Summary:

Izuku Midoriya and Katuski Bokugo have known each other for as long as they could both remember. One summer in middle school though Katsuki doesn't see Izuku at all. It was like he suddenly vanished. He had seen his mom and...someone who resembled Izuku bringing in groceries or going on walks. But that couldn't be Izuku...right? Izuku didn't look like that. Izuku wasn't a boy.

Notes:

This story has mentions of Dysphoria and transphobia. I'm writing this because I couldn't keep it off my mind. Currently I am almost 2 weeks on T and sometimes I just want an outlet which is why I use fictional characters as such. If this seems like it would make you uncomfortable, please do not read.
Also sorry if my writing is strange, I haven't written a book since around 8th or 9th grade.

Chapter Text

Izuku Midoriya was born female, but as time went on, she didn't feel comfortable in her own skin. As puberty hit, everything started to feel like it was crashing down on her. The world felt like it was moving but she was always ten steps behind. She stopped going out as much, now just sitting in her room and watching heros on TV. Writing down any little bit of information she could get on them. Notebooks full of these analysis's sat on her desk and under her bed. It was no secret that Izuku Midoriya wanted to be the next best hero.
Summer was almost here. It was now or never. As the last week of school rolled around; Izuku sat her mother down in the living room.
"Mom" She said, taking a shaky breath. "I don't want to be your daughter anymore" She said it. That felt like a weight lifted off of her shoulders. Inko sat with a confused look on her face, not sure what Izuku meant by this.

"What do you mean Izuku? You don't want to be my daughter?" She repeated what Izuku had just said.

"No. I want to be your son. I've done a lot of research on how I'm feeling and I think I figured it out a couple months ago. I don't feel like a girl. I never did. It always stung whenever I would be called your daughter or whenever someone said she. It felt wrong" Izuku exclaimed, gripping onto the front of his shirt like his life depended on it. It was like if he let go, the world would be ripped away from him.
"Mom I think I'm transgender. I know it's probably really scary but you have to trust me. Please" tears welled up in the boys eyes as he said these words.
"Please just let me be your son. Please mom" Izuku refused to look up from his pants. His mother gently grabbed his hands and held them, smiling. That smile made all of the fear suddenly wash away. Funny what a mothers love could do.

"Honey. If this is how you feel, then I'll trust you. You can be my son. As long as you're happy and healthy, I couldn't care less if you were my son or my daughter. That means nothing to who you are as a person. Whether you're a boy or a girl, you'll always be my amazing, sweet Izuku. You'll always be the strongest person I know" Inko said. Though she hadn't noticed quite yet that she was crying too. Izuku covered his mouth, starting to sob. It was from happiness. Inko held her son in her arms and rocked him gently, letting him know that everything would be okay.

"Stupid Deku must think she's better than me" Katsuki mumbled to himself. He felt ignored as summer went on. He didn't realize before but Izuku's company was nice to have sometimes. When all your friends are fake and just want to use you for how threatening you are, the world feels lonely. Even so, he found a way. He would go to the highschool training grounds almost every day with a personal trainer who had a similar quirk to his. He practiced for hours every day, he wanted. No. He needed to be the best hero that the world had ever seen. Better than All Might himself.
Currently Katsuki Bokugo was walking home wrong a long day of training. He felt envy bubble up inside of him as he watched other preteens playing soccer at a park. Why couldn't he have people who asked to play soccer with him. The preteen scoffed at the idea of needing someone else, shoving his feelings back into the container that they had once been in. As he arrived closer to home. He stopped and stared at the Midoriya residence. Where the hell was that brat anyway? He hadn't seen her at all this summer. He stared for what felt like hours, just thinking. Something he did a lot in his free time. The door of the Midoriya home opened, two people walked out. One of these people clearly being Izuku's mom Inko but the other looked strangely familiar, but he couldn't figure out why. It was a boy, but Katsuki didn't remember Izuku ever having a brother. Not to mention a brother who looked to be the same age as him. Was this some sort of hidden twin?

-

Summer was ending and school was starting. Izuku Midoriya had gotten his hair cut, started hormones and bought a binder. He was currently one month on hormones and he was completely loving it. He didn't particularly like the binder but without it he had almost not confidence. This was all without mention of his sudden growth spurt possibly caused by these hormones. He was taller than his mom now, but still scrawny. As school got closer, his mother made it a point to the school that Izuku was to be referred to as he, and be treated like every other boy. Who knew Inko could be so scary.
Izuku had made it a point to start going on runs every day, and to start working out some. After slipping on an oversized shirt and some jogging pants, Izuku was out the door for his morning run. But there was one problem. Katsuki Bokugo was walking out of his house at the same time. Midoriya froze as Katsuki's gaze settled on him.

"Who the hell are you?" The blonde asked, walking over.
"Deku didn't tell me he had a brother" He said. Izuku was shaking in his boots. He was only a bit a bit shorter than the blond.

"It's...Izuku, Kacchan" The green haired boy said, trying to sound confident. Confusion stuck Katsuki's face. There was no way that this was the same Izuku that he had bullied all through elementary and their first years of middle school. His voice is what startled him the most. It had only been a month of the hormones but it had done a lot for his voice already.

"Who the hell do you think you're trying to kid? You're not Deku. Do you think I'm that fucking stupid? Huh?!" He yelled. Of course when he couldn't understand something, it angered him.

