Work Text:
It was something to see, the colors that blanket the city at one season of the year and yet it filled him with such excitement that he couldn’t help but bask in that when he was walking to the park one day. It was his day off and he didn’t have anything important to do so he decided, why not have some lunch and just admire the cherry blossoms.
Not long after the flower viewing event, Atsushi was just glad to breathe in relief as the last time he was there, the agency was his company. Nothing terribly bad happened but as soon as alcohol was served, some of the adults got a bit loose, to put it lightly. He was too preoccupied by the good food and the flowers to notice until it was getting late.
During that time, he caught eyes with another person who was having their own party not too far from where he was. Admittedly, he shouldn’t have given them a lot of attention, but he couldn’t help it. He was eating some a bento and the other was drinking wine from a cup. They shared a smile, meaningful glances and silent gestures that made him feel special.
That day ended too quickly but he left with a skip in his step.
He was brought back to the present as he sat under a tree and placed his bento next to him. He was wearing some casual clothes and sat under his sweater, didn’t think to bring a blanket at a time like that. He didn’t want to stain his pants on his day off. Yawning, he closed his eyes and let his mind wander. The scent of the cherry blossoms was in the wind and the sounds of birds chirping and faint cars passing by soothed him into a light rest.
Peaceful days didn’t come that often after all.

Chuuya never had a day off very often. Out of many of the mafia members in the organization, he traveled vastly just to maintain its power. It was exhausting but someone had to do it. He yawned as he was walking through the city. He originally planned on just going to the grocery store to get a few things so he can cook something for lunch but he has been walking for a while now, probably just bored with the free time he was given. As he yawned, he looked over and noticed that he was across the street from the park.
With the cherry blossoms in view, he vaguely remembered a few weeks ago when he was with the Mafia, or the few that was available to see the trees when it was in first bloom. He was having a decent time but trying to keep everyone in place was exhausting. The only thing that kept him from trying not to drink himself silly was the cute young man across from him, just enjoying the food and with good company.
Not that mackerel though, he can die in a fire for all he cared.
Now that he thought about it, he had all the time in the world to just go and admire the cherry blossoms on his own. Shrugging, he went to the nearest crosswalk so he can get to the park.
Once on the other side, he stretched and continued his way into the park. He took his time down the steps and onto the sidewalk that cuts through said park and onto the other side of the black. A faint breeze went through him and he smiled, his hair moving in the wind as he continued walking. As he was looking around, out of the corner of his eye he spotted a familiar mop of light gray hair and turned his head to see if he wasn’t imagining it at first.
When he did, it was like god himself (funnily enough) was blessing the executive on that day.
Not too far from him was one of the ADA members that he had his eye on for a while. Ordinarily, he wouldn’t dream about getting close to them more than he should thanks to the truce but it was something about that member that he couldn’t help but feel drawn to. And the other was cute, he couldn’t deny that.
Against his better (and sometimes annoying) judgement, Chuuya decided to casually walk over and say hi. The closer he got, the better he saw the ADA member and realized as he got close enough that the other was sleeping. And god, if that wasn’t the cutest thing he ever seen.
Atsushi had his head against the trunk of the tree but he had been sleeping for some time that petals that fell from the tree landed on him, blanketing him in pink. His expression was soft and relaxed as if he was having a peaceful dream. Though like this he was also vulnerable to the elements of the waking world.
Not like Chuuya was going to do anything to him though.
Leaning on the trunk with arms crossed, Chuuya decided to just stick around for a bit. Was he hoping the other would wake up before too long? Admittedly, yes. The reason for that was that he wanted to talk to the ADA member for some time but of course they never meet in the middle, what with work and all. Even during that flower viewing, he can mostly remember the flowers and that young man.
How that mackerel snagged such a cutie was beyond him and he hoped that stick gets ran over by a truck.
As Chuuya was in his thoughts, a petal fell from the tree and landed on Atsushi’s nose, making it a bit ticklish as he groaned and shook his head to get rid of that feeling. He slowly felt that he wasn’t alone as he opened his eyes and noticed that he was indeed not on his own. He blinked a bit as his vision cleared up. “H-Hello?”
Chuuya looked over and noticed that Atsushi was walking. “Yo.” He waved, looking cool as he knew he can be. “Had a good nap?”
