Work Text:

The wind howls incessantly against the windows, threatening to make the whole house shake. Jungkook hides under his blankets in bed, hoping that doesn’t happen. Normally, he quite likes thunderstorms, but the loud crashing and banging outside as the wind unleashes her fury on anything she can get her hands on outside, is not exactly the calming rain or the exciting thunder. But eventually, he does fall asleep, and by morning, all is calm and still, the sun smiling warmly on the still soaked and wind-thrashed world.

After breakfast and coffee, he goes outside to assess the damage, finding his bin at the other end of the street. At least it’s still intact, though, unlike the fence in the back garden, completely collapsed so his and his neighbour’s gardens now combine. He sighs, running a hand through his hair. He’ll have to talk to them and decide how to get it fixed.

Normally, his parents would probably have taken care of it, but they’re away on vacation, so it looks like he’ll have to do it himself. And yes , he is an adult, but he prefers to avoid all his responsibilities as much as possible, especially if it involves social interaction. But leaving the fence broken isn’t exactly an option; he does not want the next door’s kids coming into his garden or annoying him while he’s singing or studying or whatever outside, or wandering into their side and pressing their noses against the glass.

Jungkook goes back inside to change out of his pyjamas, mentally preparing himself to talk to his neighbours. He takes a few deep breaths in, and heads over, knocking confidently on the front door.

What he’s not prepared for, however, is how cute and pretty the man who opens the door is, and he spends a good few seconds just gaping at him. He really doesn’t know how he’s never seen him before (well, he does -- he only leaves when he must and keeps his head down to avoid all contact with people, but) considering they’re neighbours, and suddenly he wishes he accompanied his parents those times they visited the neighbours to welcome them to the area or for whatever other reasons they had.

“Can I help you?” the man finally asks, voice deep, words slurred in an accent he doesn’t quite recognise. It’s sort of jarring, in comparison to his soft and delicate complexion.

“Oh! Um, yes!” Jungkook fumbles, mentally face palming, “I’m from next door. The fence in the back is kinda dead so I wanted to um, ask you how you wanted to go about fixing it?”

“It is? Oh, I hadn’t checked yet,” he pauses, then steps aside. “Come in?”

“What?”

“Oh, um, just to look at it? The fence?” the man clarifies.
“Right! Sure.”

The man smiles and closes the door behind Jungkook before leading him through to the back door. There’s teddies and other toys scattered around the otherwise clean floor, the furniture all sleek modern and black and white. He doesn’t get much more chance to look around as the man ushers him outside, and he follows.

“Oh damn,” he says as he looks at the collapsed fence. He steps towards it and tries lifting one section of it up, but struggles to, so Jungkook quickly runs to help. It’s of no use though, it won’t stand up again on its own, the fence come completely out of its foundations.

“Well,” the man starts, “I was gonna suggest I fix it but I’m not sure I can,” he laughs. “The fence was kinda shit anyway so, what do you say we just call someone to fit in a new one? And we can split the price?”

“Uh, sure,” Jungkook agrees. The fence had been threatening to fall for ages now, and it was kind of rotting too.

“Great! I’ll take care of it, if you want, um…?”

“Jungkook.”

“Jungkook-ssi. I haven’t seen you before, have I?”

“Ah,” Jungkook rubs the back of his neck, “No, you’ll have met my parents though.”

“Jongseok and Miyeon, right?”

“Yep, that’s them. They’re just away right now, so…”

“I see,” the man smiles again. “I’m Yoongi by the way. It was nice to meet you, Jungkook-ssi!”

“You too, Yoongi-ssi.” Jungkook steps over the fallen fence and enters his home through the back door, letting out a breath he didn’t know he was holding once he’s inside. It’s just the social anxiety, he tells himself, nothing to do with the fact that Yoongi’s smile was the prettiest thing he’s ever seen. Nothing at all.

A few days pass and as far as Jungkook is aware, there’s no development on the new fence front. He’s not about to ask Yoongi about it though, lest he seem rude. And while he’s too self-conscious to go out in his garden now, he’s actually started to grow fond of seeing Yoongi’s little twins playing around every day -- the weather now being much nicer and seemingly staying that way. They’re cute, and even if their squeaky voices (that he can’t for the life of him decipher) are a little annoying, it somehow brings a smile on his face when he walks past the window and sees the two girls bouncing together on their trampoline.

