Work Text:

“Now,” Suru yelled

Touya lit himself on fire for about the tenth time. He screamed in pain. Blisters were already on his body from his previous attempts. His flames were half blue and half orange.

“Make all the flames blue,” Suru yelled at him

“He’s hurting himself. Please make him stop,” Keigo pleaded

“Shut up brat,” Suru yelled and slapped him

“He’s hurting himself,” the 10 year old yelled

“He improving himself,” she corrected

Hawks was awoken by Suru senesi. Today was his test. This was his way out of this hell hole. He only had to defeat one person.

Suru was a tight lipped and stern woman. She was extremely strict and cruel. She had blonde hair that she always had in a extremely tight bun. Her lips were always pursed. Her hazel eyes had no warmth behind them.

After he got dress in his combat gear. He followed Suru senesi to the elevator. As they went down the floors neither of them said a word. As the the door open Hawks asked Suru sensei

“Who is my opponent?” Keigo asked

“Blueflame,” she answered while messing with her tablet

“What? Please, I don’t want to fight him he’s my friend,”

“To bad,” she said coldly “if you win you are released and you’ll start your own agency once you turn 18. If you lose you’ll fight one more time. If you lose you’ll be here one more year. Understand?”

“Yes sensei,” he sighed

Hawks put on the last of his gear right before he stepped out on the training grounds. He stepped out into the arena and stared down his friend.

Touya was a year and a half older. He was sent here a year later he was. Though without quirks he could beat him in hand to hand battle. Touya told him he received training before this. Keigo didn’t know anything else about his life before. Everyone was suppose to forget the past. It only held them back.

Keigo stood tall and confident across from his opponent. He locked away his conflicted emotions about fighting his friend back.

“Hawks are you ready,”

“Yes sensei,” he said

“Blueflame are you ready?”

“Yes,” Touya replied

“Ready. Set. Go!”

Keigo let his wings spread to their full length. He shot up to the sky and threw his feathers at him.

Touya set himself on fire. Orange and blue flames danced across his body. He burnt all of Hawks in coming feathers. He sent a fireball towards Keigo. The fire ball hit his feet and his arms. He couldn’t feel his legs.

“Aggg,” Hawks screamed and fell to the ground.

He could barley think of anything else, but of the throbbing in his arms. He felt like he was going to throw up, or pass out. Maybe both.

Tou- Blueflame ran towards him. Only his arms were on fire. Before Blueflame could get to close to him Hawks sent ten feathers and they went through parts of his limbs.

Hawks stumbled up. He was tired and in pain. He wouldn’t, couldn’t lose. He had to win. He spread his wings to their full length and rush towards Blueflame.

“You won’t defeat me,” Hawks scream at Blueflame

“I like to see you try,” Blueflame screamed coldly

Hawks sent more feathers towards his friend. Blueflame sent more fireballs. Hawks quickly dodge them. Hawks took to the sky.

As he fly higher into the sky he dodged more orange and blue fire balls. When he got about 200 feet high Hawks took a moment to survey the arena. It was about a 700 feet long as 300 wide. The many parts of the arena was on fire. In their own protected boxes judging them. He could see his friend. His shaggy red hair. His orange and blue flames that he was training to make completely blue.

Keigo took a deep breathe and swooped down at his friend in record speed. He hit Blueflame in the chest. This threw Blueflame 150 back and flew several feet high. He only stopped because he hit the wall. He heard several nasty crack. Blueflame stumbles up.

A gash on the right side of his head let a river of blood down his face. Hawks saw multiple cuts on his body. His face was twisted in pain.

Hawks felt bad. He didn’t want to harm his friend. All he wanted to do was get out of here.

“You,” Bluflame yelled “you won’t defeat me,”

“Then come at me!”

Blueflame ran towards Hawks. He set himself aflame. There was no orange in his flames. They were all blue.

A blast of fire hit Hawks’ left wings. This force Hawks to collapse to the ground. All his feathers on his left wing were burnt to a crips. The fire was so hot it almost felt cold.

Pain. All he could think about and feel was pain.

He tried to stand as Touya rushed towards him. He tried a few times a collapsed every

He eventually got up. Right before Touya could reach him Keigo threw a weak storm of feathers. About 15 or so.

A few struck Touya. Most didn’t. It didn’t do anything to slow him. He kept coming at him.

Blueflame was only 20 feet or so away from him. As a last ditch effort he threw a feather. The feather stacked him through the abdomen. His flames flickered on and off.

He slowed and slowed till he collapsed in front of Hawks.
Blood. So much blood.

It was all coming from Touya. It looked like he wasn’t breathing. Was he alived? Will he survive.

Hawks didn’t even feel the pain from his burns anymore. Those were replaced by the pain that he felt for his not breathing pain.

“Touya,” he screamed

He sanked to his knees and shook his friend.

The directors walked out into the arena and took Touya. They said something. He couldn’t hear them over the screaming in his head.

