Chapter Text
Kaito smirked, throwing the stolen jewel up in the air before catching it and holding it up to moonlight. He sighed, pocketing the jewel and pouting, this one was not Pandora either (not that the last hundred-something jewels he stole were either) but putting aside his disappointment for now, today's heist was kinda strange.
His Meitantei was – obviously – present but the surprising fact was that tantei-san and tantei-han were also present – which was to say rare because despite all of them going to the same University the other two detectives chose to ignore his notes, and heists unlike Shinichi (who was diligent; unless he encountered a case) and didn't really involve themselves with his night time persona (rude, considering the invitations he sent them).
(He had asked Hattori once, and the Osakan detective had deadpanned that he was tired of getting the glitter out of his hair. Hakuba's reply had been the same)
So that made him a little curious about their reason for suddenly coming together beccause the only reason he can think of at the top of his head was the prank that he played on them yesterday by temporarily dying their hair (blue really suited Shinichi) which was hilarious, but albeit harmless, and not enough to warrant their visit.
But the the one thing that left him baffled was that the two detectives did not even bother to chase him, and instead seemed like they were observing their surroundings. Shinichi was the only one who was chasing him, and even he looked as if his mind was anywhere but here. But that was not all, halfway through the chase, Shinichi had received a phone call, and had therefore also dropped out of the race thus leaving him with the task force only.
So, he had the right to feel ticked off.
Because you did not just come to Kaitou Kid's heist and not not attend it. His heists were fascinating, and he always ensured that it left every critic speechless. Even more so, if his audience included his dear Meitantei, because Shinichi was able to pick apart every single one of his tricks with that annoying (but hot) smirk plastered on his face, and it made the challenge even more fun, and exhilarating.
So, in conclusion he did not like being ignored by his detectives, not one bit. And well, if he teased or pranked the task force a bit too much today, it had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he was sulking or being petty – no, absolutely not. No one had the the proof. So, there.
He sighed, feeling a bit dejected as he kicked a small piece of rock lying on the sidewalk. Because he hadn't really been able to see his lover all that much for the past few weeks. He knew that Shinichi was busy with a difficult case and got home really late because it was already morning by the time he heard the door to their bedroom creak, and then he felt warm lips on his forehead before he was gone again.
Even when they met for lunch, Shinichi usually looked tired and he could see the eye bags starting to form under his eyes. Even though Shinichi said that he was fine, he knew that his detective was overworking himself, and was not getting the required amount of sleep. Again. And that he had to take the matters into his own hands. Again.
He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't pay much closer attention to his surroundings, so when someone suddenly crashed into his back, his breath was quite literally knocked out of him and he was sent hurtling towards the ground.
"Ow, ow, ow..." Kaito rubbed his now throbbing forehead which had quite a uneventful meeting with the ground as he winced in pain, blinking back tears. After standing up, and brushing the dust off of himself, he turned to glare at the person who had quite literally knocked the living daylight out of him, but before he could say anything he froze when he took in the appearance of the other person.
The other man was really well built, wearing a three piece suit with his jet black hair pushed back, and he would have probably been considered attractive by anyone's standard but the easy, and apologetic smile on his face had just rubbed him the wrong way. His posture, and the air around was supposed to be non-threatening and harmless but it just made him all the more cautious.
What he could summarize about the strange person in a few seconds was that:
1) The person standing in front of him was tall, like really tall.
2) He could quite possibly crush Kaito with his hands easily.
3) The way he was shamelessly trying to size Kaito up was unpleasant.
" What?" Kaito growled with a bit more bite than necessary, subtly taking a step back and pulling up his defences.
" Ah, sorry," the stranger apologized with that same unsettling smile, even if he sounded anything but sorry. "You were so pretty that I couldn't help myself." the man said with so much sincerity that Kaito would have actually considered believing him had he not been a master of disguise and deception.