About a week later, though, one of the two does stomp over into Jungkook’s garden. He watches just to make sure everything’s okay, and then his eyes widen as she plops on the grass and starts wailing. Her sister, on the other hand, is happily playing with a doll in the trampoline and pointedly ignoring her. There’s no sign of Yoongi.

Jungkook bites his lip, debating with himself, but the little girl doesn’t stop crying so he quickly goes out to check on her.

“Hey, hey,” he approaches gently, crouching down. “What’s the matter?”

She stops crying to look at him, feline eyes that resemble her father’s -- at least, Jungkook assumes Yoongi’s her father -- looking up at him curiously. She wipes at her puffy red nose with her arm. She crawls a little closer, but still keeps her distance.

Right then, Yoongi finally comes bursting through their back door, scanning the garden until he spots Jungkook and the girl.

“Mina!” he calls, jogging towards them. “I told you not to go into their side!”

She turns around at his voice and immediately starts crying again. Yoongi glances at Jungkook who just shrugs before turning back to his daughter, crouching down and lifting her up.

“Shh, shh. What’s wrong baby? It’s okay.” He bounces her up and down in his arms gently as she cries into his neck, giving Jungkook an apologetic look.

Mina whines something into his shoulder but it comes out all muffled, so neither of them can understand her.

“Minji? What did Minji do?”

Mina just points at Minji, still playing happily on her own and Yoongi seems to understand.

“Minji!” he calls, soft voice suddenly stern.

“What!” she whines loudly.

“You know what, now come here!”

Jungkook keeps watching awkwardly from the side as Yoongi sorts out the situation -- scolding Minji for taking Mina’s doll and refusing to let her play with her -- unsure whether he should go back inside or not. But seeing Yoongi with his kids is somehow… attractive, and he mentally slaps himself at the thought.

“Sorry about that,” Yoongi turns back to him, smiling apologetically, still patting Mina gently on the back as he holds her. Meanwhile Minji is now clinging to his leg after giving the doll back to her twin. “And sorry about the fence, I’ve been busy and haven’t had time to call anyone.”

“Oh! That’s okay, don’t worry about it!” Jungkook quickly reassures.

Yoongi shakes his head. “No, I’ll call someone by next weekend, I swear. Then these two--” he ruffles Minji’s hair and she giggles -- “Can’t bother you again.”

“They’re fine,” Jungkook says, unable to stop a smile forming, “They don’t bother me. If you need me to call someone instead just let me know.”

He steps closer to tuck a strand of Mina’s hair behind her ear. She giggles and immediately hides her face in Yoongi’s neck.

“Ah, no that’s okay, I can do it. Thank you for checking on this one--” he nudges Mina-- “Jungkook-ssi. See you ‘round, yeah? Oh, and, you said your parents aren’t here so if you ever get lonely or just wanna say hi you’re welcome to just pop round. We always have room for one more.”
“Um,” Jungkook flushes a little, “Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind.”

Since Jungkook has met the girls, he doesn’t feel as awkward going outside, and the day is nice so he decides to draw outside instead. The twins aren’t outside yet, but of course, as soon as he puts his earphones in and starts to sketch, they come barrelling out of the back door, dressed in matching purple outfits and talking to each other in what Jungkook is still sure is a secret language because he really can’t for the life of him understand.

They notice him sitting there though, and whisper to each other before tentatively creeping closer, stopping where the fence used to be for a moment. Jungkook carries on sketching, humming along to his music and pretending not to notice them. That is, until they finally reach where he’s sitting cross-legged on the grass and stand watching him, giggling.

He takes out his earphones and gives them a little smile. They take it as an invitation to jump on top of him, Mina on his lap and Minji bouncing off his shoulder. He just about manages to save his sketchbook in time.

“Whoa whoa, Mina, easy!”

She giggles and makes grabby hands at the sketchbook. He lowers it for her to see, but still keeps it just out of reach so she doesn’t accidentally tear or bend the pages.

“Oh, oh, that’s Appa!” Minji says excitedly, bouncing up and down.

Jungkook flushes. He hadn’t really been thinking when he started sketching it, and Yoongi’s face had just come to mind, and his features were so pretty and perfect to draw that he just… went with it.

