Lan Sizhui, Lan Jingyi, and Jin Rulan were seated in the middle of a large lecture hall preparing their notes before the tornado hit. Lan Wangji had no qualms about having his son and his two nephews in his university class but the four came to a silent agreement not to reveal the relation so that other students would not feel they had any sort of unfair advantage in the class. So, each and every day, the three students came and went to class without anyone knowing that Lan Sizhui went home with his professor or that the other two could often be found there on the weekends. That is, of course, until the tornado hit.
Lan Wangji, ever punctual, had his lecture slides pulled up by 10:59am and was opening his mouth to begin lecturing at exactly 11:00am. That is, until he was interrupted by the loud bang of his classroom door being slammed open.
“Don’t start yet!” Wei Wuxian screamed, running into the lecture hall with three coffee cups held in a cup holder. “You didn’t start yet right? I’m not late!”
The entire lecture hall startled, many recognizing the other university professor as he blasted into the room in a seemingly manic state. Lan Sizhui, Lan Jingyi, and Jin Rulan all simultaneously sunk down into their seats praying they would not be seen by Wei Wuxian.
“Here!” Wei Wuxian exclaimed as he lifted a coffee cup and placed it into Lan Wangji’s hands.
“Oh wait!” He said, reaching back out to take the cup back and slurp a sip of the contents. “Nope! That’s mine! Black coffee. You definitely don’t want that Lan Zhan. Here, green tea, just for you. I really tried to make it just before your class and surprise you with it because you and little A-Yuan were out of the house before I even woke up this morning.”
“Little A-Yuan?” Lan Jingyi whispered to Lan Sizhui, who was bright red and desperately trying to disappear on the spot.
“Mn. Very thoughtful, Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji said.
“Oh! And I have one for little A-Yuan! Where is he?” Wei Wuxian said, scanning the rows of students.
Lan Sizhui picked up his notebook in an attempt to cover half of his face but his father remained undeterred and immediately began to bound up the steps as soon as he was spotted.
“There you are!” Wei Wuxian called out.
Lan Sizhui could feel his eyes widen and his face become even redder as his tornado of a father climbed over a row of students to get to him.
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian yelled. “You didn’t tell me A-Ling and Jingyi were in this class too! No fair! You’re all hanging out without me.”
“Uncle! We are in class!” Jin Rulan muttered once Wei Wuxian stopped in front of the three.
“I know, I forgot you were all in this class!” Wei Wuxian said, very much missing the point. “A-Yuan, I got you a hot chocolate but make sure to share with your cousins! I would've gotten for everyone if I remembered!”
“Baba.” Lan Sizhui fervently whispered. “Papa is trying to teach!”
“Ok, ok.” Wei Wuxian conceded, putting his hands up. “I came just on time!”
The three boys gave him incredulous looks while the rest of the lecture continued to watch the scene play out in fascination.
“Alright, bye baby!” Wei Wuxian said, leaning forward to give Lan Sizhui a kiss on his head. “Bye A-Ling! Bye Jingyi!” Wei Wuxian pulled on Jin Rulan’s cheek and ruffled the hair on Lan Jingyi’s head.
“I am no longer related to him.” Jin Rulan muttered to Lan Sizhui.
Wei Wuxian bounded back down the steps and gave Lan Wangji a kiss on his cheek in front of the entire lecture hall.
Lan Sizhui noticed his Papa’s ears go red, the only indication that he was at all affected by his husband’s intrusion. Of course, Lan Sizhui knew his Papa was far more likely to have turned red from the kiss than from the giant scene Wei Wuxian just caused by interrupting his lecture.
“Ok, Lan Zhan have a good lecture! Hope you like the tea!”
“Mn, the tea is very good.” Lan Wangji replied serenely, as if 200 students were not sitting ready for his stalled lecture to begin.
“That’s because I added a tiny bit of honey to it! Things are always better when they are sweeter and-”
“Baba!” Lan Sizhui interrupted his father’s ramblings, knowing his Papa would indulge his Baba, even at the class’s expense. “Papa is starting lecture.”
“Ok, ok.” Wei Wuxian said with an exaggerated pout. “I’m leaving! I’m leaving!”
Wei Wuxian spun around and bolted back towards the door.
“Love you! See you two at home!” He called out as he finally exited the hall and slammed the door shut behind him.
The room was oddly silent for a moment in his wake, all of the students looking between three of their peers and their professor trying to make sense of the madness they just witnessed.
For a moment Lan Wangji met Lan Sizhui’s eyes, an understanding flowing between the two, even as Lan Sizhui could also recognize the unmistakable glint of amusement in his father’s eyes.
“Today we will be covering musical theory and how…” Lan Wangji picked back up with the start of his lecture as if nothing even happened.
In the middle of the hall Lan Sizhui, Lan Jingyi, and Jin Rulan began taking notes, taking turns sipping their shared cup of hot chocolate, and avoiding the questioning looks of their fellow classmates.
