Hold My Papa's Hand

Summary:

"As soon as they reach a crying kid, Jimin’s eyes betray him and instead of fixing on the injured kid, it fixes on the beautiful man with black hair that is kneeled by the hurt little boy. The perfect contrast between the man’s soft and delicate skin and the dark-black tones of his fluffy hair makes Jimin’s cheeks tint a rosy colour. Jimin feels a pleasurable ache inside his chest and a slight uptick in his heartbeat. The man is softly whispering words of comfort to the small boy, whose name he supposes to be Beomgyu, that has a small scratch on his knee. Fortunately, nothing too serious."

Jimin was only twenty-four years old when Yeonjun came into his life as an unplanned pregnancy. Back then, Jimin and his girlfriend agreed to keep the baby and take full responsibility together. A part of Jimin expected them to raise the baby as a couple. As a happy family.

However, looking back, Jimin was delusional, believing in ‘Happily Ever After’. He thought having a baby was enough for them; a reason to keep trying.

Unfortunately, it never happened.

Jimin calls it 'stupid, young love' nowadays.

After lots of difficult moments and childlike arguments, his girlfriend ended up leaving Jimin out of nowhere.

No answer. No further explanation. Just simply walked out and never came back again.

During that time, Jimin felt completely lost. The one, who he thought he loved and loved him back, was suddenly out of his life. His ex-girlfriend was also the one who mostly supported the little family in terms of money because the young male was still at university and all he did was small part-time jobs in small academies from time to time and it barely paid sixth of their total bills.

A total disaster.

Hence, when she got out of their shared house, Jimin struggled in the beginning. For a few months, his ex-girlfriend would constantly message him impolite words with an aggressive speech. She would blame Jimin for everything that had gone wrong in their relationship and repeatedly denying the existence of Yeonjun, their child. Or, supposedly their child. Yeonjun was only one year old and the sudden separation between the mother and the child at such a young age made everything complicated. Jimin had to buy breast milk to feed his son, which was very expensive.

Despite all the hardships while raising the baby alone, it helped Jimin grow as an adult. As a person.

Thankfully, in the midst of all his misfortune, he found Hoseok, a dance teacher at a local academy, who became Jimin's best friend and greatest help at his worst time. Jimin still sees Hoseok as his little four-leaf clover. The one who has been bringing happiness and luck into Jimin's life. He gave Jimin a job in the academy when they first met.

If anyone asks him if he regrets having Yeonjun, he will proudly say no. He loves his son more than anything in the whole universe. He is the happiest now.

"Daddy!" A high-pitched voice fills the living room, lifting its atmosphere with happiness and cheerfulness. Jimin looks up, taking his eyes away from the article he is reading on the phone and notices his little boy running cutely towards him. Yeonjun throws himself into Jimin's embrace while carrying the brightest smile and makes Jimin giggle as they are hugging tightly.

Sunday.

It is finally Sunday. A beautiful Sunday. The sky is clear and the soft wind whistling outside makes a pleasant sound penetrate in Jimin's ear. It has been a few weeks since Sunday is so calming and wording. The air with such clear skies makes him actually want to go out and spend the evening enjoying a little bit of the outside. Luckily, Jimin doesn't have work on those days, his full free day of the week.

"Can we going to the pawr today?" Yeonjun asks. His voice is excited, his little leg kicks and happy movements while sitting on his daddy's lap adding to the moment. His eyes are shining and he is doing his cute puppy eyes.

"Can /we go/." Jimin corrects his son gently.

Yeonjun grins and nods his head, asserting the correction but not repeating it. Jimin knows how smart his son is and how quickly he usually learns.

The little boy ends up redoing his puppy eyes, intensifying the pout forming on his cute little plump lips. Jimin feels like melting each second. Yeonjun knows how weak his daddy is for his puppy eyes. For his pout? Damn, too much.

How can Jimin resist his son's cuteness?

Simple. He can't.

He teasingly pokes Yeonjun's little nose before tenderly placing a kiss on it.

"Let's go! It is such a beautiful day!' Jimin says, his eyes shaping into lovely crescents, petting Yeonjun's hair with care.

A bright smile forms on Yeonjun's face, his teeth full-on display while he giggles. Then, he cups his daddy's face and presses two small kisses on each of his chubby cheeks, making Jimin chuckle at his action.

"I wove you sho much, daddy! You awe the beshth daddy in the univershe." Yeonjun lifts his tiny arms as he is feeling overly excited. Jimin holds him by putting his army behind his son's back so he won't fall and brings him closer.

"I am the best daddy." Jimin laughs and then gives a small kiss on his forehead.