“Are you Appa’s friend?” Mina asks, turning to look up at him with her cute big eyes.

“I wouldn’t say that--”

“Ohh! Appa’s friend!” she cuts him off, “Will you be our friend too? Please please please?”
“Uh, sure,” Jungkook laughs, and the two girls cheer and squeal excitedly.

Minji clambers onto Jungkook’s lap too, beside her sister, standing on Jungkook’s thigh uncomfortably as she leans in to Jungkook’s face. He, in turn, leans back a bit, but once she’s done inspecting him she just turns and sits down to whisper something to Mina. They both giggle and Jungkook just smiles.

Soon enough they’re up again, this time urging Jungkook to come with them, so he sets his sketchbook aside safely and joins them in what turns into a game of tag until Yoongi finally steps out of the house and joins them. His hair is messy and there’s bags under his slightly bloodshot eyes, but he smiles and he still looks adorable.

“Girls, what did I tell you about bothering Jungkook-ssi, hm?” he frowns, but Jungkook quickly dismisses him.

“It’s fine, honestly, I was having fun.”

“Appa Appa! Kookie was drawing yo--”

Jungkook quickly covers Minji’s mouth, laughing. Yoongi raises an eyebrow, corners of his lips pulling up.

“Kookie says he’s gon’ be our friend!” Mina announces proudly. “Can he come over? Oh, oh, Kookie wan’ see my dolls?”

“I--”

“No no I wanna show him my dolls!”

“No fair, I asked first!”

Jungkook glances at Yoongi who just looks done, save for the small fond smile still present on his lips.

“Mina, Minji, relax,” he cuts off their pointless arguing, “I’ll look at both of yours. If your Appa will let me?”

“I already told you my doors are open to you whenever.”

Jungkook grins.

“You look a little stressed, Yoongi-ssi, stay with us out here for a while?”

“You can call me Yoongi-hyung,” Yoongi says shyly, twisting his fingers, then pauses before adding, “Okay.”

The two girls start chasing each other around the garden again, and Yoongi shakes his head with a smile.

“I wish I had their energy.”

“God, me too,” Jungkook agrees. “Were you working?”

Yoongi rubs his nape. “Yeah, just been stuck on something for a while so been trying to get it done, haven’t really slept much. Hence this,” he gestures to his slightly disheveled appearance.

“What do you do?”

“I’m a music producer.”

Jungkook’s eyes widen. He opens his mouth to ask more but is interrupted by Mina suddenly appearing and grabbing onto his leg, looking up at him with pleading eyes.

“Will you braid my hair Kookie please please pleeeease?”

“What about me ?” Minji pouts, stomping her foot.

Yoongi laughs. “I’ll do yours, baby, go get your hair brushes.”

Minji instantly perks up and grabs Mina’s hand to pull her inside, yelling something about getting her doll too.

“So you’re a music producer?” Jungkook continues where they left off, “That’s honestly so cool!”

“Oh, thank you!” Yoongi’s cheeks colour a little behind his shy smile. “But yeah, this one track’s being a pain. What about you, Jungkookie?”
Jungkook tries his best to ignore the nickname, but it makes his heart flutter in his chest. “I’m a film major. Probably gonna get nowhere though,” he laughs nervously, scratching the back of his head.

“No, why do you say that?” Yoongi frowns, looking genuinely concerned. Jungkook’s touched, but, it’s also cute -- how his brows furrow and his lower lip juts out. He really needs to stop thinking like this, Yoongi’s probably married for all he knows (even if he's never seen a husband or wife around).

“Just, it’s a useless degree isn’t it? Not like I’m gonna become the next big director or something.”

Yoongi’s still frowning, but his girls come running back before he can reply, each of them clutching a doll and a hairbrush. Mina also has a ziploc bag full of cute hair clips and hair ties. She keep bouncing on the spot in front of him and Jungkook has to hold her down to get her to sit. She stays on the grass for approximately two seconds though before turing and climbing onto Jungkook’s lap.

Jungkook chuckles. “Mina, it’s a little hard to braid if you’re this close.”

She pouts, and this too reminds Jungkook of Yoongi, but she listens and shuffles forward just enough so Jungkook has room to comb through her hair.

“You know how to braid hair, right?”