" And I would also like to apologize for bumping into you. Are you alright?" the man asked, worry lacing his tone as deep brown eyes stared into indigo ones and Kaito barely suppressed a shudder at the pure intent behind those eyes.
" I am fine," replied Kaito, wanting nothing more than to finish this conversation right then and there, and get out of here because he was starting to get chills up his spine – which he wasn't sure was because of the cold or something else – Thankfully, there was quite a crowd surrounding them, so he wasn't too worried about something happening. "I have to go now." With that Kaito twisted around and started walking away, not daring looking back.
Even if there were people around them he absolutely did not want to take any risks.
Kaito hugged his jacket tighter, suddenly feeling quite cold.
Kaito sneezed, shivering he put his gloved hands in his pockets before burying his red nose in the warm muffler, and coming to a stop in front of the cafe he regularly visited.
Their hot chocolate was practically heaven, topped with whipped cream and marshmallows, it was his absolute favorite. It was his daily ritual to get a nice cup of hot chocolate before going to University or home, and cuddling with Shinichi (despite his stoic, calm, and collected persona, Shinichi was quite clingy and gave the best cuddles, especially when he wraps his around his waist and peppers his face with small kisses).
Kaito entered the cafe, letting the delicious mouth-watering aroma engulf him as he let himself automatically relax in the warm place. Just as his order had been taken by a nervous, and stuttering (probably new) girl – whom he had a given a pink rose, accompanied by a smile that left her blushing – his phone started ringing.
Taking his phone out of his pocket Kaito made his way towards an empty table, blinking a bit in surprise before receiving the incoming call from Shinichi, and settling down in a seat near the window.
" Hello, Shin-chan~!" Kaito chirped as a greeting.
' Can you not call me Shin-chan?'
" Rude," Kaito pouted. "You didn't even greet me." He propped his elbow on the table and placed his chin on his palm, a smile unconsciously forming on his lips upon hearing his lover's voice.
' Yeah, yeah,' Kaito could literally see him rolling his eyes right now, and he would have started pestering him about the heist had he not noticed how tired the other sounded at the moment. He frowned, displeased by the fact that Shinichi was neglecting his health and still working on the case. He narrowed his eyes, seriously considering dragging his lover out of the TMPD and putting him to slee—
' Where are you right now?'
Kaito blinked when his plans of knocking out his detective was interrupted by the sudden question. "Getting some hot chocolate, want some?" Well, he had plenty of time to set up a plan.
'Ugh... No way. With the amount of sugar you put in? No thanks, I don't want to get diabetes.'
" Yeah, and I don't want to hear that coming from 'Mr. pure black coffee and no sugar'." Kaito retaliated, scrunching up his nose in disgust, he had tried it once from Shinichi's mug and let's just say that he never wants to be near that stuff ever again.
Shinichi laughed and Kaito could feel his lips quirk up in a fond smile. He loved the way how Shinichi laughed genuinely. It was a rare occurrence but Kaito had the pleasure to be there for most of them (or the cause for most of them). "Why are you asking though?" Kaito questioned before a teasing smirk found a place on his lips. "Are you worried?"
' Of course, I am always worried about you because you are so beautiful.'
The absolutely honest answer to his teasing question left him a bit flustered, and he could feel the heat rising in his cheeks. Sometimes, Shinichi was just so embarrassingly sincere and stated these things like they were so obvious that Kaito would seriously consider if it was possible to die from blushing too much.
" O-oh, okay," Kaito stammered, face flushing as he mentally berated himself up for the obvious stuttering that Shinichi would not miss.
' Are you blushing?' And, he found out. Not that he expected anything less. But he could hope.
" Ugh... Shut up. It's your fault, you know? How can you just say these embarrassing things so easily?"
' You are the Kaitou Kid and, I say embarrassing stuff? Mr. Magician under the Moonlight?'
" This and that are different though..." He muttered, a pout forming on his lips.