Being constantly busy and drowned in paperwork is Yoongi's life. Being a single father and a doctor is a weird mix, yet he tries his best to be less occupied while at home so he can spend more time with his son.

When Yoongi found out his girlfriend at that time was cheating on him with her co-worker, Yoongi was speechless and hopeless. Selflessly, he wanted to keep their relationship for the sake of their son, who was barely one year old.

It didn't work. It wasn't destined to work.

Yoongi's ex-girlfriend ran away one day and Yoongi used to put himself at fault. Maybe if he didn't suggest trying, she could have stayed at least in their son's life.

Years later, he also realised that his ex-girlfriend had only stayed with him to pay all the debts. As their shared house was paid by Yoongi's parents as a present to get into university, neither of them had to pay. He finds out she had done different plastic surgeries and yet she hadn't paid for half of them.

She had never loved him.

Now, at the age of thirty-three, Yoongi has gladly erased most of the memories of him and his ex. People with those wrong inwardly and morality deserve no space in his life. Yoongi regrets giving them a chance but instead of mourning his mistake, he uses it to learn and move forward.

Yoongi basically works 24/7; thus, he almost has no spare time to spend with his son. It doesn't only sadden him but it also makes him feel a little bit guilty. Beomgyu understands his dad so clearly that it amazes Yoongi. Despite his young age, the little boy is very emotionally wise.

Those traits come mostly from Namjoon and Seokjin's babysitting, Yoongi believes. The married couple loves taking care of Beomgyu and use that time to not only play fun games but also teach him different things. Beomgyu learns lots of mathematics from Namjoon and Korean from Seokjin – especially the clear and perfect pronunciation and diction. At the age of five, Beomgyu is one of the smartest students in South Korea for his age, and Yoongi is the proudest dad in the world.

Even though Yoongi doesn't spend as much time as he would like with his son, he treasures every single second he is able to be with him. Tuesdays and Thursdays are 'lunch day with papa' as Beomgyu says, as Yoongi picks up his son from school in order to have lunch together. Monday and Wednesday are 'going to school with papa' as Yoongi drops Beomgyu at school before heading to work. Yet Beomgyu's favourite days are Fridays, because Yoongi takes Beomgyu to work as the little one has no school, and Fridays aren't as busy as the other days. Plus, most patients love seeing Beomgyu and somehow, the presence of a child makes most of them relax.

He remembers perfectly, about a year ago, Beomgyu had confessed he wanted to “be like Papa!”

It made Yoongi giggle at that time. He remembers holding his son's face and kissing his forehead tenderly.

"You will be your own self, and you will be amazing at it." Maybe Beomgyu didn't understand his words fully, or maybe he did. However, Yoongi only hopes that those words will stay with him and reassure him in the future. All he wishes is for his son to be eternally happy and safe.

Yoongi is sitting on the kitchen's chair, doing some paperwork when Beomgyu interrupts him. Yoongi hears his son's walking, heavy and small steps; each second getting louder as his son gets closer.

"Papa!" Beomgyu sounds upset as he is yelling. The dad looks to his side and finds Beomgyu pouting, his eyes tinged with a bit of sadness.

Yoongi gets up from his chair and kneels down to match his baby's height. A sigh is let out before he says:

"What's wrong, baby?" Yoongi lifts his hand unhurried and lovingly caresses his son's cheeks.

"I wanna go to the pawrk today." Beomgyu's loud humph echoes through the room while he is crossing his arms.

Yoongi smiles weakly. "I need to finish this today, lil Beom. Tomorrow papa has a free afternoon, so I can take you there after school."

Despite Yoongi's careful response and sweet smile, Beomgyu starts tearing up. Small tears stream down his small face, making Yoongi panic because his son rarely cries. He cups the little boy's face and whispers words of comfort while he is whipping his tears that seem to have no end.

"What's wrong, little Beom?" His tone is soft as a way to calm down his son's whispers, which, fortunately, seem to get less loud each second as well as his tears, which were less than before.

"A-a girw at shchool shaid you love your work more than Beom." Beomgyu uses his little hands to rub his eyes carefully while a small tear is streaming down his face.

Yoongi feels his heart stop; like it climbs out of his body just to lay on the floor. Lifeless. His chest aches in a weird way and he feels an unfamiliar pressure on his hands.

He’s a failure as a dad.

He hugs his son without any further thoughts. Beomgyu is Yoongi's most precious gift. His everything. His happiness.

He also wants his son to find comfort in him. After all, he is his Papa.

After breaking their hug, Yoongi strokes Beomgyu's hair and leaves a small kiss on his cheek. Muah.

