Tony Stark never wanted kids too scared he'd end up like Howard. He drank to numb the pain, he was angry when it wouldn't work, and he yelled when he got scared. Who knew some Spider-Kid from Queens that worked his way into Tony's heart would make him realize he was nothing like Howard.
