Chapter 1: Red

Chapter Text

Broken
No, torn
No, destroyed.
An obliterated sky.
Why is it so green?
And.. it's red.
Red. Red. Everything is red.
Red Lyrium. The People are red. Haven is red.
A face. A hideous face covered in red.
"..for I have seen the throne, and it was empty."
Red. Why is he red?
"No, no, you will not have Haven!"
White.

Startled by an ear shattering scream, Ana jolted awake stumbling out of her bed, her sight blurred by tears made it impossible to find the source of the scream. Sweat drenched her clothes and bed, hair stuck to her clammy face. Hearing stomping echo from below she whirled around to face the stairway. "Wh-"
SLAM
"Inquisitor?" Accompanied by footsteps, and another call, "Lady Lavellan? Are you alright?" Her guards familiar voice.
Clink. Tut. Clink. Tut. Clink.
More people.
"Inquisitor, is everything alright?" Cullen.
Oh.
"I- yes, Commander, everything is fine. Please, I didn't realize-" Her voice faltered, more stealthy tears escaped her.
"Please, leave us," a softer voice spoke from the stairs.
Nodding and double checking, the guards and Cullen bowed out of her room, unconvinced.
"I'm okay Josephine, It was just a nightmare," Ana spoke weakly, failing at the attempt to be reassuring, again.
The ambassador took careful steps to Ana, cautious not to make her flinch. She could see now that Josie was in her sleep attire, an eggshell silk robe to cover her matching gown, her hair settled in waves just past her shoulders. Nothing to cover her feet, with the scream Ana heard, she's surprised Josie grabbed anything to cover herself on the way up.
"Nightmares may be physically harmless, but it doesn't mean they can't take their toll, Anastasia," Josie made her way to Ana leading her to her bed, "Is this okay? Would you rather stand?" Ana responded with a silent "It's okay," her words failing at Josie's question. She took Ana's hand, careful her permission was granted. "Would you like to talk about it?" Her voice soft, gentle, her eyes filled with concern, everything about her demeanor sung gentle. Comfort. Love. Home. Safe.
"... I dreamt of Haven. Of Red Lyrium and the Red Templars. Of what happened in Redcliffe," she whispered, staring at their hands instead fearing what the ambassador's face will show. "I saw so much red, Josie. Lyrium and blood both. So much of it just.. everywhere. On faces we knew on strangers trying to kill us.. on Corypheus "
Soft lips were at Ana's forehead, their hands parted, but arms embraced her. "I am so thankful that we survived, that you survived, never forget that. But, Ana, I am so sorry for the burden it's cost you.." More kisses were planted on Ana's head along with a tight hug. They sat in a comfortable embrace, Josie's lips stayed at Ana's hairline, cooing soothing words until they drifted back to sleep.
Josie is red too.
Not harsh or angry.
But love.

Chapter 2: Pink

Summary:

Pink. Oh does she look lovely in Pink.
Date night between Inquisitor Lavellan and Josie.

Chapter Text

Pink.
Oh, she does look lovely in pink.
Pink lips. Pink dress. Pink shoes.

Nervous couldn't begin to describe how Ana felt. Curtains drawn slightly, candles lit her favorite, fire started, this night will be perfect. She needed it to be perfect, Josie deserves perfect. Ana paced her room, slamming her knee on the moved couch. "By the God's I--"
"Ana, my dear?" Josie sang, "Are you alright?"
"Wait!"Ana rushed, well- limped down the steps. Breathless. Pink. Stopping in her place she couldn't help but stare at her dear Josephine.. She wore her hair in a low loose braid, a slim pink dress, her cheeks flushed at Ana's gaze.
"I thought we may go somewhere, my dear, I wanted to surprise you.." Her face grew pinker, "Do say something, my love?"
"Josie.. I-" ignoring her hurt leg she stepped down the last few steps," you look.. stunning."
"Thank you, Ana," flashing a bright smile, a smile Ana couldn't help but drool over every time.
"Do I smell candles? What is that?"
"Er-- it's nothing! Let's go out, Jo--" squinting at Ana, Josie ignored her lie and continued up the stares. "Ana! It's beautiful.. and Pink," she giggled.
"You like pink.. plus it's a beautiful color on you."
"You were going to have me go out when you have this set up? One moment," she kicked off her heels and fled down the stairway into the hall. Ana couldn't hear the distant whispers, unsure if she should interrupt she opted for the balcony.
Pip pip pip.
Gentle arms snaked around her, "It looks so beautiful Ana," a kiss on her shoulder, "it must have took forever to put together."
"All for my beautiful Josie," Ana turned to face her, "What have I done to deserve you?" Leaning in and planting kisses along Josie's jaw, "Perfection." Placing a few more along her neck, "You smell like Lavender!"
"Do you like it?" Josie giggled.
"Mmmhm," a few more kisses on her collarbone.
"E-hem," an obvious fake cough voiced from the doorway.
"Oh! Jim, I'm sorry, I nearly forgot. Just place it in the open, near the railing." Ana placed one more kiss on Josie's cheek before looking to see what they were talking about.
Several guards had walked by, carrying a round table and two chairs, following them were servants carrying plates and a bottle of wine.
"That smells delicious, too!" Ana grinned, earning a playful smack from Josie.
"Thank you so much," Ana called as they walked down the steps and out the door. She was heading for the table pulling a chair out for her love, "My lady?" When Josie sat, the elf kissed her cheek.
Sitting down herself, she finally caught sight of the beautiful dish in front of her.
"Josie.. I- how??"
"I had to ask for tweaks in the recipe, but it's similar to what you said was your favorite.."
"Thank you.. the fish alone is so rare, Josie, I can't imagine what it took to get this together."
"Anything for you, my dear," Josie smiled Ana's favorite smile. "Please, try it, I'll pour us some wine."

Notes:

I wrote this several years ago and just recently found it, the series isn't finished but i really enjoy two of the works. the order of colors in this series may change.