"Cutie Beom…" Yoongi murmurs softly; the pet name makes Beomgyu giggle. "Papa loves you more than anything in the universe. Papa is so sorry that he has to work so much, but Papa will try better, ok?"

Beomgyu stares at his papa for a few seconds before nodding enthusiastically. The young dad picks him up and puts him on the kitchen counter. As soon as he is sitting on it, his little legs start to wiggle happily, making it harder for Yoongi to contain his smile.

"I believe you, Papa."

Those words reassure him so much.

Yoongi squeezes his little nose as he is cooing at his baby. Beomgyu chuckles and tries to touch his dad's nose so he can mirror his action but he fails as Yoongi kneels down, pretending to disappear. His action makes Beomgyu giggle louder and harder.

"Papa!" Beomgyu keeps on giggling. He lowers his face and looks at his dad. "I can see you!"

It makes both of them laugh loudly. Beomgyu keeps on wiggling his legs due to the feeling of excitement filling his little body while Yoongi gets up slowly, hands on the chair so it can help him.

"I love you, Papa!"

Yoongi ruffles his dark brown hair. "I love you too, lil Beom." The black-haired dad helps Beomgyu getting off the table my picking him up and placing him on the floor. "Now, let's get dressed so we can go to the park."

It makes Beomgyu almost yell as he feels so excited and happy. But he doesn't because the young boy knows he shouldn't make very loud noises as they live in an apartment. Yet, it doesn't stop him from running towards his room.

It also doesn't stop Yoongi from feeling a warm sensation on his chest and letting out a small chuckle.

Family is important. Beomgyu is his family.

Sunday is the most crowded day of the week in the park because most parents have that day free; hence, when Jimin arrives at the usual small park for kids and sees almost no one, he finds it a bit strange. However, he doesn't mind. In fact, he is thankful. He isn't very keen on the idea of crowded areas, especially the park.

Most people, who are single, are very interested in wooing single parents as handsome as Jimin. He will always get praises from them, which will end up in only Jimin awkwardly thanking them or trying to get out of the conversation carefully.

Nowadays, being the centre of attention for Jimin isn't his thing.

It is not that Jimin isn't very interested in dating. If he is honest, he does miss the feeling of being in love and being loved but somehow, most people he meets just aren't his thing. They are either looking for hook-ups, nothing serious or just aren't simply someone for Jimin. Therefore, Jimin accepted his fate and uninstalled all dating apps and avoided flirting socially.

Jimin is sitting on the dark wooden chair when his son suddenly comes running towards him, a sad and worried expression tinged on his face. Jimin got up from the chair so quickly, he almost lost balance and fell.

"Daddy!" Yeonjun hugs his dad's waist and presses his face onto Jimin's stomach while he is whining loudly. "Beomgyu is hurt!” Before Jimin can even react, Yeonjun is already pulling him by Jimin’s pinky. The young father looks at his son while raising an eyebrow as he feels extremely confused. Is Beomgyu one of his imaginary friends? Either way, Jimin must help. After all, Yeonjun is his precious son.

“Who’s Beomgyu, baby?” The question is asked with the softest tone after Jimin stops his son from pulling him and starts petting his hair, trying to calm him down.

“New fwiend. Pwease help!” Yeonjun cries a little bit harder while a hiccup leaves his throat very softly. What can Jimin do? Say no? That will be a heartless choice. His son grabs his pinky once again, pulling him to the place he has been waiting to take his daddy. Jimin just lets himself be guided to the area. No word coming out from either of them.

As soon as they reach a crying kid, Jimin’s eyes betray him and instead of fixing on the injured kid, it fixes on the beautiful man with black hair that is kneeled by the hurt little boy. Fortunately, nothing too serious.

“Beomgyu!” Yeonjun has the biggest pout and puppy eyes while he is running towards his friend and once he is by Beomgyu’s side, he gives his friend the biggest and warmest hug from behind. “My daddy is here to help!” The other man glances at Jimin, making their eyes meet in such a pleasing way. If Jimin thinks his heart is pumping rapidly previously, well then, right now, it is racing a marathon. The feeling is heavily good; a lovely heartfelt pressure on his chest. The black-haired man smiles shortly at Jimin and then, proceeds to pay attention to the hurt child in front of him.

“Is this Yeonjun, Beomie?” His voice is so raspy and gorgeous, Jimin feels like drowning in it; he is in awe. It has been such a long time since he has felt such an instant infatuation. He missed that feeling so much.

Beomgyu nods to answer the handsome man’s question. “Daddy! Help Beomgyu!” Yeonjun is pleading while he gets up from the hug and stares at Jimin with intensity, pouting.

