Work Text:

Hoseok felt so nervous it was a miracle he managed to smile.

He hadn’t been able to eat any breakfast, and now he was sure his face was green and pale and blue and all other colors of the rainbow.

Yoongi sat unknowing in the other room, doing some last minute work on his computer, reading glasses on, wearing the softest sweater. He didn’t work home often, but today Hoseok had told him he’d bring him on a date. Anniversary date.

Today they’d been dating for two years. Though, calling it dating felt too small. Hoseok was certain than little Yoongi was his soulmate, and he wanted to keep him forever.

And he would. He had the little box with the silvery diamond ring resting in his pants pocket. It felt like it was screaming in pocket. Constantly screaming at Yoongi. Here I am! In Hoseok’s pocket! Right here! Hoseok’s gonna propose to you today! Say yes!

Hoseok was sweating and kept wiping his forehead with the back of his hand and arm and shirt sleeve. Today was the day. He’d planned everything into the last little detail, for weeks.

They’d bike to the top of a hill. Yoongi liked biking, and loved the sky and watching the clouds. They’d have a romantic picnic on the hill. No crowds, no interrupting. Just the two of them. Hoseok had prepared Korean food to eat and several boxes of Kumamon cookies. Yoongi’s favorites. Then Hoseok would open a bottle of champagne. Treating his little baby.

He’d prepared a text he’d written, about how much he loved his angel and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with him. Then he’d take out the ring and ask him.

Hoseok felt like fainting. He couldn’t do it.

No, he had to. Yoongi was too shy and laid-back to plan a whole day long date like this. Hoseok wanted to be the one to propose. He wouldn’t mind carrying Yoongi into the sunset in his arms either. Hoseok could plan the wedding too. They could have a huge Shrek wedding riding to a castle by horse, or just exchange rings in their apartment. It didn’t matter. But he wanted to get married to Yoongi. Yoongi was so precious and special. Yoongi needed to know how much Hoseok loved him. Again. A date twice a month and living together didn’t feel like nearly enough.

Hoseok glanced at Yoongi as Yoongi walked into the shower, leaving the bathroom door half open. Normally Hoseok would’ve creeped into the shower with him, like he usually did, pinching Yoongi’s butt until he giggled or tried to push Hoseok out of the shower again. But today Hoseok only sat in the couch. Leg nervously bouncing. Sweat rings growing under his armpits.

He couldn’t even blame the heat. They had air conditioning in their apartment. But it was warm outside. The end of summer. It brought him back to the day he’d kissed Yoongi for the first time two years ago, outside, watching the sunset. They’d met through friends. Through Jin to be exact.

Jin had worked at Hoseok’s dance studio for six months, and during those six months he’d been constantly bothering Hoseok, babbling about his cute but single friend ‘Min Yoongi McBoongi the jjang jjang’, and the only way to shut him up had been to agree to meet this McBoongi.

It only took one look for Hoseok to fall in love.

It was thanks to Jin that Hoseok had met his soulmate, and that’s why Jin would be the first one Hoseok told later, after Yoongi said yes.

Unless… Hoseok felt close to puking. What if Yoongi didn’t say yes? What if he said no? He knew that Yoongi loved him, but he also knew that marriage wasn’t something super important to Yoongi. It wouldn’t surprise him if Yoongi was the kind of person who didn’t even like the concept of marriage. Finding it too outdated and traditional.

Now Hoseok felt like crying. How could he have forgotten about that? Would Yoongi get mad at him?

No. Hoseok shook his head. He knew his baby. Yoongi would smile and be happy. He might keep a cool façade most of the time, but deep inside he was the biggest softie in the world. He’d say yes.

“What should I wear?”

Hoseok’s heart jolted. He glanced up, finding Yoongi standing in front of him, hair wet and towel draped around his hips. Hoseok gaped. It should be illegal to look that hot and cute at the same time.

“Hey, are you okay?” Yoongi suddenly looked concerned, reaching out a hand and feeling Hoseok’s forehead. “You’ve been silent all morning. Did something happen? We can cancel the date if you don’t feel good.”

