of course this all had to happen. rengoku had been out on a longer mission and you had missed your period. then again, with the stress of worrying about your fiancee constantly, your period wasn’t exactly regular. you didn’t exactly know when he would be getting back, so you left a note on the counter saying you were going into town for a few things. it did end up being true but your main goal was to buy a pregnancy test while you were out.
once you got home, you made sure to read the instructions and take the test. you sat and waited for the results. the wait felt like it was taking ten years since you had nothing better to do while waiting other than stare at the wall. finally, after what felt like forever, it was time. almost too scared to look at the test, you cover the results with your hand before looking at it.
negative.
was that a relief? was that sad? you and rengoku had talked about starting a family together, but after you were married. a wave of emotions hit you before you threw the test away. maybe another day. maybe your period was just late. at that point, you didn’t feel like doing anything else, so you decided to take a nap.
rengoku walked into the house, tired as hell, yet still excited to see you. it had been far too long since he last saw you. all he wanted to do was scoop you into his arms and spend the night with you in his embrace, but he knew he’d have to shower first.
when he walked into your shared room, he noticed you asleep on the bed and gave you a soft kiss on your forehead before making his way to the bathroom. after showering, he went to discard and empty bottle from the shower only to see the pregnancy test in the trash. he wasn’t dumb, he knew what it was, so he picked it up and inspected it. when he saw that it was negative, he was sad, but figured it’d be better to talk it out with you first, so he set out to wake you up from your nap.
he gently shook your shoulders and peppered your face with kisses to wake you up, which worked eventually. “babe?”
“welcome home!”
“yeah, uh, thanks... but i’d like to ask why is there a pregnancy test in the trash?”
“oh. uh, so my period was late and i wanted to see if it was possible.”
“are you set on waiting until after we get married?”
“not specifically, why?”
“i could make sure to get you pregnant right now, if you’d like.”