"I am! I swear Kacchan I'm Izuku" The shorter boy said. Bokugo stared. Only Deku ever called him by that name.
"I just" He stared at his feet. Trying to figure out what he should say. "I'm a boy Kacchan" he stated bluntly.

Bokugo stared for a moment before scoffing.
"Whatever you say, Deku. Even if you are a boy now, you're just as quirkless and useless as you were before" The blonde grumbled. He turned his back away from Izuku and started down the road. He would make sure to figure this out.

Izuku let out a breath that he hadn't realized he was holding in. The just teen smiled a bit, he knew that that was Bokugo's way of expressing himself. Even if it sounded rude, Izuku knew that he was at least accepted by his childhood friend.

-

Later that night, after Bokugo had arrived home, he opened up his laptop. He had skipped dinner entirely.
'Girl wants to be a boy' was what he searched first. Down the rabbit hole he went. Hours and hours of research on this. After a while he stumbled across the suicide rates and for some reason he felt his heart sink. He suddenly felt as if he had to protect Izuku. He closed out of his tab and closed his laptop. As he now laid in bed, he couldn't get those statistics out of his head. He tried to sleep but it wasn't working. He grabbed his phone and scrolled through the contacts.
'Deku' one of them read. He called that number. It was almost 3 am but he just felt as if he had to make sure Izuku was safe. The phone rang a couple times before being answered. He felt immediately relieved. On the other end there was some shuffling and a groan.

"Kacchan? Why are you calling me, it's almost 3 in the morning" The greenete stated, sitting up in his bed. Bokugo sat silent. Not sure what to say. He hung up. For some reason he felt himself trembling.

-

The rest of summer went on with no issues. Any time that Bokugo saw Izuku he would just ignore him.
The first day of school rolled around. Izuku left his home, for the first time wearing the male uniform. A little ahead of him he could see Bokugo walking. He decided that maybe it would be best to leave him alone for now.
Midoriya walked into his first period class, sitting in the back. He set him backpack down and sighed. This morning had been filled with anxiety. The stares he was getting from other students, and he knew why. He looked around the room and saw his childhood friend sitting across the room, looking tired. He smiled, half glad that the angry blonde was in his class.
After all the students pushed into the classroom, and after the bell rang, the teacher stood up.

"Alright class. Today we will be introducing ourselves. When it's your turn, you will stand up, say your name, quirk, and something interesting about you" The man stated, sitting back down at his desk. He pointed to Bokugo first.
The now teen stood up from his seat, glaring everyone down.

"I'm Katsuki Bokugo, my quirk is explosion and I'm gonna be the number one hero" He said, no enthusiasm in his voice. Some kids in the class snickered at this, but he glared at them, causing them to tense up and shut up.
The rest of the class went without issue. Of course until it got to Midoriya.

"Hello, I'm Izuku Midoriya, I..don't have a quirk" He said before quickly sitting down. He heard the laughing and covered his head with his arms, trying not to cry.

"Hey Midoriya, why the hell are you in the boys uniform? Since when did they let girls wear that?" A boy across the room asked. This just made Midoriya curl up for in his seat, tears forcing their way out. Suddenly the room went silent as Bokugo stood up. He went over to the boy he said it picked him up by his shirt.

"No one, makes fun of Deku except for me" He said, anger filled his voice. He put his palm to the boys head and let off a blast. Just enough to knock him out.
"Now if anyone else wants to make fun of him, just fucking remember, I'LL KILL YOU" He screamed the last part. The classroom was filled with whispers. Midoriya looked up, only to see Katsuki looking at him. He quickly hid his face.

"That's enough. Back to your seat Bokugo, you know that it is unacceptable to use your quirk in school" The teacher said. He had already heard all about Bokugo and Midoriya both already. Bokugo grumbled and went back to his seat. The rest of class went smoothly. Midoriya took notes, but he couldn't stop thinking about what happened. Bokugo stood up for him.
After class, Midoriya packed up all of his stuff. He shoved everything into his backpack. Two boys, a bit older than him, walked over, cornering him.

"So you wanna be a boy, huh?" They both laughed.
"That's fucking funny. I mean I knew you were delusional, but this is just next level!" They laughed again. Midoriya was curled up in the corner. Him and these boys were the last people in the classroom. One of them kicked Midoriya in the ribs, causing him to start crying, holding his side.
Bokugo was going to his locker when he realized something. He forgot his tie in class, he hated that damn thing so he always took it off. He sighed and turned around, going back to the classroom. He walked in, looking around. He saw the two boys hovering over a sobbing Izuku. The blonde set his stuff down and walked over.

"What the hell are you losers doing?" He asked, looking at the boys and then at Midoriya.

"Just teachin this nerd a lesson. If he wants to be a boy so bad then he's gotta learn to be tough" One of them said. Bokugo stared before lifting up his hand, making both boys confused. Midoriya knew exactly what was about to happen. He covered his head just as Bokugo let off a blast at the boys, sending both of the flying into a wall. The fire alarms went off due to the explosion. Katsuki sighed and helped Izuku up, handing him his stuff. He silently grabbed his own stuff.

"Come on loser, I'm not waitin here all day" He said, smirking as he looked back at Midoriya. The greenete quickly followed Bokugo out of the door. Most students had already made their way out of the school.
"Ya know, if you really are a boy, you need to learn to stick up for yourself" Bokugo said. For once he didn't sound angry.
"You can't let losers like them push you around" They were both silent for a moment.
"I can take you to the highschool after school, I can teach you how to stand up for yourself" The blonde said.
Izuku just smiled and nodded

"That sounds great"