' Yeah sure,' Kaito could literally hear him smirking through the phone, and he had a not-so-good feeling about it. 'When are you coming home, babe?' And, bad feeling confirmed. He slided a hand down at his steadily growing red face, melting a little in his seat at the pet name (one of many) that Shinichi loved to give him just to see his reaction.
" Around ten minutes..." Kaito replied awkwardly, rubbing his neck in embarrassment as he got up and made his way towards the counter to receive his order when his name was called.
' Just–' Kaito blinked when he heard the other hesitating for a few seconds before continuing. 'Just be careful okay? There... there has been quite a bad case going on around here. So just – take care of yourself – Okay? Because you tend to attract weird and dangerous people, and trouble for yourself.'
" I don't want to hear that coming from you," Kaito scoffed as he picked up his order, giving the cashier a smile before stepping out of the cafe and crinkling his nose in displeasure when the cold air hit him in the face directly. He really wasn't fond of the cold weather. "You do know who I am, right?"
' Of course I do, that's why I am saying this.'
" Fine, I'll try to be more careful, happy?" Kaito sighed in exasperation, sometimes, his boyfriend just worried too much. Taking a sip from his cup of hot chocolate he sighed blissfully, as always, it was so good.
' Why yes, I am,'
' Oh, and one more thing,' Kaito winced when the background noise from the other end started getting louder, and a voice that sounded suspiciously like the western detective was yelling at Shinichi to just stop flirting and get back there. 'I love you.'
Kaito barely saved his cup from falling to the ground, his mouth hanging open, and his face bright red because of the sudden confession. He mentally whined, his detective was so unfair and ruthless with his attacks. "I-I love you too..." He mumbled softly, and judging from the pleased hum coming from the other end Shinichi had heard it. "Oh, and also for the love of God get some sleep." Kaito glared at nothing in particular, his cheeks still dusting pink. "Otherwise, I am going to spray you with sleeping gas or sick Ran-chan on you. Pick one."
' Okay, okay, I get it. Just don't do either of those.' Kaito could hear the pain in his voice because he knew that Shinichi had already experienced both options and probably didn't want to go through them again. 'See you later, Hattori is going to yell my ears off if I don't get back soon.' And sure enough he could hear the Osakan yelling in the background for Shinichi to hurry up, and get his ass back there.
" See you later Shin-chan~"
' Can you stop calling me that?'
" Nope."
Shinichi sighed, closing the door behind him as he took off his shoes and lined them up before shrugging off his coat, and hanging it up.
Judging by the shoes at the front door and the utter quietness in the house Kaito had already gone to sleep. It was already half past midnight, so no surprise there. He pinched the bridge of nose, willing himself to stay awake as he made his way towards the library to drop off his case files, and also to do some research regarding the case. A cup or two of coffee were probably enough to keep him awake.
He also had a class early in the morning, so the least he could get was an hour worth of sleep. He knew that he had told Kaito that he would sleep but this case was really important, and he just wanted a lead so badly. This case made him sick to the stomach and he couldn't find it in himself to ignore it. Not when it could possibly endanger his lover.
Shinichi sighed, Inspector Megure had told him that he was overworking himself (again) and had practically shooed him out when he found that Shinichi had a class (because Hattori couldn't keep his mouth shut) with strict orders to sleep. Thank god he was allowed to take the case files home though.
While making his way towards the library, he passed by his bedroom and stopped, hesitating for a few seconds as his resolve wavered.
Well, It really wouldn't hurt to see Kaito for a few moments, now would it? He hadn't seen or had a proper talk with him (expect the call) in a while despite the fact that they went to the same University, and lived in the same house.
He opened the door quitely, his lip quirking up in amusement at Kaito's position; who was half lying and half leaning against the headboard in a position that suggested he had probably nodded off while waiting for him, and hell if that didn't make him fall even more in love with him.
Closing the door behind him, Shinichi deposited the files on the bedside table before making his way around the bed. Just as he had plucked the book (Arsene Lupin; Kaito's favorite) out of Kaito's hands, and adjusted his position into a more comfortable one by wrapping him up in blankets Kaito jostled awake.