“Of course,” Jungkook replies, “You think I have all this hair and never once learned to braid it?” He flips his hair, and Yoongi laughs.

“Fair point.”

Mina suddenly turns around again, jumping up to her feet. “Oh oh Kookie can I braid your hair sometime? Please? I’ll make it real pwetty with all my pwettiest butterfly clips!”

She pats Jungkook’s head and tugs at the wavy strands a bit, drawing out a laugh from him.

“Of course, Mina. I bet you’ll make me look super pretty.”

She beams and finally plops down in front of him again. Yoongi was already brushing Minji’s hair, smiling at the exchange going on beside him. Minji and Mina both in turn brush their dolls’ hair and start to braid it as Yoongi and Jungkook do theirs.

“So, college,” Yoongi starts again. “I don’t think any degree is really useless, especially not if you enjoy it.”

Jungkook hums.

“I started doing music at university, but I dropped out because of these two.” He smiles. “I didn’t go back in the end, and somehow it didn’t matter, I got a job anyway. Probably would have been easier with a complete degree, though. But my point is just enjoy it for now and don't worry about it. It's not like getting a degree can hurt your chances.”

Jungkook doesn’t reply for a time, just focuses on weaving Mina’s sleek black hair.

“Can I ask, where’s their mother?”

“Oh. She was my girlfriend back in uni, but we broke up, because… well, it doesn’t matter. Anyway, then she found out she was pregnant and she didn’t want an abortion, but didn’t want to keep them. I did, though,” he smiles, “I don’t speak to her much these days. She… didn’t really want to get to know them.” He whispers most of this, but luckily the twins are too engrossed in their dolls to pay attention to their conversation.

“Oh, I see.” He hesitates before asking, “Are you alone now?”

“I mean, I have them,” he chuckles. “But yeah.”

“Ah.”

Jungkook doesn’t know what else to say, so he just finishes up her hair.

“Hey, Mina,” he whispers, “You wanna come find some flowers to put in it?”

“Flowers? Real life flowers?!” she immediately grins, practically buzzing with excitement at that thought, but Minji hears too and whines that she wants to come too. Yoongi laughs and kisses her cheek.

“You can get some, too, sweetie. Come on.”

He stands up, grunting a little as he does and brushing off the grass and bugs from his sweats before offering his hand out to his daughter.

So the four of them go flower picking and put far too many in the two girls’ hair, and one behind Yoongi’s ear which makes him blush all shades of pretty. It only deepens when Jungkook tells him how pretty it looks, and Minji and Mina begin to whisper and giggle to each other again before looking mischievously between the two men.

Jungkook spends a surprising amount of time outside over the next few days; probably more than he has the entire past year. But when there’s two adorable little girls begging him to play with them, and their equally adorable father watching, he can’t exactly say no. Even when it begins to storm again, fat drops of rain hammering down on them, Mina and Minji still come outside, laughing and shrieking in the heavy shower. They pout and plead through the french doors of Jungkook’s living room, giving him puppy eyes and eventually he gives in and joins them. The rain has let up a bit, thankfully, but it’s humid and the heavy scent of petrichor embraces them. Yoongi isn’t as easily convinced as Jungkook, though, and just watches them playing fondly from his kitchen.

“Kookie do you like Appa?” Minji asks him in a whisper that’s so loud she might as well be shouting. She’s holding on to his leg and looking up at him with a cheeky grin. “Like, liiike like him?”

“What?” Jungkook laughs, electing to ignore how a blush begins to crawl up his neck.

Mina latches onto is hand and starts jumping excitedly.

“You look at him like Minji looks at Beomgyu!”

Minji hides behind Jungkook’s leg, clutching it tighter.

“Do not!” she retorts.

“Do too! ‘N Kookie has that look too!”

This time, it’s Jungkook’s turn to retaliate, but it’s two against one, and he knows they’re right. He laughs along with them and chances a glance at Yoongi, immediately flushing darker when he notices he’s looking at him , not at the two menaces attached to him. But he gives him a smile, and the twins giggle some more and it’s starting to sound evil. So he picks them up, one in each arm and spins around, all of them laughing even though they’re soaked through.

Yoongi gets a quote for the new fence in the next few days, but it’ll be another few before they’ll be able to put it up. Yoongi invites Jungkook over for dinner in one of those days, and Jungkook takes only half a second to think about the cup of ramen he was going to have otherwise before accepting.

