Work Text:

"So, hyung, what are you doing now?"

Seokjin smiles softly as he looks over the conclusion of his essay.

"Still doing my essay," Seokjin replies, fiddling with his earpiece.

"Still?" Taehyung whines obnoxiously through the earpiece, and Seokjin half-regrets adjusting his earpiece so that his voice would come through clearer. "It's been literally three hours. I was leaving for Math when you said you were halfway through."

"Masterpieces take time, Tae," Seokjin says, sensing Taehyung's eye roll.

"Could you at least switch on the camera? I'm at break and there's nothing to do."

"It'd drain my battery-"

"My break is only half an hour, pretty please? I just want to watch you, plus you're at home."

Seokjin sighs, hits 'Save' on the document and picks up his phone from the bed.

He pulls up the app, scoffing when he sees Taehyung already has the camera on, and he's making his faces again. He switches on the front camera, props the phone up against the right bottom corner of the laptop screen.

"Hi, hyung!" Taehyung blubbers through his contorted expression.

"Hey," Seokjin says fondly, glancing down at him before going back to his essay.

Taehyung's humming as he explores more expressions is his music. Seokjin continues with his conclusion, relishing in the last sentence that he uses to end the whole thing. He stretches, catching Taehyung's attention.

"Done?"

Seokjin nods. "Just have to send it in," Seokjin sighs, rubbing at his eyes and Taehyung makes a noise.

"Wrinkles!" He yelps, waving at Seokjin furiously through the screen. "Not good for your eyes."

Seokjin sticks a tongue out at Taehyung's direction, eyes returning to the screen to type up his email.

"I really should figure out a way to have my earphones in in class," Taehyung muses as Seokjin hums in reply.

"Doesn't the teacher notice?" Seokjin finishes and shuts down, picking up the phone as he gets up from the desk.

"Exactly my point, hyung."

Seokjin raises an eyebrow. "Is that why you ended on me abruptly the last time?"

"I tried!" Taehyung pouts, flopping backwards and Seokjin loses the view of the sky behind Taehyung, sees a grey cement background instead.

"Taehyung, the roof is really dirty, you know. And your high school uniform is white. And you shouldn't be using phones in class."

"But you do!" Taehyung complains, ignores Seokjin and rolls over onto his stomach. Seokjin just winces for the uniform he has on. "Maybe I should get some kind of CIA level earpiece or something, not like yours, smaller than yours."

"I pay for myself, excuse you," Seokjin says, and Taehyung huffs, eyebrows furrowing together. Seokjin supposes it's a lot nicer, getting to see Taehyung do things rather than just hearing them like he does most of the time. "Plus, I'm in university, big difference."

"Using Skype in lectures is totally acceptable in uni, hyung."

"Well, I do it for you," Seokjin says, gets an indignant noise in respone as he drops his phone on the bed to put on his jacket. "Wait, I want to leave the apartment, no more video."

"Hyung," Taehyung whines again.

"I have to get a power bank, Tae," Seokjin explains as he leaves his building. "Being on Skype nearly sixteen hours a day drains my phone's battery when I'm out."

"Liar, I have class like eight hours a day so it's only eight hours."

"I have others to tal-"

"Hey!" Taehyung exclaims. "I thought I was the only one."

"No, Taehyung, I have more than one significant other," Seokjin says, his grin starting to hurt his face. It is always too easy to rile up this kid.

"I am totally gonna end this call on you," Taehyung grumbles.

"You wouldn't," Seokjin mock-gasps. Taehyung grumbles louder, and Seokjin can only smile.

Seokjin makes his way to the mall, the rustle of clothes from Taehyung's occasional shifting coming through.

"Green or white?" Seokjin asks, staring at the power banks displayed in the shop.

"Mmmm," Taehyung considers. "Latte or Macchiato."

"Macchiato," Seokjin replies, shaking his head. "Your way of choosing is so-"

"Smart," Taehyung says. "Average from a genius like me. Green it is. You can't ask me to choose between two favourites."

"I totally can," Seokjin argues, nodding politely as the cashier handles the transaction. "Dogs or cats?"

"Mario or me?"

"You," Seokjin's reply is instant and shocked silence is his music as he walks out of the shop.

There's eventually soft giggling, and then just a stream of unintelligble sentences apart from "I hate you so much" and "I can't believe you, am I supposed to be honoured?" is fired at Seokjin from Taehyung.

"You're such a softie," Seokjin says, and Taehyung sighs at him.

"I hate you so much," Taehyung rambles, and Seokjin's lips curl just barely. "My thirty minutes are almost up, I don't wanna go for class, why are you so attractive to me, old man."

"Go for class, dummy," When the cafe's cashier looks at Seokjin with shock, he points to his earpiece, sheepish smile in place. "Work hard this year and next year you can join me in Yonsei. Join the old man club."

"But hyung, I wanna continue talking." Seokjin accepts his drink, bowing briefly.

"Later," Seokjin says.

"You always say that! You never do!"

"Because you always end up calling me first-" Seokjin pauses. "Taehyung-ah."

"Hm?"

"The school still finishes at two on a Friday, right?"

"Yeah... wait are you coming to get me, are we going on a date, we haven't had one in a while, hyung, really?" Seokjin takes out his phone, opens the app and Taehyung's camera is still on. He's beaming, eyes wide with anticipation.

"No," Seokjin teases, and Taehyung pouts again, nose wrinkling.

"I hate you so much." Taehyung sighs, smile returning.

"Love you too, Tae, see you in three hours." Taehyung bites down on his bottom lip, smile shy at Seokjin's response. The screen switches back to Taehyung's profile picture.

The sound of Taehyung running down the stairs back to class and finally actually ending the call when he reaches the classroom door is Seokjin's music as he walks back home.