Kaito blinked groggily, rubbing his eyes, and yawning. And needless to say Shinichi found the sight adorable. "Shin-chan...?"
" I am home," He leaned down, and pecked Kaito on the lips.
" Welcome –" Kaito cut himself off with a yawn. " – home. You are late." Kaito whined but made no move to get up, already comfortable in his current position.
" Yeah, sorry." Shinichi nuzzled his cheek, sighing as he inhaled the scent that he had missed so much in the past few weeks.
Kaito wrapped his arms around Shinichi's neck and tilted his head, eyes hopeful when he asked. "Sleep with me?"
The detective stilled, sweating at the question as he felt his resolve waver under the hopeful, and expecting indigo eyes staring at him. It was also followed by the guilt of neglecting Kaito for the past few weeks, even if he called and had sometimes lunch together with him, it didn't make up for the time he couldn't meet up with his lover.
They did go to the same University but couldn't really meet up with each other all that much because they were studying different Majors, and their departments were really far from each other. He had made a promise to himself to have lunch together with Kaito (for which he sometimes had to miss a class or two but Kaito didn't need to know that) but he hadn't been able to keep up that promise for a while now. Which was pathetic.
He really didn't mind missing a class if it means he could see Kaito's smile (though his lover would disagree with that).
He adored it whenever Kaito's face would lit up upon encountering him by chance, and he loved the looks on the faces of people who followed Kaito (because he had a charisma that naturally attracted people to him) when he announced that they were dating or when he kissed his magician in front of everybody.
Well, he was damned possessive, and Kaito was precious, so he really didn't want to let anyone get the wrong idea of Kaito being available.
Shinichi gulped, hesitating. " But—" He glanced at the files lying innocently on the table.
" Please?" Kaito pleaded while staring at him with those sad puppy dog eyes of his, and he just melted. Because there was absolutely no way he could say no to Kaito. Not when he was making that expression. And he also knew that Kaito was doing it on purpose because he knew that Shinichi was weak to those eyes. "Fine," Shinichi relented, feeling his lips quirk up in a fond smile when Kaito's whole face brightened up in happiness before he was kissed on the lips, and then his magician scooted over to make space for him.
When he got into the bed, Kaito wasted no time in cuddling with him as he smiled up at him before burying his face in his shirt with a pleased purr, and he couldn't stop the sudden surge of affection that welled up in him for the magician wrapped up in his arms, and he thought (not for the first time) just how much he meant to him, and just how blessed he was to have him here – with him – in his arms.
He tightened his arms around the magician, bringing him closer as he wrapped the blanket securely around them before burying his nose in Kaito's neck when he felt the breathing of the other starting to even out. The hand grabbing onto his shirt also started to loosen indicating that his lover had fallen asleep and Shinichi could also feel himself drifting off, feeling comforted by Kaito's presence.
He knew that he was just purely, and completely in love or as Hattori liked to say — utterly smitten.
(He should have also known that happiness doesn't last forever, and could be ripped away from his fingertips in a moment of ignorance)
The next morning Shinichi woke up with a start, freezing when he saw the time on the clock before scrambling to get ready for his class, and nearly tripping himself up in the process as Kaito watched in amusement. After Shinichi had gotten ready he gave Kaito a chaste kiss that made butterflies flutter in his stomach before grabbing his files, and hurrying out of the door.
After lazing around for a few more hours in bed Kaito got bored, and decided to go out in order to buy some equipments to prepare some tricks for the upcoming heist.
He climbed down the stairs and entered the kitchen to make himself some breakfast, also texting Shinichi to give him a reminder that he needs to eat something except coffee (because no matter what the other says, coffee does not count as proper breakfast or lunch) and that he would know if the other didn't.
