Chapter 1: Surprise! (Part 1)

Chapter Text

Yugi Amane is a happy man.

He has the job that he’s always wanted, a science teacher who taught kids about his beloved stars, moon and space. He has an amazing, beautiful wife who loves him and makes the best homemade doughnuts and is the best thing that happened to him since space. He has three adorable children and a green pet parakeet that brings him his newspapers.

He is a very happy man indeed.

And tomorrow, was a very special day.

And Yugi Amane was sky high and as jumpy as a child before Christmas.

“It’s mine and Nene’s anniversary tomorrow!” He shouted happily into the phone speaker as he danced around the bedroom.

“Yeah, I know. Because you’ve told me this.. how many times now? One thousand?”

Amane shrugged. “I dunno!” He sang as he ran a hand through his messy brown hair and halted in front of the mirror atop their dresser, beaming from ear to ear and red faced. “But it’s our anniversary tomorrow!”

The person on the other line heaved a sigh. “God, you’re such a child Yugi-senpai.

   “Anniversary, anniversary, anniversary!”

Nothing could rain on Amane’s day. He was happy and he wasn’t going to let anyone ruin his mood. Not even his rude kouhai’s snarkiness.

“Yugi-senpai, please shut up and talk about something else?”

“No!” Amane squawked, his amber eyes blazing. “It’s our anniversary tomorrow and I’m happy!”

“Well, have you figured out what to get Radish-Senpai?”

Amane nodded happily, raising the phone to his lips. “I have,” he whispered suddenly, his tone low. “But you have to keep it a secret.”

   “Alright.”

“I’m getting her two cocker spaniel puppies!”

Amane smirked as a gasp sounded from the other end and a squeal followed.

  “Two.. Cocker Spaniel.. puppies?!”

“That’s right!” Amane laughed, placing the phone down onto the dresser and striding over to the closet, yanking the doors open and reaching in to grab one of his many turtlenecks. “Two cocker spaniel puppies, one chocolate colored one and one light brown one!”

  “Yugi-senpai are you insane?!”

“Maybe~” Amane hummed, slipping through turtleneck over his head and shrugging it on. “But I know that Nene will love it! She did love the parakeet I got her for Mother’s Day, didn’t she?”

   “Yugi-Senpai, you are absolutely crazy!”

“Hey, don’t be so rude to your senior!”

“I’m not being rude, I’m telling you the truth!”

“But Nene will love them!” Amane whined as he adjusted the turtleneck sleeves. “I just know it!”

   “Lunacy!”

   “Oh shut up, Mistuba!”

   “You’re crazy!”

“I know!” Amane laughed again. “But she married me.”

  “And sometimes I wonder why.”

Amane grabbed his glasses from atop the dresser and waved his hand dismissively. “Oh Mistuba, don’t say that~”

   “I’m going to say that!”

“So rude,” the science teacher sighed under his breath. Plastering the widest grin on his face, Amane finished adjusting his clothing and grabbed the phone again. “Okay, Mistuba, I’m gonna have to let you go now!” He sang. “Nene's waiting for her prince!”

The voice at the other end huffed, “Whatever.”

    “Mmhmm~”

  “Alright, alright.. happy anniversary.”

Amane chortled, “Thanks!” before hanging up and throwing his phone onto the bed and rushing out of the bedroom, ready to surprise his wife.

Yashiro Nene, now Yugi Nene, was humming happily as she bustled around the kitchen, smiling and preparing breakfast. Never would her younger self had thought that she would be here, married to the dorky space loving nerd that she met in middle school seventeen years ago, nor would she have ever guessed that they would have three kids together.

 But here she was.

Nene giggled, “Well, here I am!”

She moved to place the kettle on the stove, and that’s as far as she got before three laughing bouncing balls of joy rushed into the kitchen squealing, “Mama, mama!”

Nene laughed wiping her hands on the apron tied around her waist as she turned around to face her children. “Hey loves,” she greeted as the three children hugged her legs. “Good morning to you too!”

The eldest child, their seven year old son Sirius, giggled and let go of his mother’s legs, puffing out his cheeks before holding up a large paper heart to his mother, the other two daughters following in suit, beaming as they held up two bunches of flowers which Nene recognized from her garden.

 Smiling, Nene gasped, “What’s this?”

The three children smiled at each other before looking back up at their mother and shouting in unison, “Happy anniversary mama!”

Nene gushed and grabbed her children into her arms, hugging them tightly. “Aww, thank you!”

She let them go after a few moments, gently setting them back down onto the ground after kissing each one on the cheeks and ruffling their hair, taking the heart from her son and the flowers from her daughters placing them down onto the counter. “How lovely!”

The three toddlers beamed up at her, excited and happy that their mother liked their gifts. But there was still one more surprise that they had in store for both their mother and father.

“Where is Amane?” Nene sighed, fingering the moonstone ring on her left hand. “Did he forget—”

She trailed off with a squeal as two arms suddenly wrapped themselves around her waist and pulled her back into a chest, hugging her tightly.

   “Nene!”

   “AHH!”

The three children giggled and jumped up and down, waving their hands. “Dad, dad!”

Nene sighed in relief as her raspberry eyes met glittering amber ones. Her husband’s glittering amber ones. “Oh Amane..”

Amane grinned and dove in, pressing sloppy kisses to his wife’s cheeks. “Nene, my love!” He announced. “Happy anniversary!”

Nene’s cheeks flushed as her husband began to kiss her all over her face. “Amane!” She spluttered, trying to push his face away, shaking her head as he whined. “Amane, the kids!”

“They don’t mind,” Amane laughed, throwing winks at his kids. “Do you, my little stars?”

The children shook their heads, giggling. “No dad!”

Amane turned back to Nene, grinning widely. “See?”

   “Oh, Amane..”

   “Now gimme another kiss!”

As much as Nene loved her husband, she swore on her life that he was the biggest baby that she’s ever met, and the clingiest.

  “Amane—”

Too late, Amane had removed his hands from her waist and was now cupping her face, gently pecking her lips, still beaming.

“Shhh,” he murmured, “the best is yet to come, my Princess!”

Nene blinked confusedly, “The best? There’s more?”

Amane nodded happily, connecting their lips lovingly. “Mhm.”