They were smiling. Why were they smiling. He just killed his friend. Touya wasn’t breathing.

Dread. All he could feel was dread. The burns? Didn’t even register. He couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t breathe. The world was going round and round. The blood pounded and pounded in his ears. His burned body shook. His vision became blurry. Black spots dance in his vision. He felt like his stomach was being shaken violently.

All he could hear were the directors. Their voices were muffled and distant. After some time, he couldn’t tell you if it 20 seconds or 10 years. He could hear them clearly. He couldn’t tell you what they were saying. The spinning became worse. Before he could register he was falling. His vision became black.

The light was blinding. It was bright. Too bright. Keigo open and closed his eyes before he got used to it. He was groggy. His mind was fuzzy. He could barley form any thoughts. Bluntly, he felt like shit. There was no other was to put it.

“What happen to Touya?” He asked the brunette nurse

Keigo was in an infirmity bed. He had an IV in his left arm. Most of his body was wrapped, most likely from the burns.

“Blueflame is alive,” she replied

“But is he ok,” Keigo asked

“He’s alive. That’s all that matters,” she said without looking from her tablet

“Why wouldn’t you just tell me,” Keigo yelled at her

She grabbed his chin and looked him directly in the eye “It. Doesn’t. Matter.” She spat

She let go of his chin and went back to tapping on her tablet.

“How am I’m supposed to believe that your telling the truth?” He asked

“We would not let one of our investments die. Highly damage yes but not dead,”

Keigo was going have to live with that. He knew he probably wasn’t going to see Touya. They might be telling the truth and he was at least alive. They might be lying and he was dead. All Keigo could do go on.

Hawks and Dabi were playing cards at Dabi’s place. It was after a prison break of a small tome villain. It was late and both of them were drunk as a skunk. Dabi was also smoking a cigarette. He offered Hawks one, but he refused.

“Your pretty,” Dabi slurred

“I am?” Hawks said

“Yeah,” Dabi said fondly

Keigo woke up at the hospital. He felt foggy. He felt numb. Why was he here?

Villains?

Oh Dabi.

No. Touya Todoroki.

Touya Todoroki was alive.

He’s been sleeping with his childhood friend who he thought was dead.

Who he thought he killed.

Oh.

Keigo drift back to sleep.

“Hi I’m Keigo. The Senseis call me Hawks though,” he introduce himself to the new kid

The new kid had shaggy white hair. He was a few inches taller than him. His eyes were a beautiful blue though because of his hair he could really see them. He gave off an edgy vibe. A don’t get near me vibe.

Keigo ignored that.

“Stay away from me little girl,” he snapped

“I’m not little or a girl,” Keigo puffed

“Sorry, how about annoying boy,”

“Your half way there and I can work with that. So what your name?”

“Touya,” he said “and the Senseis call me Blueflame,”

“Ooo that’s cool,”

“Do you ever shit up,”

“Nope!” Keigo cheered

“Your going to be my friend from now on and not leave me alone. Aren’t you?”

“Yup,” Keigo smiled “let me show you were we sleep. Than we can go and eat,”

Touya didn’t say anything, but followed Keigo anyways.

“Please,” Keigo begged his bunk mate

It was one am and Keigo was hungry. Who could blame him he was a growing 13 year old boy. He wanted to sneak out and get food, but what fun would it be if he did it alone? So he stood on his bunk and tried to awake the other boy.

“I want to sleep,” Touya complained

“You can go back to sleep after we get food,”

“You want food so you can get food,”

“That’s no fun though,” Keigo complain

“Ok I’ll go, but only to shut you up,”

“Yeah,” Keigo cheered and flutter around their room

Touya climbed down his bunk and rubbed his eyes.

“If we get caught I’m plucking out every one of your feathers. Got it birdbrain?”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever let’s go!”

They snicker out of their rooms and tip toe down the hall. They then found themselves in front of the kitchen. To their surprise it open with no problem.

“Yay!” Keigo yelled

“Shhh, we’re going to be caught, because of you, and I’m going to skin you,”

“Your no fun,” Keigo pouted

“Never claimed to be,” Touya contoured

Keigo ignored him in favor of forging through the fridge. He grabbed some left over food and closed the fridge.

“Can we go now,” Touya asked

“Yeah I got what I wanted,”

Keigo and Touya topped toed back to their room. Touya sighed in relief while Keigo stuffed his face with chicken.

“Your a cannibal,” Touya said dryly

“Hun,” Keigo said confused, and then started laughing “Ha. You do have a sense of humor.

“Ha. Ha,”

Hawks was straddling Dabi’s lap. He was kissing the fire using villain. Why was he doing this? Honestly, Hawks couldn’t tell you. One moment they were threatening/bantering each other in Dabi’s abandon wear house/house. In the next they were on Dabi’s bed kissing.