He put on Shinichi's sweater, and jeans (which he had to unfortunately fold because it was long) knowing that it would annoy his lover but also knowing that he wouldn't really mind because he liked it seeing him in it, and also because they were really comfortable, and made him feel safe just like Shinichi did. So he made it his duty to borrow (read : steal) his lover's clothes at least twice a week thus resulting in a exasperated Shinichi whose clothes were constantly missing.
Well, he should have known what mess he was getting himself into before making an internationally wanted phantom thief his boyfriend.
Kaito sighed, his breathe coming out as a white puff of smoke.
While he was strolling the park, smiling a bit at the sight of children playing, he suddenly felt a gaze on his back that made the hair on his neck stand on ends.
He quickly whipped his head around but the feeling was already long gone and besides some elderly women, a young couple, and children he couldn't see anything or anyone else that felt off.
'Am I getting paranoid...?'
Kaito rubbed his neck uncomfortably, looking around for a few minutes before sighing, and brushing it off as just the cold.
(He would deeply regret this decision later)
A week later...
It had just been a regular day for him, getting up in the morning before completing his morning routine and then going off to University with an excited grin because today, he had two classes together with Shinichi (Yay!) and there was no way he was going to miss this chance.
Another reason he was happy was because Shinichi had asked him out on a date as Inspector Megure had strictly banned him from the Headquarters for a few days (days because the Inspector knew Kudou Shinichi will find his way inside the HQ due to one case or another) when he started overworking.
(It was just a normal day, and he should feel happy – yet he couldn't quite shake off the feeling of dread that had settled itself in his stomach since the morning)
He had unsurprisingly found his boyfriend along with the Osakan detective at the the cafeteria holding a cup of coffee with tantei-han sitting beside him supporting a pinched expression. He could assume that Shinichi was already on his fourth cup of coffee, and the other had tried to get him to eat something but had ultimately failed.
When he had gone over to them Shinichi had given him a kiss which he happily returned as he tried not blush when the detective stared at him with a sappy expression while Hattori gagged in the background (Get a room ya idiots!). But the expression on his face had quickly transformed into one of betrayal when the magician shoved a plate of food in front of him with a sweet smile. Kaito also settled in front of them with a cup of hot chocolate while his boyfriend sulkily ate his food, and Hattori cackled in the background.
As the rest of the day went on without anything uneventful happening, the pair was now strolling through the park after eating lunch and ice cream, fingers intertwined as they chattered and bickered. At one point, Shinichi had shrugged off his coat, and draped it over Kaito's shoulders when he saw his lover shivering. That rewarded him a kiss from Kaito which was supposed to be gentle but ended up getting hot when he took control.
The resulting flustered look that Kaito supported after the kiss, and the way his face reddened when he licked his lips, and commented that Kaito tasted like chocolate was adorable.
Just as Shinichi had leaned down to steal another kiss, his phone started ringing, and Kaito chuckled when Shinichi received the call with a ticked off expression, annoyed at being interrupted. Kaito could already guess what the call was about by the rapidly changing expressions on his detective's face.
The conservation (read: argument) that took place after Shinichi had ended the call was because he had wanted to walk Kaito home and he had refused saying that the detective was needed at the crime site. They had bickered back and forth for about fifteen minutes before Kaito was finally able to convince his detective to let him go home by himself.
The sky had grown pitch black by the time Kaito managed to convince the detective, who still looked quite unsure and hesitant but Kaito had just rolled his eyes before reminding him exasperatedly that they live in the same house and were going to meet in an hour or two. Then Kaito tilted his head with a teasing smile as he got closer, offering that Shinichi might receive a reward if he finished the case quickly.
After shooing away the frozen detective Kaito just shook his head, the corners of his lips twitching up as he also started walking in the direction of their house, humming a bit as he contemplated what he should make for dinner.
After walking for a few minutes, Kaito passed by an alleyway, pausing for a few seconds as he hesitatingly took a step back.