Right before he’s about to head over, though, he starts to feel nervous, suddenly unsure of what he should wear and if he should bring something to contribute to dinner too. So far Yoongi’s always seen him in a t-shirt and sweats, which is pretty much all Jungkook ever wears, but now for some reason he feels like maybe he should dress up a little. He roots through his closet and eventually settles on a nicer top and jeans, but his hands grow clammy. He keeps blaming it all on anxiety again, nothing more. He doesn't have anything to offer either, but he finds a box of chocolates in the back of one cupboard that his mum keeps especially for last minute gifts, and he silently thanks her before taking it.

He knocks on the front door to be polite, rather than barging in through the back. He wipes his hands on his jeans as he waits, and only a few seconds later Yoongi yanks the door open, looking a little out of breath.

“Hey, Jungkook-ah,” he smiles and Jungkook feels himself melting. “Glad you came.”

“Of course! And um,” he offers Yoongi the box of chocolates, "These are for you."

Yoongi's mouth parts in surprise. "Oh! What for?"

Jungkook shrugs. "For inviting me?"

"Well, thank you," Yoongi smiles, "Come in, come in."

Yoongi leads him to the dining room and as he does, says, “Hope you like japchae, the girls wanted it, so."

“Japchae is great,” Jungkook assures him honestly.

Mina is placing little garnish leaves on the dishes when he walks in, tongue poked out in concentration, and Minji is holding a box of matches, looking at some candles. Yoongi’s eyes widen and he immediately starts forward.

“No! I’ll do that, thank you, Jiji.” He grabs the matches from her while she pouts, but her face perks up again when the candles are lit and placed in the centre of the table.

“Sorry,” Yoongi speaks to Jungkook this time, “I swear I don’t normally leave matches around near them, she just wanted candles tonight for some reason and I was about to light them when you arrived, so.”

Jungkook laughs. “Don’t worry, I trust your parenting skills.”

“Eat eat Kookie! Mina made it Mina made it!” Mina cuts in when she’s done meticulously garnishing the plates.

Smiling as he takes the seat Mina offers him, he replies, “Did you now?”

She nods enthusiastically.

“We let her think that,” Yoongi whispers to him, covering his mouth so she doesn’t see, and Jungkook laughs loudly.

The food is good, and Jungkook’s nerves dissipate in the fun atmosphere. The girls aren’t quite as hyper as they get when they’re outside, but they’re still cute and loud, and Mina especially incessantly asks Jungkook random questions which he does his best to answer.

“Will Kookie be staying with us now?” Minji asks Yoongi hopefully when they’ve finished eating.

“Oh oh!” Mina joins in, “He can join Mina’s bed! Kookie can stay in Mina’s room!”

“No, no,” Yoongi cuts in, chuckling and ruffling both of their hair, “Kookie has his own home. He’s welcome to stay if he wants, though?” Yoongi looks up at him, slightly unsure.

Jungkook smiles. “Maybe some time.” He crouches down to see level with Mina , then whispers, “I appreciate the offer but I think I’d like to stay in your Appa’s room if I do.”

He winks and the two girls squeal. When he looks up, Yoongi is blushing.

“Appa Appa he can be your special friend!”

“Kookie will you be our Appa too?”

“Isn’t it Eomma?”

“No no, Kookie isn’t a girl.”

“Whoa whoa,” Yoongi interrupts, waving his hands and Jungkook chuckles. “Slow down there, little ladies. Nobody is anybody’s special friend right now, and your only Appa is me, okay?”

The twins pout at him but he just chuckles and kisses their cheeks.

Jungkook hugs them both and Yoongi too before he leaves, lingering a little longer on Yoongi's. He promises the girls he'll play with them again soon when they pout and cling to his jeans, and then with a last smile at Yoongi he finally heads back next door.

The new fence is finally up a few days later, a sturdier one that won’t fall (hopefully) in the strong winds. Jungkook should be happy about finally having his privacy back, but instead he only feels lonely and sad. He knows Yoongi (and the girls) left an open invitation for him to visit or stay over, but he still feels too awkward to impose on them, so they don’t see each other for a couple of days.

That streak is broken by a knock on his door, Yoongi standing there cute as ever, twisting his fingers shyly.