“No!” Hoseok almost shouted. Too loudly. Yoongi jerked back, looking confused. Hoseok pressed a smile. “I’m okay, baby. Just a bit nervous. Want the date to be perfect.” He let out a nervous, awkward laugh.

Yoongi smiled at him. He sat down on his lap and gave him a quick kiss. Hoseok smiled into it, feeling warm, until he started feeling nervous again.

Yoongi got dressed. Hoseok felt stressed. Then it was time to leave. Yoongi was wearing black shorts and a grey shirt. He looked super cute. Hoseok was wearing bright green pants and a white shirt. They were like the sun and moon.

Hoseok grabbed the picnic basket, or well, it was a backpack. They would bike to the hill, and the bike he’d rented didn’t have a basket in the front.

Yoongi grabbed a bucket hat and sunglasses before they left. Hoseok also helped him put sunscreen on his arms and face, even as Yoongi grimaced and laughed at him for babying him.

They left the apartment and walked to the street. But the bike wasn’t there anymore. Hoseok started panicking. Had someone stolen the bike he’d rented?

Then he saw it. Someone had just moved it. Phew. Hoseok grinned as he grabbed the bright green tandem bike and rolled it to Yoongi.

“We’re gonna bike?” Yoongi asked. He didn’t look too amused. Hoseok gulped.

“Have you biked on a tandem bike before?” Hoseok asked. He hadn’t. It had been Taehyungs idea, actually.

Yoongi shook his head, putting on a smile for Hoseok. Hoseok internally screamed. Didn’t Yoongi like to bike? He did. But maybe on an own bike.

Too late now. They were already behind schedule.

Hoseok took the front seat, and Yoongi sat down behind him. Getting pushed by Hoseok’s big backpack in the face. Hoseok panicked again, then Yoongi offered to carry the backpack instead. Hoseok wanted to say no, today I’ll treat you my baby prince, but Yoongi was already taking the backpack off from Hoseok’s shoulders.

“Ouf, this was heavy. What did you pack in this? A corpse?” Yoongi joked with the backpack on his back.

The date already felt like an epic fail.

“I’ll take it. We can change seats-”

“It’s fine.” Yoongi patted Hoseok on the back, then he hugged him. Hoseok blushed. Then Yoongi pressed his nose against Hoseok’s neck. “You smell like sweat.”

Yoongi was really blunt sometimes.

“Stop sniffing me baby, I’m trying to remember the way.” Hoseok pressed a quick kiss to Yoongi’s cheek before he remembered the way to the hill. Yoongi sat up behind him.

Then they tried to start biking.

Another epic fail.

They got one meter until the bike tilted too much to the left, and Yoongi had to put a leg out not to fall. Hoseok blushed, from frustration. They tried to start biking five times until they were both sitting up and pedaling.

And then he remembered he’d forgotten the helmets. They were sitting on this death trap without helmets. Maybe they’d die now. Hoseok would kill them both as he tried to propose.

Hoseok had forgotten his sunglasses too. The sun was sharp and bright, blinding him. It was too hot to bike outside. The street was pretty crowded too. What had he been thinking, actually listening to Taehyung’s crazy ideas?

“How’s it going back there?” Hoseok asked Yoongi over his shoulder.

“Gotta love the view,” Yoongi said. “There’s a hot guy right in front of me. He smells like hamburgers.”

Hoseok squeaked. “Yoongi! Stop embarrassing me!”

“But I like hamburgers,” Yoongi laughed.

Hoseok grinned, feeling a mix of soft and embarrassed. He’d been sweating buckets for hours so he probably smelled like a monkey by now. He glanced at Yoongi over his shoulder, winking at him, hit by how much he loved him.

He shouldn’t have done that. He accidentally steered the bike into a ditch, and both him and Yoongi fell off, landing on mud, dirt and pebbles, the heavy bike hitting them on the shoulders. It hurt. Really bad.

“Shit,” Yoongi cursed, trying to get back up.

“Oh my god!” Hoseok gasped. Yoongi lied squished beside him, pain on his face and rubbing his elbow.

The date went on like that. Disaster after disaster.