Was it him or was there a noise coming from in there? Kaito hesitated, debating whether he should or should not enter the dark alleyway. On one hand, Shinichi had told him to stay far away from any alleyways especially at night. No matter what. On the other hand, he was also worried that there might be an injured person in there who needed help.
He agreed with his lover that it was probably not the best option to go inside, and that it was reckless, and he probably shouldn't do it but the probability of the latter option being true made him hesitate.
He bit his lip when another muffled noise came from the alley.
Kaito took in a deep breath, throwing his reasons out of the window as he stepped inside the alley even though his instincts were practically screaming at him not to. Shinichi would definitely not agree with this option.
He sighed as made his way through the dark alleyway, and towards the source of noise which was starting to become more distinct as he traveled further inside (someone was crying...?) before coming to a halt in front of what looked like a girl who was crouched down, and shaking with her head buried in her knees as soft, muffled cries came from her.
Kaito extended his hand, intending to tap her on the head. "Are you hurt, little lady?" He asked with concern, instantly retracting his hand when he felt the girl jerk under his touch but still didn't dare to remove her head from her knees. "I won't harm you, so can you lift up your head?" Kaito said softly as he also kneeled down in front of her shaking form, offering a smile when the girl started to lift up her head.
Everything happened so fast in the next second.
He saw a tiny spark of electricity before the girl moved so quickly that he barely had the time to process what happening, and move out of the way before he got shocked by the stun gun. Now, he was sitting on the pavement in a quite ungraceful position for one Kaitou Kid as the girl stood a good two feet away from him, in his previously occupied space, holding the crackling stun gun in her hand, her face expressionless. "That's...quite a nice toy you have there, young lady." Kaito said sarcastically as if he had not just been attacked by said toy.
The girl's expression remain unchanged as she lunged at him again with the stun gun just as he had just gotten up from the ground, and he barely avoided the second blow aimed at his abdomen. He had dodged the third attack (that had gotten uncomfortably close to his face) by knocking the device out of her hand with the help of his card gun before jumping over her head and landing a clean hit on the nerve on her neck right after she turned. The girl yelped in surprise, not getting a chance to process what was happening before she fell to the ground, unconscious.
'Thank god Ran-chan, and Shinichi forced me to learn some self-defense tricks...'
Kaito had just heaved a sigh of relief before his breath was abruptly knocked out of him when he was suddenly attacked and grabbed by the neck from the behind by a man before getting slammed right into the wall, gasping in shock. He shut his eyes and hissed in pain at the impact, which soon turned into a whimper as the the hold on his neck tightened, and he struggled to breathe.
" Don't hurt him." Kaito heard another voice coming from the back while he busy clawing in vain at the large hand that was blocking his supply of oxygen. He could barely make out the shape of second man standing to the far back wall, hidden mostly by the shadows as his vision started getting blurry, and his eyes began to water due to lack of oxygen. He gasped, tugging weakly at the fingers wrapped around his neck in a futile attempt.
His lungs burned.
He heard the first man grunt in response before the hold on his neck loosened just a bit and that was all he needed. He immediately dropped a flash bomb, taking advantage of his assailant's surprise to kick him away before spraying him in the face with sleeping gas and watching him fall to the ground. He immediately slumped against the wall, coughing, and gasping for air as he slowly slid to the ground, his legs becoming useless.
He stiffened when the sound of the footsteps started getting closer, realising that – yes – there was another person that he had to deal with before he has safe. His one hand grabbed onto his card fun while his other was in the pocket of Shinichi's coat, searching for something – anything – that could be useful, pausing for a second when his fingers brushed against something extremely familiar.
" That was quite unexpected," the second man exclaimed with a tint of amusement in his tone despite what he had done to his companions, his voice now way closer than before.
He lifted his head up, eyes still glistening with unshed tears as they met those of the stranger – who seemed pretty surprised – standing a foot away from him. "What–" Kaito started to say before being interrupted when a cough racked his system. "Do you want?" He finished after regaining his voice back, glaring at the stranger who looked way to amused by this whole ordeal.