“The girls made cookies and they want you to try them. Come over?”

He looks at him, hopeful, head slightly cocked to the side. It seems to Jungkook as though there’s more to the request than just cookies, but he buries that thought and nods.

“Kookie Kookie!” the girls immediately call upon his entrance, running up to hug his legs. He laughs and presses them closer affectionately.

“Cookies for Kookie!” Minji claps, beaming and Mina runs to present the plate to Jungkook.

The cookies are painted with pink and mint icing and covered with sprinkles. They’re cut into shapes ranging from butterflies to dinosaurs. Mina grins brightly behind the plate, clearly proud of their work, and it makes Jungkook smile. He takes one shaped like a cat’s head. The girls watch him intently until he takes a bite, and then stare some more until he tells them how good it is at which they break out into grins.

“Did they actually make these?” Jungkook whispers to Yoongi, chuckling.

“They did, actually,” he smiles fondly, watching Minji licking icing off her fingers. She's got it on her nose too, but they don't tell her yet, as in a matter of seconds she'll be coated in more anyway.

Jungkook takes another couple of cookies before he’s dragged upstairs by the twins, each of them pulling one hand until they get to their room where he’s pulled in both directions as they both try to show him their stuff first. Jungkook manages to convince them that he’ll look at them both at the same time, sitting in the middle of the room and waiting for them to bring their things. The room is cute, two identical beds on either side and flower stickers pasted on the walls, cute plushies strewn around the beds and floor. They show him their (frankly, impressive) collection of dolls and other toys and Jungkook does his best to remember all their names. They play with them for a while, making up elaborate stories for them and Jungkook plays along, even when his social battery completely drains and he just wants to go home, curl up and sleep for preferably a whole day or more.

Soon they switch to playing with his hair, though, and he just lets them. He doesn’t even know which one is on which side, but they’re both very focused on supposedly making him look pretty.

Yoongi comes upstairs right as they’re finishing, putting little colourful butterfly and flower clips in his hair to decorate the braids.

“I’m about to make dinner, if you want to stay, Kook-ah?” Yoongi asks.

“Oh! Um, yes, if that’s okay. I'd like that.”

Yoongi smiles. “I just said it was. Nice hair by the way.”

“I had some great stylists,” he replies, “You need help with dinner?”

Yoongi waves a hand dismissively. “No, no, don’t worry about it.”

“Ah, no I want to!” Jungkook jumps to his feet. “You guys don’t mind, right?” he asks the twins. They immediately shake their heads and start pushing him towards Yoongi, full of giggles. The two stay upstairs, playing in their room while Jungkook follows Yoongi downstairs.

Jungkook was never a big fan of cooking, but with Yoongi, it’s fun. He looks so cool in the kitchen, knowing his way around everything in a way that Jungkook doesn’t, still living off oven meals and ramen. He knows enough to help him though, and he oddly feels at ease, Yoongi humming beside him as he stirs the pot, faint sounds of high-pitched laughter coming from upstairs. He ends up just watching Yoongi when they're almost finished, just in awe of how pretty and cute he is, even when all he's doing is standing there with his little paw-print apron, stirring the food gently.

"What?" Yoongi asks finally, realising he's the object of Jungkook's gaze.

Jungkook ducks his head. "Nothing. I'll just, get the plates?"

Yoongi chuckles and points out which cupboard they're in.

They call the girls down to eat, and then they watch a movie together, and Jungkook really feels like he… belongs, with the way Mina curls up in his lap as they watch, and the way Yoongi sends him sweet smiles. It feels like home.

The girls have fallen asleep by the time the movie finishes, so Yoongi and Jungkook carefully carry them upstairs and tuck them in bed, Jungkook with Mina and Yoongi with Minji. Jungkook smiles as he pulls the blanket over her, pushing a strand of hair off her face. Yoongi comes to stand beside him, and Jungkook gives him room to plant a kiss on her forehead.

"Your hair really is cute," Yoongi giggles when they’re downstairs again, gently reaching out to touch one of the plaits.

Jungkook can't help but laugh too. "Next time, I'm gonna do yours, too."

"No no no," Yoongi refuses, "Definitely not."

"Aw, why?" Jungkook teases, "It'd look so pretty. We could make you into a fairy princess. Jiji and Na would back me up."

