Work Text:
“For you!” Jungkook extends his arm towards him, a cute, wine colored, paper shopping bag hanging from his fingers.
Taehyung blinked from where he sat on the couch, slowly closing his book.
“What would that be, Jungkookie?”
“Okay so, you know how whenever you hug me you say I smell great?”
“Um, yes.” Taehyung smiled widely at his roommate, noticing how his cheeks began to gain the slightest tinge of color. He did always say that, and Jungkook made sure to return the compliment every time.
“And remember when I told you that i have this specific shop I buy shower gel and soap from?”
Taehyung could feel his smile drop.
“Yes, I do.”
“I bought you this. As a gift. From that shop.” Jungkook moved his hand a bit, the contents of the bag rattling. “I picked different ones, though. Thought you would like these better than the ones i use for myself.”
With both hands, Taehyung reached for the bag, already feeling how disastrous that whole situation was. He looked at the contents, inching his head a bit closer to the them and it hit him. Everything smelled great, like flowers and strawberry fields, all the scents mixing together wonderfully. Scents.
And really, Taehyung loved smells. He was quite sensitive to them, and really appreciated things with pleasant scents. But how was he supposed to deal with that?
He swallowed dryly, wondering how he could begin to explain.
“Do you… like it?” Jungkook’s voice came soft, and Taehyung’s head snapped up so his eyes could meet the younger’s. He was met with a flushed face and his friend’s bottom lip being bitten in sheer nervousness.
And he was so, so cute. So adorable Taehyung couldn’t possibly deal with it. Jungkook, with his soft cheeks, big eyes and what was a perfect personality in Taehyung’s opinion. It was absolutely ridiculous.
Taehyung’s hands closed tight around the handle of the shopping bag as he inhaled a breath too sharp to be considered calm. Jungkook had gone out of his way to buy him something he thought Taehyung would appreciate, and Taehyung had never felt his heart so warm.
It might have something to do with his undeniable feelings for the younger, but still.
Was he expected not to cry?
“Tae?” Was all Jungkook could say before he found himself with an armful of Taehyung. A crying Taehyung.
“Thank you so much Jungkookie.” He mumbled against the younger’s neck.
“You’re welcome.”
“I’m so sorry.” He couldn’t stop crying, it was ridiculous. They were only a few tears, but it felt embarrassing enough for him.
“Tae, what?”
“You’re so precious.” It was true.
“Wait, hold on, what are you sorry for?”
Hearing that, the older boy sniffled and broke the embrace, trying his best to keep the tears at bay.
Jungkook didn’t let Taehyung keep a distance, though, his hands securely kept around his waist, purely for comfort.
“Jungkookie, I loved the present. I really did. And it was so nice of you to give me a gift.”
“But?” Of course Jungkook would know there was a “but” to it.
“But I can’t use these.”
“You can’t use… soap?” The younger’s head moved to the side in confusion, a cute mannerism of his that Taehyung absolutely adored. But then again, he adored everything Jungkook did.
“Scented products.”
“Oh.” Jungkook’s eyes went a bit wide, and Taehyung could see the gears in his brain turning. “Is it an allergy?”
“Yes.” He faced the floor. “I don’t sneeze much because of scents unless they’re really strong but on my skin it’s worse.”
“How come?”
“I have atopic dermatitis.”
“Am I dumb for not knowing what that is?” Jungkook smiled bashfully, and Taehyung felt his heart burst.
“It’s a skin condition, basically. My skin is dry and many things can trigger rashes. Especially things I’m allergic to.”
“And scents give you rashes, wow.”
“Yes.” Taehyung looked down and held onto his friend’s bicep with his left hand, simply to try to comfort himself. “I’m sorry I won’t be able to use these.” He shook the bag a bit, making clear what he was talking about.
“Tae, stop, don’t say sorry. This is not at all your fault.”
“I wish I could use them, just for the record. And you picked flowery smells, I love those.”
With a pout, he stared back up at Jungkook, who smiled at him brightly, as if nothing was wrong.
“Then I’ll use them. Maybe it will make you hug me more.”
Taehyung just stared for a moment. Stared and analyzed Jungkook briefly, finding fondness dripping from every pore on his face, eyes sparkling as if Taehyung were the sun itself. And he knew.
Slowly, he moved his arms up, wrapping them around Jungkook’s shoulders delicately, while looking into his eyes. They stood in the middle of the living room in silence for a moment, basking in the afternoon warmth as their chests met.
And it was actually a bit crazy how easy it was for Taehyung to lean closer and press his lips to Jungkook’s. Softly, slowly, they kissed, their breaths coming deep and mingling together.
Jungkook let out a sigh when their lips split apart, their foreheads remaining connected along with the rest of their bodies. Taehyung kept his eyes closed, just enjoying the warmth and the feeling of bliss.
“I have been meaning to do that.” Jungkook says, his voice a little deeper than usual. Taehyung smiled and heard the other breathe in as he dipped down to nuzzle at his neck.
“Me too, Jungkookie.”
“Tae, can we do this again?”
With a smile on his lips, Taehyung nods, and he feels the younger smile against his skin.
“I just wonder how you smell so good without scented products, this is unfair.”
And if Taehyung had a laughing fit, it’s no one’s business but theirs.
