Work Text:
“If you want a quirk so badly, jump off a roof and pray you get one in your next life.”
Feeling the small sobs escape her mouth, she ran through the empty dorm hallway, her legs moving as fast as she could, stopping only as she almost tripped over her own feet, only tilting her body while holding her arms together. Her mid-length blonde ponytail becoming undone as she moved swiftly, the hairs sticking to her wet face.
She really said that to him didn't she?
And now she was the one falling apart.
How did this happen again? When did she become so weak...for someone she didn't give a damn about before the last couple months. It wasn't fair-but then again, she was an asshole to him, she was so mean...it would only make sense if he never forgave her deep inside.
It wasn't supposed to be like this, a regular night in the common room, the class sitting by while Kirishima had dragged her out of her room. Begrudgingly agreeing to his point she grumbled the whole way there, dragging herself down, her sweatpants sagging along the way as her tank top tipped from the sides of her shoulders which she quickly covered considering the looks Mineta was giving her.
The others were being normal, just chatting among themselves that Friday night, it was getting late, but wasn't exactly too bad considering what time she usually went to sleep. Katsuki only shrugged her shoulders upwards as she crouched on the couch, zoning from the conversation of who everyone liked before Mina poked a finger at her.
Growling, she only slid away as the girl spoke, "C'mon Katsuki! Who do you like, we know you're all tough but there has to be someone!" she chanted, the eyes of the others, even half N half diverting to her with curious touches. Shoving the pink girl away, she only growled before talking, "Like someone-I don't have time for that shit, who do you think I am?"
Ignoring the giggles and protests she only let her mind wander as they kept going, "Alright, then who was the first person you thought about when Ashido said that," Hagukure laughed as the blonde shook her head with a glare, it's not like she would tell them anything, especially not in front of the whole class.
Of course, she thought of someone.
The first time her heart skipped a beat for him was when he was walking down the hall, his green hair moving slightly as he nodded towards something four eyes said. He wore that regular grin that she despised with all of herself. She tried ignoring his presence as she moved the opposite way, but he only gave her a small wave to which she grunted and looked away.
To be honest she wasn't sure what it was.
It only kept coming back every time he would talk to her so she only pushed away, even more, that would help right? This was probably just because she hated him so much, maybe she just had an urge to beat him up. Actually she did, but for the wrong reasons, he wasn't even touching her but it was wrenching her apart every time they would bring apart that girl from America and his cheeks would flush a bright red.
He obviously liked her.
It wasn't like it was in their first year, the rivalry had been brought but he and Uraraka didn't have their petty little thing for each other anymore. They both got over it as quickly as it came, she told him it was just a small fling not that Bakugou cared back then. No, instead he started to talk more to that girl from America, chuckling during their calls while the other guys cheered him on.
She should have been annoyed that her rival was spending time on someone else instead of training to beat her, that's what she thought for the longest time. It wasn't too long ago when she was just walking through the hall, opening Deku's dorm room without hesitation. Now, don't get the wrong idea, the two had just been paired together for a huge assignment for studies because the universe loved screwing with her. They had been working together for the best couple of days. Sure, the screaming and yelling and annoyance and arguing was something that didn't cease at first but she did end up calming down after a while.
What really sucked was when he was facetiming the other girl, that soft look in his eyes and face that she knew he would never look at her with. It was special, reserved and not for her. Biting her lip she only stood there, pausing until he noticed her, his eyes widening as he quickly mumbled his goodbyes, a nervous smile appearing on his face.
"O-oh hey Kacchan? You should have knocked haha, you're early per usual. Sorry about that, Melissa called about some new support item she was working on, it's really cool you know? I mean all her inventions are so I wouldn't ever doubt-"
"Shut up Nerd, I'm here to work, not hear you yap about your girlfriend," she tried to say the words menacingly but ended up sounding more let down and crooked than she wanted. Deku only glazed his eyes over her as if trying to read her face but only furrowed his eyebrows in confusion before smiling again.
"Sure thing, she's not my girlfriend by the way!"
"I didn't ask," she spat the words out. She didn't want to continue this conversation any longer than she had to and the nerd finally seemed to get the hint and got up to grab his workbook.
Moving back to the present, the night in the common room was fine, after the small spitball about Bakugou's crush they only moved on to the others in their class, not minding her too much. Thank god for their short attention span, any more and she might have barfed. Or so that's what she wanted to think.
But then they asked him, eyes gleaming as his eyes widened and face turned pale, "Me? Uh-well-" he started, a hand reaching to scratch the back of his neck as he mumbled a trace of unrecognizable words. Rolling her eyes, Bakugou only sat up in her seat, swaying her hair aside as Uraraka giggled and narrowed her eyes at him.
"Look! You're blushing, who's the lucky girl?" the zero gravity user asked, leaning in as she asked the question and it took every ounce in Katsuki not to go and push her aside. "Er-well-uh...b-blushing, huh?!" Sighing Kaminari patted him on back before adding in along with them, "At least tell us what color hair she has?" Well, that question was flawed as fuck, what if he didn't like anyone in general, this is why Dunce Face was always getting called an idiot-
"Blonde."
Tensing her shoulders as the rest of the class pestered him about liking Melissa, Deku cowered under them, Bakugou only squeezing out of her spot between Mina and Kirishima, the group staring at her as she turned to walk away, her hands in her pockets. She wanted to leave, kick something, yell at someone but most of all never look at him again.
Course he didn't want her.
Melissa was perfect for him, the two were smart and kind, both of them wearing easy smiles and wanted to help everyone around them or so she'd heard from the chatter among the so-called 'couple that wasn't confirmed.' Pursing her lips, she shut her eyes, moving away without a word, her footsteps quickly marching as the others called out to her.
