Chapter Text

Yato has always been scared of being forgotten, especially by his first and faithful follower: Hiyori Iki.

He couldn't stop thinking about it, some nights he lay awake, sweating as his mind raced, the idea that Hiyori could forget him at any moment was just unbearable.

He couldn't sit around afraid and shaking in fear any longer, so he decided to come to pick Hiyori up from school today, hoping that he would get the chance to let it all out.

Yato leaned on the walls beside the school's gate, he watched as the students walked out in pairs, groups, or alone, he was keeping an eye out for one particular girl...

And then he spotted her, among the crowd, talking to her friends, he shouted over and waved his hands in the air to gain her attention, the other students didn't even glance at him despite him being very loud, but a head turned towards his direction, the girl turned back to her friends for a moment before walking towards him.

"Hi Yato, what are you doing here?" Hiyori asked as she glanced around, no one seemed to have noticed them.

"I just feel like picking you up today, that's all," Yato said with his usual cheerful voice.

They walked for a while, Yato constantly glanced at Hiyori, he looked away every time as the disturbing thought came slipping into his mind, the reason he came here was to talk about it... But it seemed like he didn't have the guts to open his mouth and say it either.

Hiyori glanced at him before stopping in her path.

"Hiyori? Is something wrong?" Yato asked when he turned around with a worried expression.

"I should be the one who asks that question to you Yato, are you alright? You keep sending glances at me" The girl said, Yato knew that sooner or later she would notice.

He took a deep breath before answering, "I... I've been... Wanting to tell you something..."

Hiyori tilted her head, she was frowning curiously, "Oh? Wh-what is it?" Her voice quivered as if she already had an idea about what he has to say.

"I...." Yato swallowed, looking at the ground, almost looking ashamed, "I'm... Scared... That you would forget me.." He said in a low voice, "I just... Couldn't stop thinking about it..."

Hiyori sighed, she looked... Relieved? "Yato, I thought it was something more serious, I already promised, didn't I? That I won't forget you, don't worry!"

Yato pursed his lips as it suddenly went dry, "I know... But..."

Suddenly, he felt something grabbed his hands, it was Hiyori, she was smiling as she holds his hands, "What would it take for you to be convinced?"

Yato saw a light blush on Hiyori's cheeks and he started to feel the heat on his own cheeks too, he swallowed the nervousness back down his throat before uttering what was on his mind, "C-can I... Be with you longer? Just to make sure that you... Wouldn't forget?"

Hiyori giggled, "Is this a plan for you to have a reason to stalk me?"

Yato's eyes widen, "What? No?"

"Because it seems like it"

"No, it's not!" He pulled his hands away.

Hiyori stepped forward and grabbed his hands again, still smiling brightly up at him.

"Yato, I promise, that I would never, ever forget you"