"Yeonjun, this young man is already help–," Jimin's sentence is interrupted due to his son reaching for his arm and pulling him down, making Jimin kneel down on the ground. Knees touching the ground. They are all now on the same height level.

"Young man?" A deep voice that sends shivers down Jimin's spine says. Jimin peeks at his side and finds the man chucking at Jimin's words. "I am truly honoured." Jimin lowers his face, blush spreading through his whole face. He desires to hide far, far away.

"I am Beomgyu's father."

Oh.

"I am…" Jimin gulps, gagging slightly in his own words. "I am Yeonjun's father."

The black-haired male chuckles at Jimin's behaviour, his hand covering half of his face. "I figured." Beomgyu's father answers shortly and Jimin feels his inside burning with embarrassment. A small silence plays between them afterwards as they are looking at their children playing with each other. Yoongi and Jimin are both sitting on the ground as if they are two kids gossiping to each other. So cute.

"I am Min Yoongi by the way."

"Park Jimin." Jimin replies, trying to avoid eye-contact even though he can feel Yoongi's eyes penetrating him. He quite enjoys it that makes him feel shameless.

"Pretty name." Despite the reply being said in a very soft and almost inaudible tone, it didn't stop Jimin from blushing furiously, the dark reddish colour spreading across his cheeks. "Just like the person who owns it." Jimin bites his lips and peeks up to find Yoongi smiling innocently. A whole wave of emotions crashes through him abruptly because his words are far from innocent.

"I–," Jimin swallows hard. "I think we should take care of your son." Jimin mumbles and fries to move to the little boy's side so he can see the injury better. It does look like it has been treated. But his actions are cut as soon as Yoongi speaks.

"He's doing fine. I already took care of the little scratch. The crying is mostly due to the emotional pain and shock from the big fall. He was mostly scared yet as soon as your son started to distract him, he forgot about the pain." Yoongi mumbles calmly and Jimin nods, understating and somewhat fascinated by the response. It sounded so professional. They stare at their kids playing with each other. Yeonjun is doing silly faces so Beomgyu can laugh and it works perfectly. It also makes Jimin giggle as he watches them. “Your son is very good at helping others,” Yoongi says in the end and makes Jimin’s chest feel warm because Yeonjun is indeed so sympathetic and good with other kids.

“Are you…?” Jimin feels kind of hesitant to finish his question because he hates analysing people due to the first impression and yet, he hopes his question will not be harmful nor pathetic. “Are you a doctor?”

Yoongi hums. “I am.” A small chuckle is let out by Yoongi and it resonates beautifully in Jimin’s ears; such a sweet melody. His gummy smile is the most precious thing Jimin has ever seen. It makes Jimin’s heart do things he has forgotten that it could. Maybe it is love at first sight. Maybe Jimin feels drawn by the man’s everything. He is defeated.

“I am a dance teacher.” Jimin murmurs, staying silent for a few seconds afterwards. “Not as exciting as being a doctor.” Jimin adds, feeling embarrassed while he touches the front of his neck, clearing his throat.

“Dance teacher? That’s amazing, Jimin. Without people like you, those who have a passion for dancing wouldn’t be able to fulfil their dreams.” His calm voice tone makes Jimin feel reassured. It makes Jimin bubble with happiness in the most endearing way. For some unknown reason, Jimin feels safe in the presence of Yoongi and he desires to navigate those unknown paths and discover more of the man and the reason why he is feeling such emotions. “Every job is important and necessary. Even if some people don’t realise it, unfortunately — every job has an important role in our society. Speaking of teaching dance, my best friend is also one.” Yoongi says proudly, making Jimin giggle with enthusiasm.

“Really?” The pink-haired boy asks, feeling intrigued and a little bit too excited and wriggling his body slightly. He has never met anyone in the dance teaching field apart from Hoseok. It makes him feel excited to maybe, hopefully, meet someone with the same love and passion.

Yoongi nods, humming.

“One of my closest friends is also a teacher! I am a teacher at his academy.” Thinking about Hoseok makes Jimin giggle because it brings him pure and optimistic thoughts. He loves him dearly. Without him, Jimin could have been so lost in his life right now. He truly owns Hobi a lot even though Hoseok would probably deny it.

“My best friend is also the owner of an academy. Hope Acade—,”

“Ho-Hope Academy?” Jimin interrupts Yoongi, his eyes wide open, agape moment.

Yoongi glances at him, confusion tinting in his face and nods a bit unsure of his response.

