vera, her flowery perfume scenting the man's suit.
"Naib- Are you sure that you-" The woman murmured, looking at Naib's empty gaze. She continued working on his frame, fixing up the suit if needed and his hair as well.
"No. I still miss him. He was a bad person, but not to me." He responded, turning to look at Vera.
"We know you two loved each other. Even Martha did. She once told me that her ex-husband would be sad if you two ever split... Her husband died a year ago. He didn't live to see you two split." A few tears fell down her face, the smile she held disappearing.
"I remember my sister dying. I killed her, did you know? It was me the whole time. I know you knew about me being a killer, just like him... Just like Jack. She was my everything." She continued to cry as Naib looked at her. He put a hand around her and pulled her closer.
"We're all killers... Jack, me, you, Emily, Freddy. Almost everyone here is a killer. Don't worry. I'm sure your sister watches over you everyday." He smiled and pat her back as she continued to sob.
An hour passed. Vera finished Naib's suit, hair and everything else. The doors to the chapel opened and Naib looked in front of himself. Emma stood with the flowers in her hands, the basket already overflowing with petals.
Eli stood there, waiting at the wedding arch. His blackish-blue blindfold in contrast with the black suit he wore. Naib wore white.
The chapel was full of flowers, sage and bouquets, crosses scattered around some of the walls.
"You may kiss him as you two unite in a marriage for the rest of your life. May god be with both of you and guard you from any harm." Fiona said as she took off Eli's blindfold, which was supposed to act as a veil, she guessed so at least.
Eli leaned in and so did Naib.
"Do I really love him?" Naib thought to himself. He thought about someone else.
Eli smiled and walked Naib to the cake, everyone clapping. The seer licked off some frosting off his finger as he sliced a piece with the knife. Naib looked down, refusing to make eye contact with him.
After everyone left the chapel, Eli brought Naib to the bridge that stood over the river next to the small building.
He took out a pocket knife from his suit and made a cut in his wrist, letting the blood drop down into the water.
"Naib... Please." Eli whispered out, begging Naib to put his wrist above the river, so a few drops of his blood could fall in the water as well.
Naib extended his hand out and let Eli make a cut. But he took his hand back before the blood fell down. He didn't want this.
"Are you sure... You can wait?" Naib asked and looked down, tears threatening to fall from his eyes, thinking of his other person.
Eli looked down and nodded.
Naib didn't want to see that nod.
After that "ritual", Naib requested Eli to go the hill with him. It was a small, cozy and quiet hill near the chapel.
"Is h-" Eli started to say, but decided to stop himself. He didn't want to say something rude.
Naib held the bouquet from the wedding in his hands, seeing what he came on the hill for and smiling.
"Eli.. Can you-"
"Yes. No worries." Eli smiled and Naib smiled back.
The mercenary looked down and crouched, staring at the gravestone.
"Jack Sickert, 1860-1898, may his soul Rest in piece."
"H-hi Jack." Naib stuttered out, the tears spilling out of his eye sockets after such a long time.
"How have you been, d-dear? Is it lonely here on the hill..? I know it probably is... It's lonely without you too. T-this is for you." Naib said, smiling as he settled the bouquet from the chapel on the gravestone next to the two other flowers that stayed.
No one had ever brought flowers to Jack's grave except Naib, Martha and Vera. Only they cared about him. Vera had one bouquet with a few flowers, Naib had left roses but someone kept taking them away and throwing them into the water down the hill. The petals were always floating in the water.
"Jack... I really want you to be here. W-why did you need to die? D-did you really want to leave me that soon..?" Naib whimpered out.
Eli stared at him and started crying as well. He had always brought one yellow rose to the grave. Each time he visited. But maybe it was the wind blowing it away, even if the gravestone had some slight barriers around the place for flowers.
"Jack... You know I don't love anyone. B-but I loved you and I still do. I-i can't do good. I can't be true to anyone. You're the only person I'll ever love. H-heh.. If Martha sees me crying like this.. I'm a gurkha soldier, a mercenary. I should not cry... But you told me it was normal, for everyone to cry..."
"Jack? Why does no one leave flowers for you? Does someone take them away? Is it the wind..? Do you just not want the flowers? You loved them when I gave you flowers."
Naib kept on crying. Eli tried to walk to him, to hug him or tell him that Jack is in a better place.
"Don't touch me... Stay away. I want some t-time with him! Please..." Naib cried out, trying to not fucking faint on the gravestone. The whole situation was making him done with life.
"I-i'm sorry... Let's just call the marriage off. Im sorry that everyone forced us to do this when you weren't even ready. I'm sorry, Naib. I know you love him." Eli said, smiling at Naib. Eli loved him, but Naib didn't love him back.
"No... Eli, it's okay. I-i will try to love you back but- just let me have my time with Jack right now, o-okay?" Naib smiled sadly at the other man.
"Naib... This isn't healthy for you-"
Naib took out the kukri blade from under the stones next to Jack's grave.
"He gave this to me as a gift when I returned from war... Isn't it beautiful? Just like him. It's time for me to go, be good, Eli. P-please don't greave over me- I'm not worthy for you. I'm not worth your tears."
"Naib, w-what are you doing?"
"I'm sorry. Eli, tell everyone what happened. Tell Martha, tell Vera. They're the only ones that left flowers on Jack's grave with me. When the funeral happens, I want my grave here. Next to my husband's. Next to Jack's." Naib smiled and plunged the blade into his chest.
"Where am I?"
Naib looked around. He was dressed in his favorite clothes. The green hoodie, the black bandages around his arms, the black leather boots and black tight pants.
"Is this... Where I'll be forever?"
"Oh my god..."
Naib's eyes widened at the voice.
"Darling... Naib, oh my god..." The man was crying as Naib turned around.
"JACK!" He screamed and ran towards the only man he loved.
"Welcome home, my love." Jack whimpered out as Naib was in his arms once again.