Hoseok and Yoongi fell off the bike another three times until they reached the hill. The very, very steep hill. Hoseok led the bike then, carrying the backpack, as Yoongi walked beside him, panting from the effort and the sun.

They were both covered in sweat and dirt. Hoseok had already run out of water.

But then they finally made it to the top of the hill. To the little cliff with bright green grass and an oak tree. The place where Hoseok had kissed Yoongi for the first time.

Yoongi slumped down on the ground, spread his limbs, closed his eyes and groaned. Hoseok leaned the bike against the tree. It slid on the grass and collapsed by Hoseok’s feet. Hoseok was tempted to kick it. Stupid bike that had ruined this important day in his life.

Then he smiled. He opened the backpack and spread out the blanket.

Well, that’s what he would’ve done, if he’d had a blanket. His stomach dropped when he saw that it wasn’t in the backpack. He’d forgotten it at home.

Jesus. Hoseok started taking off his shirt, so Yoongi would have something to sit on, but Yoongi stopped him, telling him it was fine.

Pouting, Hoseok grabbed the food. Only that he’d forgotten the food as well. There were only two empty water bottles, one water bottle with one sip left in it, the bottle of champagne, and cookies in his backpack. And a package of flour.

What the actuall poop. Hoseok must’ve been so nervous this morning that he’d forgotten about the food, and blanket, and had somehow thought they’d be in use of a package of flour.

Sitting down in front of Yoongi on the grass, Hoseok offered him an awkward smile. He held out the package of Kumamon cookies, smiling at him.

“Happy two years anniversary, baby. I love you.”

Yoongi started smiling, taking the cookies from Hoseok. “Kumamon cookies? You know I love Kumamon. Thanks Hobi, and I love you too. Has it already been two years?”

Hoseok nodded and giggled. “I know. You know what they say. Time flies when you have fun.” He winked at Yoongi and grabbed one of his hands in his own. His hand was sweaty. Cute.

Yoongi winked back. “And with fun, you mean…?”

“Feeding Mickey.” Hoseok grinned.

“Yeah,” Yoongi gave Hoseok a funny look, giving his hand a tug. “If that’s what they call it these days.”

Hoseok leaned in and pressed a kiss to Yoongi’s lips. He loved his baby so much. Yoongi was so smart and witty and like nobody else. He was a unique little diamond. There was a whole universe hidden in that little body. It didn’t matter that the date had been awful. He had Yoongi. It was fine.

Yoongi kissed him back, arms wrapping around Hoseok’s shoulders. Hoseok put Yoongi on his lap and smiled into the kiss, making Yoongi straddle his lap. Yoongi tasted good. He always did. Hoseok would never get tired of kissing him, never get tired of the feeling of butterflies in his stomach as their lips met.

Then Yoongi suddenly shouted out in pain. He broke the kiss and cursed.

Fuck! What was that!”

Confused, Hoseok glanced around with a racing heart. Then he saw it. A huge wasp just took off after having stung Yoongi’s left hand, where he’d been holding the package of Kumamon cookies.

Gasping, Hoseok grabbed Yoongi’s hand. “Oh no! Did it sting you? Does it hurt?”

“Yeah,” Yoongi said, and as Hoseok looked at him he found tears forming in his eyes. Hoseok’s heart tugged with pain and panic.

He’d have to propose another day. This date was a whole epic fail. Everything had gone wrong. He’d just have to face it. He wasn’t supposed to propose to Yoongi today.

But he remembered something. He always kept emergency medicine in his backpack, a habit he’d picked up after a strange summer at summer camp. So he grabbed his backpack and found the little emergency kit in the pocket inside it.

They had just enough water left so Yoongi could swallow allergy medicine, and Hoseok could clean his wound. It didn’t seem to be swelling up, but Yoongi said it hurt, and it looked red and nasty.

Hoseok tried kissing it better, kissing Yoongi’s cheeks and wrist, and Yoongi smiled thankfully at him, but it still hurt.

They’d need to go home, so Yoongi could rest. If it got worse Hoseok would call a doctor, even if Yoongi said it wasn’t needed.

But Yoongi said he didn’t want to go home yet. Hoseok had spent so much time preparing the date. A wasp sting was nothing. The pain was fading.

