Chapter 1: baseball baby

Chapter Text

((A/N: hi! i'm angie and this is a idv boys x reader fic... this is my first fic so be gentle!! sorry for the british spelling and ooc XD

Norton: ...What are you doing? My class is on the other side of the school.

Me: Hehe... just wait here! XD you won't regret it...

Norton: This is stupid. I'm leaving.

Me: Wait.... no!! Here she comes!!!))

My mum dropped me off next to the school main building, taking her sweet time to park. I was sure that her bright blue car was drawing too much attention, and I'd asked her to let me take the bus on my own like everyone else, but that was my mum for you.

"Okay, big day today, right?" She turned to look at me as I was getting ready to get out of the car and bolt for my life. "New school, junior year."

"I'll be fine, mum," I sighed, tugging at my oversized sweater and shifting the thick stack of books in my arms.

"Don't forget to check in at the school office!" she called as I exited the car. I'm sure half the parking lot heard her. ((A/N: don't you totally hate when parents do that???))

As I walked across the parking lot to the main door, I noticed the plaza buzzing with cliques. Different school, same story. I was going to have trouble finding friends, being quiet and reserved. I walked through the main doors, and I had no idea where the office was. I squeezed my way deeper into the hallways, trying to get a sense of where I should go.

Suddenly, someone crashed into me, and sent all the books in my arms crashing into the ground. I fell backwards onto the ground, hearing the clang of something metal against the ground.

"Ah! Watch-" I stopped in the middle of my sentence. A pair of stormy blue eyes looked into mine, and those 3 seconds felt like the longest in the world.

"Are- are you ok?" He asked, dusting himself off and extending a hand to help me up. I shook myself out of my daze, and finally looked at the boy in front of me- dark chocolate hair, deep eyes, and a baseball uniform. It fit him a little too well, I noticed as my eyes flicked up and down his body, and I flushed before looking away. I hoped he wouldn't think I was being weird...

"I'm fine," I mumbled, taking his hand because I didn't want to seem rude. Oh god, was the entire hallway watching my graceless fall? Way to make a first impression.

"Here, let me-" He helped me gather up my books, and as I reached to pick up the last one- our hands brushed against each other, ever so slightly. I snatched my hand like I was burnt, but he only smiled, and oh, he was infuriatingly good looking, if I hadn't noticed before. He got up then, picking up his baseball bat.

"See ya around," he winked, then turned to disappear back into the crowd. I tucked a piece of hair behind my ear out of habit, realizing the blush on my face. I tried to brush it away, but the flush stubbornly stayed. ((A/N: totally relatable i think i would faint omg xd))

Before I could try to figure out where to go next, two people rushed up to me. "OMG, Emma, did you see that?" The boy with fluffy chestnut hair said, falling into step on my left. "Totally, duh! That was Norton Campbell, oh god, you're so lucky!" The girl on my right replied. She had her hair in a high ponytail, and a splash of freckles across her cheeks.

"I... hi?" I said awkwardly, surprised by their sudden intrusion. "OMG, I'm so sorry, that's Emma and I'm Lucky. You're new here, right? What's your name?"

"I'm Y/N," I told them. I had no idea where we were going, but the two of them navigated easily through the crowded corridors.

"Okay, so you don't know who Norton Campbell is, he's like, a total dreamboat. But he doesn't talk to girls, like ever. Not even Lucky," Emma told me, and Lucky pouted in response. "Oh, and he's just a junior like us, but he's already captain of the baseball team,"

"Totally," Lucky said, sidestepping a girl. "But you've got a real chance, Y/N, he was practically proposing,"

"Who says I'm interested?" I snorted. "I'm just trying to get through the year,"

Emma giggled. "That's what everyone says. I wish I had a chance with Norton too,"

"Not interested. By the way, would you happen to know where the school office is...?"

"Already here," Lucky laughed. Somehow after all those twists and turns, we had ended up exactly where I needed to go. "Listen, Y/N, the bell's about to go so we can't wait around, but come find us at lunch! We can help you out since you're new,"

The day was going much better than I expected originally. Lucky and Emma both seemed very nice. Maybe this school would be better than the last.

"Sure," I promised. Lucky and Emma left in a chorus of "See you!" and "Bye!", then I was left on my own. I pushed through the office doors, and there was the most striking boy I had ever seen.

((A/N: thanks for reading! hehe... sorry for the cliffhanger... you guys will find out who it is next chaptah! till we meet again!

Me: See, Norton? I told you.

Norton: ...Fine, you were right.

Me: [giggles] So... do you like her?

Norton: Shut up.))
