“Why are you here?”
Outside of Klavier Gavin’s expensive two-storey house, Apollo Justice stands on the front steps with a concerned expression plastered on his face. He stares at Klavier, who is in terrible shape. His hair is no longer in his signature drill style, his eyebags are more visible than ever before, and he is slouching against his doorway
“Oh I just came to check up on you after that mess of a trial we had like almost a month ago”.
“Did Herr Wright put you up to this?”
“No, I came here on my own accord because I was worried.”
“The great Apollo Justice? Worried about little old me? That’s a new one. I appreciate the concern though, but I’m okay, I just had a rough morning.”
Klavier moves to close the door in Apollo’s face.
Apollo stops the door with his foot just in time.
“Oh come on, don’t be like that, Gavin. You’ve lost your band, your best friend, and the only family you’ve had, all in less than a year. I thought you must’ve been feeling lonely so I came here to keep you company even just for a little while. Now, can you please let me in?”
Klavier thinks this through for a moment before he reluctantly lets Apollo in.
“Alright, make yourself at home. Sorry about the mess”, Klavier says as he walks into the living room and flops onto his couch.
Apollo looks around and takes in the atmosphere. The living room is a total mess. The cushions have been thrown around both on the floor and on the couches. The blankets have been bunched up and thrown aside. Some of the family portraits Klavier has put up on his grandiose fireplace have been turned upside down.
Apollo goes to sit opposite to Klavier.
“I gotta say, this sure is one of the fanciest living rooms I’ve ever seen, even if it’s a little messy”.
Apollo attempts to start a casual conversation, away from anything to do with the Gavinners, Daryan, and Kristoph. Klavier only grunts in response, and stares blankly ahead at nothing in particular.
Apollo sighs deeply and leans forward slightly.
“Look, Gavin, It isn’t just me who is worried about you, everyone is. Believe it or not, the Wrights and even Ema are worried about you too. I may not know how far did Kristoph go to manipulate you but just know that it wasn’t your fault that Mr. Wright lost his job all those years ago. Your brother orchestrated everything right down to the smallest detail.”
Klavier sits up slightly and stares doubtfully at Apollo.
“Mr. Justice, I’m well aware of everything that you had just said. However, I just don’t think I deserve to be worried over like that, not after what I did to the Wrights. Now, if this is all you came to talk to me about, I would like for you to leave me alone”.
At this point, Apollo is fed up with his dismissiveness and pulls out his phone.
“Alright, Prosecutor Klavier Gavin, if you don’t get it together at least a little bit, I will call both of the Wrights here, which will no doubt make your guilt feel ten times worse, but I won’t because I am surprisingly patient, believe it or not. I am here in your house not as a colleague, but as your friend, and I can’t stand it when I see you blaming yourself like that when it’s clearly your brother’s fault for manipulating you in the first place. I don’t care about the fact that you were the prosecutor in that trial, that doesn’t matter right now. What I’m saying is that maybe if you didn’t say anything about the origins of that evidence, it would’ve flew right under the radar but you couldn’t because Kristoph had your entire livelihood hanging by a goddamn thread. That asshole weaseled his way into our justice system by manipulating others through blackmail. So, the next time you blame yourself for the loss of Mr.Wright’s career, think about how Vera must feel when she created that evidence. Maybe then you’ll find some common ground”.
At this point, Klavier is completely speechless. He stares at Apollo with his mouth gaping and blinks slowly. After a moment, Klavier finally speaks.
“Wow...that was...a lot to take in, Herr Forehead…”.
Apollo flashes a triumphant smirk at him.“So, are we finally on the same page now?”.
Klavier nods. “Yes, yes we are. You’ve really opened my eyes. But, now it just looks like I was being selfish-”.
Apollo stops him before he starts to self deprecate again. “Gavin, you weren’t being selfish, you just needed to look at that case from a different point of view other than yours”. Apollo stands up and goes to sit next to Klavier. “Anyway, are you feeling better now?”
“Yeah, I guess I just needed a reality check or something. Thanks for that pep talk, Apollo”, Klavier flashes a small smile at him.
Apollo is a little caught off guard but quickly regains himself. Apollo flashes a smile back.
“Anytime, Klavier. Now, how about we start cleaning your house because this place is a fucking mess”, Apollo stands up, shrugs off his jacket and rolls up his sleeves.
Klavier peels himself off of the couch and stretches for a little bit before slipping on some slippers. He then directs Apollo to where the cleaning supplies are, with Apollo following him not too far behind.
“Be careful when you’re cleaning my guitars. I think I’ve already mentioned this before but I treat them-”
“Like they’re your lovers? Oh, don’t worry I didn’t forget about that”.
“Good”.
Despite all the things he’s gone through, the old Klavier Gavin is slowly coming back little by little. Even though Kristoph, Daryan, and the Gavinners are all gone now, Klavier will try his best to forge stronger ties with the friends he’s already made, make amends with those he has indirectly hurt, and unlearn all of the blaming and self deprecation that his brother’s actions had left him with, but that’s all for another time. Right now, he desperately needs to clean his house, and what better way to do it than with a friend?