Hearing the familiar voice she only started to go faster and faster, "Kacchan-hey-you guys stay here, I'll go check on her," the voice said, she could almost imagine the worried expression he would wear and it killed her. She didn't want to see him, why couldn't he get the hint, she had stayed up all the time, thinking about why it was him and it was finally getting to her.
Her feet were moving on their own at this point, she was marching as fast as she could, not knowing where she was but instead kept her eyes on the ground as something stung behind her pupils. Her chest hurt so bad that she wanted to just disappear, it was different from physical pain, the feeling running through her veins as she blinked, small, wet droplets escaping her.
She tormented him.
She ruined his childhood.
Made everyone hate him when she could have stopped the teasing and defended him.
Left him alone when he needed support and instead made it worse.
Beat him up, yelled at him, teased him, tried crushing the one dream he had in his life.
Told him to die.
It was horrible, she was a terrible person, and it's not like she was different, she was still the same, getting mad at people for dumb reasons and being infuriating. She had changed in some aspects that she accepted, maybe she wasn't exactly a bully anymore but would she ever forgive someone if they did that to her? So why did he still keep his head up, smile and walk around like everything ok when she now knows that he wasn't okay. Obviously she did something to him, whether he told her or showed it, she broke something, and now he was over it and she was falling into a pool of guilt and regret.
Feeling her legs stop as she reached a wall, she only put her fists on it, dragging herself down as she reached her room, opening the door she didn't even think hard enough to shut it before sliding down to the floor. Her eyes spilling tears all over her but she didn't mind it at the moment. She was alright, she would be alright, this was nothing, she was strong, Deku was nothing to her.
"Kacchan?"
But at the same time, he was everything.
"Leave me alone," she hissed, knowing that he was watching her falling apart right now, the boy only stood, his eyes piercing into hers as he shut the door behind him, making sure not to make to much noise as he walked inside, Katsuki holding out her hands as he came in, another croak escaping her, "Get out-you're not supposed to be here, I don't want you here-I don't need your help-"
The boy didn't say anything, still watching as Katsuki rambled on, her sobs escaping, getting louder and louder than before. He didn't want her. He wanted Melissa. He loved another girl and she should be happy on the inside, that was what they said right, if you love someone you should be happy for them, want the best for them.
"Are you ok Kacchan?"
It was simple, to anyone else it might have sounded unnecessary considering that she was obviously sitting there like a mess, her hair tangling up all over her while her shirt yet again drooped from the side and her clothes were covered in big, fat patches because of all the crying.
"God Deku, can you just go, I hate you so much and I just-it's too much for me. I can't take it the way you look at her, I just want you to look at me like that, I want you to care about me," she blurted the words out before she could stop them, her eyes watering while the one for all user opened his mouth.
"I do care about you Kacchan, I always have!"
"You care about everyone, don't you get it, I want you to take your eyes off Melissa and give me your attention, it's so selfish because I treated you like fucking shit, I can't even count how many apologies you deserve and I just hate myself so much for doing that to you. I just want you to love me the same way you love her," she said, it didn't matter if he knew at this point. She had to say it now or it would stay bottled up and slowly kill her from the inside, she was smart enough to know that.
What she didn't expect was the pair of arms around her as she sniffled, her cries only getting louder in volume as he held her, she didn't mind it, her head digging into his chest and he squeezed her back, letting her weeping go on as long as needed it to. When the girl finally started to gain her breath back, her head still buried into him and nimble fingers clutching on his shirt as she snorted softly. She looked like a dumbass.
"I never said I didn't love you Kacchan," he said quietly, the words coming out as no more than a whisper. Pushing back she only held her arms to herself, her lungs sopping for a second before she wiped her tears, "Are you really going to play with my heart right now? Because it's the last thing I want you to fucking-"
"I don't love Melissa, I love you, I always have, I didn't really think it would have ever been reciprocated though," he said softly as the girl shook in her spot, she looked more fragile then he would have liked. It was sad to see her like this, it didn't seem like this was something you would imagine her doing. Then again, she was just a teenage girl and she did have the same emotions as any other. Being an amazing person didn't mean that they weren't vulnerable to things like this.
Moving back to reach out to her, his eyes widened as she wrapped her arms around his neck, tilting him back so he was just supporting himself up with his arms. Slowly taking her smaller frame in he held her as he heard the tears start back again, it almost made him want to start crying too.
Katsuki didn't waste any more time with that, just feeling the warmth was enough as she laughed quietly, "God, you're so dumb," she said as he held back a wide grin, "You don't seem to hate it." Scoffing along with the statement she didn't exactly feel like shooting back. Feeling him trace his fingers along her jawline she shuddered slightly, only tipping herself up.
She wasn't sure who moved first but she could only feel her eyes fluttering as her lips crashed against his, the soft tartiness mixing with her. It was like there was nothing there but them, he room fading as she fell into him, her arms only squeezing his neck and pulling him own even more, Deku running his arm up and down her back as they split up only to conjoin again.
"I love you so much Kacchan," he muttered in-between their trance of furious kisses, the girl only crinkling her eyes as she pulled away. "You told me that already."
"I just felt like saying it again."
"I love you too.-and I'm not going to say it often so just remember it okay...do we-start uh-what is that those extras do, date or whatever?" she said, mumbling over her words as if she was Deku, putting her eyes down and blinking several times.
"I would like that Kacchan."
He only smiled and she could feel her heart melt back again as if she was starting to have another rush of feelings.
She could do with this.