“Jung Hoseok?” Jimin raises the questions while glaring at Yoongi who nods once again, affirming Jimin’s question. They stare at each other for a few seconds before laughing out loud. What an ironic event!

“Hoseok knows everyone . I wouldn’t be surprised if he knew the president.” Yoongi mumbles while both of them are still laughing at this unplanned event.

“I am sure it would be a wild meeting.” Jimin completes Yoongi’s statement and both of them crack up once again, imaging Hoseok’s encounter with the president and adding little jokes, making them laugh harder each second. How funny it would be! Jimin can feel some tears falling from his eyes due to the excessive amount of laughter they share while they are sitting in the grass. More wild ideas about how it would be like if Hoseok and the president met are shared between them and Jimin feels his cheeks heating up and it is becoming harder to breathe. He feels happy. Yoongi is very cute and funny. As soon as they calm down, Yoongi asks him something related to the academy.

“Are you the other dance teacher?”

“Yes.”

Yoongi’s mouth shapes into an “O” while he is making the type of sound someone makes when they discover something new. He seems very surprised and yet his lips form a smirk not even a second later. “So you are the Park Jimin .”

Jimin raises his eye-brow. “What do you mean by the Park Jimin ?” Jimin asks with his mouth forming a pout and his cheeks heating up as he senses some kind of praise — or wishes for one. His tiny hands try to cover the blush from his face but there isn’t much the cute boy can do because his whole face is already a beautiful blushing mess.

It makes Yoongi chuckle at his behaviour. “Hoseok told me about a very pretty and cute dance teacher who is also a single father , I quote. He says you’re an excellent dancer.” Jimin blushes even harder at these compliments, making a cute sound as he is bringing his knees up and embracing them to hide his face in between. “I mean, I can see that the cute and pretty part is correct so I assume that the excellent dancer is also true.”

“Thanks.” Is all Jimin can reply with right now. “Wh–,”

“Daddy!” Both adults glance at the direction from where the voice is coming and notice two little boys running towards them. Despite the feeling of confusion due to the abrupt calling, they both smile at them.

"Daddy, can me, you, Beomgyu and Beomgyu'sh daddy go eath ice shcream?" Jimin doesn’t say anything for a few seconds as he is caught with such a sudden question out of nowhere. Therefore, his son pleads harder because, for Yeonjun, his daddy looks hesitant. "Pweety pwease!" Jimin sighs, lifting his hand to brush his son’s hair so it will not be in front of his eyes.

“I am sure Beomgyu’s dad is busy. So let’s try another day.” Jimin replies softly but his son’s enthusiasm quickly turns to dejection.

“I am fine with it.” Yoongi mumbles quickly after and Yeonjun’s face lit up immediately. “If…” he coughs awkwardly. “If you’re also fine with it,” Yoongi adds embarrassingly as his excitement has been very noticeable from his voice tone. Jimin’s mind whirls.

“Really Papa?!” Beomgyu almost yells out of happiness. The young father smiles and ruffles his son’s hair who starts smiling teasingly at his dad. “You said you have work.” As soon as his son slips the truth, Yoongi starts blushing a lot and tries to cover it by lowering his face and scratching his neck. Jimin wants to giggle as he feels endeared by it.

“Papa can finish it later.” Yoongi grins at his son but Beomgyu giggles loudly, patting his dad’s shoulder. Jimin notices how Yoongi’s cheeks grow redder each second and how his aura is filled with embarrassment. So cute. “Don’t you wanna play with your new friend, little Beom?” Yoongi’s voice tone sounds more threatening than sweeter and makes Jimin wonder the kind of dynamic Yoongi and Beomgyu have. He thinks they are very endearing and adorable. Beomgyu just keeps on giggling instead of answering dad and Yoongi glares at him, his eyes shouting a warning that Beomgyu doesn’t really care about.

"Yoongi-ssi… I don't want to disturb your work. I am sure we can meet up another time-,"

"Oh! No, no!" Yoongi cuts his speech while waving his hand and then, crossing them. Jimin cannot help himself but smile; Yoongi is a synonym for art. “It’s fine.” Yoongi murmurs in an almost inaudible way as he is shy.

“Then,” Jimin bites his lip before smiling at Yoongi. “Let’s go.” Jimin tries to reach for his son’s hand and yet Yeonjun denies his touch.

"Daddy, I wanna hwold Beomgyu's hand!" Yeonjun pouts and so does Jimin as soon as he hears his son’s sentence, faking his sadness. He won’t mind if Yeonjun doesn’t want to hold his hand.

“Then who will hold my hand?”

“Hold my Papa’s hand.” Beomgyu says, an innocent smile forming in his face.