Ok kissing made it sound innocent. Like they weren’t only a couple of articles clothing from being naked. Like they weren’t marking nosies straight from a porno. Like they weren’t grinding on each other. Hard. Like the bruises on their necks weren’t from foreplay. Like Dabi’s hand wasn’t going down Hawk’s underwear.

“Ahh!” Hawks moaned into Dabi’s shoulder

Was it ok? They were both adults. Hawks was 22 going on 23 and he knew Dabi was around that aged. They both really wanted this if it was any indication of how hard Dabi was, and how much he was dripping. Was it wrong? He guessed. You really shouldn’t be sleeping with the person that you were trying to get info from. Eh, Hawks was ok with that.

Keigo was waking up at the hospital again. He still had the IV in his arm and this time he notice the machines beeping.

He still felt fuzzy. He was so tired.

He saw someone. His vision was to fuzzy to know who it was.

“Touya,” he whispered before drifting out of consciousness.

Again,” Suru sensei yelled at the 12 year olds

Keigo and Touya ran at each other again. They started fighting again. Touya was slightly better at hand to hand, but Keigo had better stamina.

After 10 or so minutes Suru called time.

“Pathetic.” She spat at them “ you guys are weak,”

They started to protest, but she shit them up with a glare.

“Again,” she yelled

The two started to go at it again. Suru only stoped it when both of them were bloody.

“Useless. Both of you,” she sighed

Both of the boys didn’t say anything. They were just panting.

“Go!” She yelled “don’t let me look at you two for another moment,”

“Yes Sensei,” they both replied

“I hate that bitch,” Keigo said after a few minutes of walking.

“She’s ok,” Touya said

“How can you say that?”

“She’s way better than my dad,”

“What happen wi-“ Keigo started but got cut off

“We can’t talk about our past,”

“But you just-“

“I know it was a mistake,” he sighed “c’mon we’ll be late for dinner.”

Keigo was 16. He was supposed to be in secondary school. Instead he was fighting 10 trained men. This was apart of his training.

Training. Training. Training.

Always.

He took down three almost immediately. Now 10 minutes later he took down 3 more.

4 left.

Keigo was tired. Not from fighting, but from not taking a day to rest since he was 8.

3 left.

What did his parents think of him?

2 left, no the other one got up. Still 3.

He knows Touya said he and the directors talked. His family was told he died last year. He wonder what his parents think.

1 left.

Hawks wanted to cry. He was tired and done.

He was the only one left standing. He relaxed till Suru said

“Again,”

“Get away from them!” Touya yelled

Keigo was awoken by his bunk mate nightmare. He climbed the ladder and shook his friend. Touya squirmed in his sleep until he sat straight up.

“Ow,” Keigo rubbed his forehead where Touya smacked into him

“Why are you in my bed?” Touya whispered

“You were yelling,” Keigo explained “I think you had a nightmare,”

“Oh. Sorry I woke you,”

“Are you ok? Your crying,”

“Yeah I’m fine, Touya whipped his face “go to bed,”

“Was it about your dad?”

“Go to bed it’s none of your business,” Touya whispered

“I can lay with you, or at least till you fall asleep,” Keigo offered

“Do what ever you want,” Touya fell back on the bed

Keigo layed down with him with his back to his’.

“You can talk to me if you want,”

“Thanks” is all Touya says before he goes to sleep.

The next night Touya pokes Keigo awake. It was late and it took Keigo a moment to register it was Touya.

“Yes?” He asked

“Can I lay with you,” Touya said quietly like he was embarrassed “it helped last night,”

This went on until they were 15. When they were 15 Touya finally talked about his nightmares.

“It’s about my dad,” Touya whispered one night

“Yeah,” Keigo whispered back

“I dream about him killing my family,”

“Is he a villain?” Keigo asked

“No just an asshole,” Touya says on the verge of tears, “I’m worried that when I leave I’ll find out that he killed my mom and my siblings,”

“Oh wow,” Keigo said out of shock. How were you supposed to respond to that?

“I don’t know why I’m so scared. It isn’t like I could have protected them while I was there. I’m weak,” Touya cried

“Your not weak,” Keigo said while hugging his friend “you very strong. When you get out of here I’ll help you take him down,”

“Really?” Touya said

“Yeah. Promise,”

For the third and last time Keigo woke up. No one was there that time. He was all alone.

He wasn’t as groggy this time. His mind less fuzzy.

Now he was alone with his thoughts.

He didn’t kill Touya. That was a good thing.

He felt like an idiot for not connecting the dots. They both had blue fire. Both of their quirks weren’t compatible with their bodies. Both had blue eyes.

He wanted to kill Endeavor now. He used to idolize Endeavor. Now though, oh god he wanted to kill him now that he knew Touya was a Todoroki.

Maybe he was in denial the whole time. He didn’t want Touya to be a villain. Maybe he didn’t want to be in love with his dead best friend.

Or he was just an idiot.

Or as Touya would put it, a Birdbrain.