It probably was, because Yoongi’s face wasn’t as pale anymore, but Hoseok still didn’t feel happy. He was worried, and he felt guilty. He grabbed the package of cookies and threw it away from them. Damn wasps. Hoseok should’ve thought about that.

In a last attempt to turn the horrible date romantic Hoseok grabbed the bottle of champagne. Getting the bottle to open was a struggle. He tried with the cork opener on his keys, seriously struggling. It didn’t want to open. But when it did the cork flied off, hitting Yoongi straight in the eye.

“Ow!” Yoongi cried out, right hand pressing against his right eye where he’d been hit hard by the cork.

Hoseok felt like a loser. He dropped the bottle of champagne and came to the rescue, examining Yoongi’s eye. The skin around it had already gone pink. The eye was reddening. Hoseok felt hopeless. He apologized and apologized and then he put Yoongi in his lap and hugged him from behind.

That’s when he noticed that the champagne was running out of the bottle beside them, lying on the side.

Hoseok reached out a hand in a hurry, grabbing the bottle, half of it already emptied. He handed what was left of it to Yoongi, but the gods were against Hoseok today, and he accidentally dropped the bottle and spilled the rest of the drink over Yoongi’s lap, wetting down his shorts.

“No!” Hoseok cried then. “No, no I- it’s not supposed to be like this!” He felt upset, angry and sad as he threw the bottle away, not caring where it ended up. He tried to wipe the wet from Yoongi’s shorts with his hands alone, having forgotten to bring tissues.

That’s when he started crying. This was so wrong. This had been supposed to be the best, most romantic date ever. Feeding each other food and cookies, biking and laughing and singing songs together, drinking champagne as Hoseok told Yoongi praises and showered him with love. Romantic kissing under the oak tree. The perfect date.

But Yoongi was wounded. Both his eye and his hand. It looked like he’d peed himself. Their clothes were dirty and messy from falling into ditches and sitting on the hard ground, that was really uncomfortable. And they had no more water. The sun was scorching hot.

“I’m sorry,” Hoseok sniffled against Yoongi’s hair. He hugged him close, arms around his chest, pressing his nose into his hair. “I’m so sorry Yoongi. This was supposed to be the best date ever.” Tears trickled down Hoseok’s cheeks. He felt like the worst boyfriend.

But then he heard something. Laughter. Yoongi was laughing. He grabbed Hoseok’s hands over his chest, leaned his head against his shoulder, sighing.

“Hobi, you always try too hard. Who says this isn’t the best date ever?”

Hoseok gulped and pouted as he leaned back and looked Yoongi in the eyes. One eye was swollen, but he was looking at Hoseok with love in his eyes. Hoseok felt happier. Hopeful. In love.

“It could’ve been worse?” Yoongi offered.

“It could?” Hoseok piped.

“I mean, we could’ve gotten killed?” Yoongi said with a small smile. “Don’t cry over this. It’s our two years anniversary. You should be smiling.” It was strange, because as he said that Yoongi stopped smiling himself. Nervousness flashed in his eyes.

“You’re right,” Hoseok said, pressing a wet kiss to Yoongi’s baby soft cheek. He loved him so much. He should tell him now. Tell him how much he loved him and propose.

Only that he realized that he’d forgotten the two page paper with the love poem at home. Damn it!

Yoongi turned around, so he sat on Hoseok’s lap, facing him. Hoseok wrapped his arms around him, admiring his face and the way his body felt against his own. As if they were molded from the same shape. As if Yoongi’s body was meant to touch Hoseok’s like this. Nothing else had felt this right in Hoseok’s life. Yoongi was the one. He’d known it the day they’d met. Yoongi was the one for him.

“Remember when we had our first date?” Yoongi asked, in a lower voice, face close, looking into Hoseok’s eyes. Hoseok had stopped crying now. He nodded. “And you told me I could do anything in the world?”

Hoseok nodded again. “Yeah, and I meant it.”

Yoongi smiled, eyes suddenly going watery. “You always do that. You give me that one push when I need it, helping me in the right direction. You support me and believe in me, even when no one else does. Especially when no one else does.”