It took a second before Atsushi realized who he was talking to. “C-Chuuya Nakahara?” He was sitting upright suddenly. “From the Port Mafia…um…hey…” He wasn’t sure what was happening but better to be polite than sorry.
Clicking his tongue, Chuuya moved to sit down. “You can call me Chuuya, you know.” He looked over at Atsushi. “I don’t know what that dumb Dazai had told you but I’m not looking for a fight or anything so you can relax those shoulders, for one.” He half joked.
Atsushi didn’t even notice that he was tense until Chuuya pointed it out. Blushing in embarrassment, he slumped his shoulders and nodded. “S-Sorry.”
“Hey don’t worry about it.” Chuuya waved it off. “I never got your name though,” That was half a lie. While Dazai was held hostage, he got a first name but the other didn’t need to know that. “If you don’t mind me asking for it.”
“A-Ah, right. I’m Atsushi Nakajima.” He bowed his head. “It’s nice to meet you.” He looked up and saw that the other was smiling at him. That made him blush as he looked away. “S-So, what is Chuuya-san doing at a park, if that’s okay to ask.”
“Just Chuuya and same as you. Just taking in the sight of the trees and spending time to myself.” Chuuya hummed. “It’s my day off after all.”
Atsushi blinked before he smiled. “What a coincidence, it’s my day off too! I was just thinking about going to the park and relax for a bit.” He placed a hand on the bento box. “Maybe eat this while I’m here.”
Noticing the bento box, Chuuya hummed. “Did Kyouka make you some lunch?”
“Ah—yeah, she did.” Atsushi was surprised. “How did you know?”
Snorting, Chuuya placed a finger on the top of the box. “Ane-san has a similar box like that and she gave the other to Kyouka when she left the Mafia as a tiny gift. She was also the one who taught her how to cook. I didn’t think she would give it to someone just for a lunch break at a park.”
“….I see.” Atsushi knew that Kyouka is still trying to break away from the mafia even after passing the test but there are some bonds that just couldn’t sever no matter how hard one tried. “Um…you’re not mad about the ADA taking someone from the mafia, right?”
Chuuya blinked at the question before he barked out a laugh. “What, me? No way!” He waved it off. “If anything, I’m glad there is someone that cares about her other than Ane-san. That girl is alright but it’s not like we suffered great losses. On top of that,” His eyes softened. “She has a really good person by her side.” He smiled as he sighed through his nose. “Don’t see that often even in the city.”
Atsushi was blushing as he tried to hide his smile with a hand. This is the most he has talked with Chuuya and yet it didn’t feel weird at all. Like they can have a nice conversation as two regular people. He cleared his throat. “W-Well, I’m glad that someone in the Port Mafia cares…I-I mean not that I think you’re heartless or anything…um…”
“Don’t worry, I have heard worse.” Chuuya hummed. “It’s also good that the person that saved her wasn’t bad looking either~ Good looking and strong, pretty cute if you ask me~” He winked at Atsushi and took pride in the reaction he received.
“E-Eh!?” Atsushi was flustered as he almost fell backwards in shock. He had seen Dazai in action before, with every woman he meets and yet he never thought he would be on the receiving end of it. “A…Are you flirting with me?” Him? An ADA member? Maybe it was a joke or something—
Chuuya huffed as he leaned close to the other, a faint blush on his own face. “Yes, I am. Is it working?”
Going back to the flower viewing, Atsushi would be lying if he didn’t think about the Port Mafia executive. He knew this was dangerous, but he couldn’t himself to care as much as he should. He can only apologize to Dazai in his head despite the excitement coursing through him. Covering his mouth, he nodded shyly. “Y-Yes…” He looked up at the other. “So…what now?”
‘God, he’s too cute’ Chuuya swallowed before he leaned back a bit. “How about I take you to dinner later? My treat.” He scooted closer to the other. “What do you say?”
Atsushi smiled a bit behind his hands as he chuckled. “As long as it’s something with a lot of food, I don’t mind.”
Nodding, Chuuya pointed to the bento box. “Speaking of food, maybe you should get some in that stomach of yours.” He joked.
Laughing, Atsushi nodded as he picked up the box. “Um…want some? I don’t mind sharing.”
The day couldn’t have gotten any better but hell, maybe those kinds of days can go on like this, nice, peaceful and with a cute tiger boy by his side. “You know what, sure. I would love that.”