Yoongi laughs, cheeks faintly tinged pink. “They like you a lot,” he says, shy, picking at his nails subconsciously and avoiding eye contact. And then, “ I , like you a lot.”

He does look at him then, that gentle, pretty smile gracing his features.

“I’m sorry if it’s a little sudden or soon or--”

Jungkook doesn’t really think. He hears the words “I like you,” sees Yoongi’s pretty lips forming a little pout as he speaks and he just-- leans in.

Yoongi kisses him back easily, a hand coming up to rest against the side of his neck. He smiles when they pull apart, and Jungkook’s heart skips a beat.

“I like you too, hyung.”

“Stay the night?”

He wakes up to squeaky voices and a weight jumping on top of him, and he groans, cuddling into the warmth next to him. And then he realises where he is and what is happening and his eyelids fly open. Mina and Minji are jumping on them excitedly, squealing something he can’t decipher while beside him, Yoongi is pointedly screwing his eyes shut and ignoring them.

“Hey, girls,” Jungkook acknowledges them groggily.

“Kookie stayed with us!”

“Will you stay with us forever?”

“Can we have pancakes?”

“Oh Kookie will you make pancakes with us?”

“Pancakes with Kookie every morning!”

Jungkook chuckles and hugs Yoongi closer for a moment.

“What do you say, Yoongi, pancakes every morning with Kookie?”

Yoongi doesn’t open his eyes but smiles, giggling quietly.

“I dunno, that sounds pretty good to me,” he replies, words even deeper and even more slurred from sleep.

“That’s settled then.”

“Yay!” Mina and Minji cheer, and immediately start pulling at Jungkook’s arms to get him up.

He groans again through his laughter and bats them away, assuring them he’s coming. When they finally leave, he takes his time to admire the man next to him, brushing his hair out of his face with a smile. Yoongi finally blinks his eyes open and returns the smile.

“Better go join them before they come back. They’re waiting for you.”

Jungkook laughs. “You’ve gotta come, too.”

“Pancakes with Kookie, not Appa, remember?”

“Well, Kookie wants pancakes with Yoongi, so.”

Yoongi chuckles softly. “Fine. You go first, I’ll join you.”

“Good.” Jungkook kisses his forehead before finally getting up to freshen up.

He walks into the kitchen to Minji standing on a chair to try and reach the cupboard with the flour, and Mina is just holding a whisk and pretending to whisk something in the empty bowl she’s holding. Jungkook shakes his head and gets the flour for her, then gets the other ingredients too and places them on the table. The pancakes are pretty simple to make, so he lets the girls do most of the work, but starts heating up the pan for them, and then interferes with the measuring of the flour when Mina nearly spills half of the bag.

Yoongi joins them soon, as promised, and laughs at the sight of the three of them (and the table) covered in flour. He takes over where Jungkook was frying, and when it comes to flipping the pancake, he tosses it in the air impressively much to the twins’ delight.

When they’re all cooked and stacked on all their plates, the girls spray a monstrous tower of canned whipped cream on theirs and top that with chocolate sauce. Yoongi gets strawberries from the fridge and cuts a few onto their plates too, leaving the rest for him and Jungkook to take.

“Pancakes with Kookie are the best,” Mina exclaims happily, shoving another forkful of them into her mouth.

“They are,” Yoongi agrees. “But not every day.”

“Aww,” both girls whine, and Jungkook laughs.

He glances at Yoongi and notices a tiny smear of cream on the corner of his mouth, so he reaches out and wipes it gently with his thumb. Yoongi freezes in surprise, but then smiles in thanks. Minji and Mina, on the other hand, start singing “Kookie and Appa, sitting in a tree,” until Jungkook covers their mouths, laughing.

“Come over more, won’t you?” Yoongi asks when Jungkook is going back to his own house again. “Or, invite the girls over, I’m sure they’d love to.”

Jungkook nods quickly. “Of course!”

“When are your parents back?”

“Uh,” Jungkook rubs his nape, “Late next week.”

“Um, since you’re alone til then,” Yoongi bites his lip, “My bed is always open to you. If you want. Um. So you won’t have to be alone all the time?”

Jungkook kisses him.

“Thank you. I’ll take you up on that.”

He smiles, and then Yoongi pulls him down to kiss him again, deeper this time.