Hoseok smiled too, stroking Yoongi’s hair. “Yeah? Because I love you.” A tear trickled down Yoongi’s cheek, but this time he was smiling. Hoseok wiped it away with his thumb, feeling warm. “You help me too, many ways. You always help me find solutions to problems, giving me a different perspective, and you always believe in me. I wouldn’t be half the person I am today if it weren’t for you. You’ve changed me, for the better.”

“I know, I’m pretty awesome,” Yoongi joked. Hoseok laughed. Yoongi wrapped his arms around Hoseok’s neck. Hoseok gave him a quick kiss.

Then Hoseok felt his stomach clench with nervousness. Now was a good moment. A great moment. No one was sad. No one was crying. They were already talking about how much they loved each other. This was his chance. The golden opportunity.

Hoseok gave Yoongi another sweet kiss before he stood up, making Yoongi stand up too. Then he got down on one knee in front of him, grabbing the little box from his pocket.

Yoongi put a hand against his mouth, grinning and gaping and staring at Hoseok with big eyes.

Hoseok was trembling like a leaf. He opened the box, showing Yoongi the silvery ring with a diamond on it. It had cost a lot. He could’ve spent even more money on a ring, but he knew that if he had Yoongi would’ve told him it hadn’t been necessary.

“Yoongi,” Hoseok started, mouth suddenly desert dry and voice breaking at the wrong parts. His stomach was a mess. But Yoongi was smiling. Hoseok felt his heart beat for him. “I love you so much. Every day I get with you is a blessing. You make me a better person, and I grow with you, and want to keep growing with you. You’re the best thing that has happened to me, the greatest gift, my best friend and biggest supporter. Would- would-” He took a pause to grin, because he was tearing up. “It’s my greatest wish to spend the rest of my life with you. Would you marry me?”

Yoongi kept staring at him, both hands cupping his mouth. Then he nodded, smiling.

“Yes?” Hoseok asked faintly. The world was spinning. He was so happy, as if lit up by lightning. He bounced up on his feet and embraced Yoongi in a hug. Yoongi kissed him instantly, arms around Hoseok’s neck, leg hooking behind Hoseok’s keeping him in place, close.

“Yes,” Yoongi said between the kisses, voice happy, giggle in his throat. “Yes, yes, yes.”

Hoseok leaned back with a big smile on his lips. He didn’t think he’d ever been this happy before. Well, save from two years ago, and one year ago, and the day he’d bought Mickey, their dog.

“Your hand,” Hoseok said, holding out the box with the ring.

“Oh, right.” Yoongi held out his left hand. Which was still a bit swollen from the wasp stung. Hoseok took the ring and put it on Yoongi’s ring finger. It only got to his knuckle, because the finger was swollen. But Yoongi smiled.

“I love it. Silver.” He laughed, but then nervousness flashed in his eyes again.

“Hm?” Hoseok urged, feeling a bit nervous himself. Had Yoongi changed his mind?

Yoongi suddenly sat down. Or no. He got down on one knee in front of Hoseok. Grabbing something from his right pocket. A little golden box.

Hoseok gaped, heart jumping violently in his chest, stomach doing a sommersault.

Yoongi smiled a comical smile as he opened the golden box, revealing a golden ring inside.

“Is this happening?” Hoseok asked faintly, pressing a hand to his chest. “Baby?”

“Hoseok,” Yoongi started, voice going shaky, eyes both happy and nervous. “You make the world a better place. You light up my world, every day, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You make hard times easy, and the good times last forever. Also, you always laugh at my jokes, and you’re super sexy. You’re the best thing that’s happened to me. Would you marry me?”

Hoseok squealed. And giggled. And laughed.

“Yes!” He brought Yoongi into a hug and kissed him hard on the lips.

Yoongi put the ring on his finger, a beautiful golden ring, and Hoseok couldn’t stop laughing and smiling about the fact that they’d both planned to propose at the same time, on the same day.

He’d been worried in vane. Yoongi wanted to marry him.

Hoseok hugged Yoongi and twirled him around in the air, giggling and laughing.

He couldn’t wait to get married to the love of his life.