" Well," the stranger sighed dramatically as he crouched down in front of him. "Our mission was just to take you back. We don't know much except for the fact that you are a 'prized merchandise'."
Kaito let out a startled yelp when he was forcefully grabbed by the chin, and his face was yanked forward as the man in front of him carefully examined him over. "I can see why you are quite special compared to the other merchandise, and considering what you did to them," the man nodded to the fallen pair. "I have to say that I am impressed."
Kaito gritted his teeth, eyes burning with anger as he glared at the man sprouting nonsense in front of him. "I am no merchandise of yours." He snarled, breaking off the other's hold on his face. "I am a magician,"and a phantom thief He raised his chin high, refusing to back down. "There is only one person to whom I belong to, and that certainly doesn't include you or whoever ordered you to do this." He tightened his hold on the card gun, a plan forming in his head as he maintained eye contact with the surprised man.
The stranger whistled, impressed by the sheer confidence of the other. "As sweet as that is, if you don't cooperate I will have to use force, and I don't really wanna hurt that pretty face of yours." The man said in a bored voice as he switched the stun gun on, having picked it up from the ground, noticing how the other stiffened when the electricity crackled. Even if he was a self proclaimed magician, the boy was still just a high school student. The fact that he took down his companions was just a mere fluke, though he was curious where he got those convenient gadgets from.
" Try me." Kaito challenged him, a razor sharp grin on his face despite how hard his heart was pounding inside his chest. He brought his hand up intending to at least get a hit or two on the man but was stopped when the card gun was knocked out of his hand almost immediately.
The man attacked him with a stun gun which he avoided by rolling out of the way and doing a handstand before kicking the device out of his assailant's hand in revenge. But his triumph was short lived because he was then grabbed by the ankle and slammed into the ground, hissing in pain as his hands were roughly pinned above his head.
The man growled. "I don't really want to hurt you, boy."
Kaito smirked, his plan completed now that he had the other right where he wanted him. "I did say I was a magician," Kaito began, adjusting the gadget secretly in his hand. "And we don't give up with out a fight." He pressed the button on watch.
The man's eyes widened. "Why you–" He cursed, realising what was going to happen a bit too late as he felt a small prick on the side of his neck before he blacked out and fell unconscious on top of Kaito.
Kaito huffed, kicking the unnecessary weight off of him before pocketing Shinichi's tranquilizer watch as he laid there on the cold ground, panting, and trying to calm his heart beat down. After lying there for about half a minute, he forced himself to stand up on shaky legs with additional help from the wall, groaning and hissing as his back and neck throbbed in pain.
There was only one thought on his mind right now. Shinichi. He wanted to go home, where he was waiting for him. He wanted his detective – his lover – to envelop him in his strong arms, and just – make him feel safe. He wanted to hear the voice that always whispered words of comfort to him. He wanted to cuddle with Shinichi under the warm blankets where no one would disturb them. A lump formed in his throat. He just wanted Shinichi.
He dug his phone out of his pocket, making his way out of the alley by holding onto the wall as he shakily typed in the familiar digits of his lover's phone number. Having entered the final digit, he was about to press call when he somehow managed to stumble and bump into someone who steadied him with their arm. He muttered a small apology to the person, not really paying much attention.
And that's when Lady Luck decided to abandon him.
He froze when he felt a sharp pain in his forearm, immediately snapping his head up to meet a very familiar pair of deep brown eyes.
" Wha–"
" Have sweet dreams," The person smiled down at him.
The arm around his waist tightened as Kaito began to struggle weakly against the hold, a gasp escaping his lips when a strong spell of dizziness came over him and the ground began to sway under his feet. Kaito whimpered, frustrated tears pooling his eyes, he had been so close – so fucking close – as white spots started dancing in his vision before everything went black, and he fell limp in the awaiting arms, his phone slipping out of his fingertips and clattering to the pavement.
