“Isn’t it Yuko-chan’s turn to do the dishes?” Kiryu asks, poking his head into the orphanage’s cluttered kitchen.
Nishiki turns his head, still holding a bowl and a dishcloth. “Yeah, but she’s not feeling very well. I said I’d take her turn.”
Kiryu smiles, stepping further into the room. “That’s sweet of you, Nishiki.”
“Eugh, shut up, Kiryu,” Nishiki says, but he smirks. His expression softens into a genuine smile, and he turns around, leaning back against the counter. “I’ve gotta do it for her. She’s my little sister.”
“You’re a good brother.”
“Shut up, bro!” Nishiki hisses, his cheeks flushing, and he tilts his head, letting his long hair cover his red face.
Kiryu laughs, darts across the room, and wraps an arm around Nishiki’s neck. “Aww, Nishiki’s embarrassed.”
“Go fuck yourself, Kiryu,” Nishiki says, any attempt at appearing aggressive ruined by his red cheeks and the smirk twitching on his lips.
Letting Nishiki escape his grip, Kiryu just keeps smiling, watching his boyfriend smooth the now-crooked collar of his shirt (not a hand-me-down for once; he and Kiryu bought some new, fashionable clothes with the cash from their part-time jobs, and Nishiki looks so handsome in his shirt). “So, want any help?”
“Really? Don’t you have anything better to do?”
Kiryu lets his mind wander, remembering how an episode of that awesome anime is on in a few minutes (some of the younger kids got him into it). But Nishiki is still doing his sister’s chores even though he only did his own yesterday, and it makes Kiryu’s chest flutter to see his boyfriend being such a caring big brother.
So he shakes his head. “Nope. Want my help?”
Nishiki stares at him, and a beautiful grin breaks across his face. “I’d love that, bro.”
And Nishiki tosses a dishcloth at him, the sodden fabric smacking Kiryu across the face.
“Oi!”
“Oops,” Nishiki says, grinning bashfully.
