Chapter Text
The morning sun shined through the window. It was a pretty bright and clear morning, perfect for interrupting someone’s sleep.
“Hey, it’s time to get up. It’s Monday, you know what that means.” A voice near the window called out.
Nearby was a bed, and on the bed, a somewhat rough, just-about-middle-aged man with a beard and medium length dark brown hair.
He sighed and got up out of the bed, rubbing his eyes.
“Good morning, Mr. Gordon Goldwin.” The voice said to him.
Gordon Goldwin, otherwise known by others as Mr. GoGo, is a 45 year old man that appears rough and tough on the outside, but really has a kind heart for others.
He’s often seen wearing a cowboy inspired outfit, complete with a patterned poncho, cowboy hat, leather boots, and even a holster that he carries around a toy gun in for fun.
“You’re always on top of things, aren’t you, Luke?” Gordon said to the person standing beside the open window.
Luke smiled back. “I’d like to make a good impression when I eventually become a teacher here.” He replied, enthusiastically.
Luke, otherwise known as Lucas Thorne, is a 17 year old student moved from England to Gordon’s place. Why is that, you ask?
Well, you see, fine reader. Gordon Goldwin is the head teacher of a school dedicated to teaching young stand users how to use their powers and when to use them in a non-stand user society.
Gordon got out of his bed and went to his nearby dresser to pick up his trusty cowboy hat. As a kid, he’d always been obsessed with old western movies and cowboys, so he decided to stick with that theme in his adult years.
“Ah yeah, we have a new student coming in today, actually.” Gordon remembered.
The student was a boy, around the age of 13, who had recently manifested what is only described as a “troublesome” stand.
For some reason, this reminded Gordon of his own younger years. He developed his stand around the age of 13 as well. He was visiting his folks in Mexico when suddenly, a storm had hit, damaging quite a bit of the town, and in this critical moment, Gordon’s own stand manifested to help the others. It was then he also learned his old man had knowledge of stands himself.
Gordon snapped out of his flashback and cleared his throat, before leaving the room.
“Breakfast?” He asked Luke, with Luke nodding his head.
##
They both arrived in the kitchen, which was more like a large cafeteria for the school.
The building they were in was a large mansion owned by Gordon himself, but he uses most of it as a school for teaching stand users, and only really has a few rooms to himself.
Gordon’s only able to afford such a place with the help of a generous anonymous individual that’s helped fund his dream school for years.
Luke opened the fridge and pulled out some leftover pancakes and thew them into a nearby microwave before sitting down with Gordon.
“So,” Gordon started.
“You really want to live here and work here as a teacher?” He asked Luke.
Luke brushed through his short blonde hair trying to make it a little less shaggy.
“Yep, I have no intention of going back to my old place.” Luke replied confidently.
“Huh. You never did tell me what it was like back there.” Gordon commented.
“Well, back when I lived in England... It was nice for the most part, but honestly I got in trouble all the time for my stand and I just couldn’t really help it.” Luke admitted.
“I used to live in this small town towards the northern side of England, the people there were quiet, and my dad was... Less than quiet, especially when it came to my ‘imaginary friend’ he called my stand.”
Gordon cleared his throat as the microwave beeped. He got up and pulled out the hot pancakes and served them up between the two of them.
“Parents and stands don’t mix well for the most part.” Gordon admitted, remembering his mom’s reactions to his stand abilities despite her not being able to see stands.
“Unless they’re a user themselves, of course.”
The two of them ate some pancakes as another person entered the kitchen area. They looked back to see one of the teachers, Victoria Leons.
Victoria was rather tall, and she usually looked tired. She had her red and white hair down most of the time, but might occasionally put it up in a bun.
She walked into the kitchen and reached for the coffee pot to find that there’s no coffee left in it.
“Which one of you drank the last of the coffee?” She asked, mildly irritated.
“Not I.” Gordon replied in a goofy voice.
“Nope.” Luke answered.
“Maaannn...” Victoria uttered.
Victoria sighed before preparing a new pot of coffee.
She went to grab some ground coffee beans and threw them into the coffee pot. Suddenly, a large figure appeared beside her!
“You’re not gonna use your stand again to heat the coffee, are you?” Luke asked, knowing exactly what’s going to happen.
Victoria’s large goat-like humanoid stand stood beside her. It had intricate glowing orange symbols all about it’s body, and 3 large horns on it’s head.
The stand’s middle horn began to glow, and fire streamed out of it directly into the coffee pot, somehow speeding up the process.
“I want coffee now.” Victoria remarked.
After a bit more breakfast and talking, Gordon checked his watch to see that it was now 9 AM. Time to get the students up.
There weren’t too many students in the school, but the few that were there were magnificent and bright individuals who had great potential. The school mostly accepted kids and teens in who couldn’t control their stands properly, but occasionally an adult might join and soon graduate too.
Gordon looked around for someone in particular, but still only saw Luke in the room, since Victoria had left earlier.
“I wonder what’s keeping Jacques?” Gordon asked himself.
Luke looked up from a newspaper he was looking at.
“Oh? Wasn’t he working overtime last night?” He asked.
“Yeah... But he’s usually up at around this time every morning anyway.” Gordon replied.
After a brief moment, Gordon decided to get up. He took his empty plate that previously held his leftover pancakes, and put it in the sink.
“Right, I’m heading to his room.” Gordon told Luke.
Gordon left the kitchen and began walking down the halls to get to the stairs that lead up to the teacher rooms. Jacques was one of the few teachers in this school, but he was quite a fun person to be around, and always full of energy.
Just as he spotted the stairs, he saw Jacques rushing down the stairs in his pajamas and his hair all shaggy and undone.
“Monsieur GoGo!” Jacques stammered, stopping a bit before Gordon.
“Jacques! You’re up a little later than usual.” Gordon joked.
“Ah, sorry! I must have slept in, see. I was quite busy last night preparing something for the new student, and I lost track of time!” He explained himself.
“Ah don’t worry about it, you’re not in trouble or anything.” Gordon told him, leaning against the wall.
Jacques looked shocked for a moment, before looking for a nearby mirror. He spotted one somewhere next to Gordon and took a run for it, immediately pulling out a comb from who-knows-where and brushing his hair up into a sort of Faux Hawk style.
“Ah, I need to look my best today, you see.” Jacques commented.
“I mean I know we’re getting our first new student in quite a while, but you don’t need to push yourself, you hear?” Gordon mentioned.
Jacques finished his hair, then remembered something.
“Ah yes, almost forgot!”
Jacques struck a pose, lifting his arms into the air and bending his leg upward. He then spun around and arched back flamboyantly.
Suddenly, a bright looking figure appeared beside him, also posing.
“My La Rochelle!” Jacques introduced his stand.
“You always like to make a big show of your stand, don’t you?” Gordon chuckled.
Jacques’s stand “La Rochelle” is a tall, dark and slender stand covered from head to toe in disco-ball-like glass squares. The bands around it’s wrists, ankles, and neck glowed a bright blue.
Suddenly, the stand’s hand changed into what appears to be a microphone, and put it up to it’s face. With no mouth, it began to announce something in a voice similar to Jacques’s.
“It’s morning time, morning time! Time to get up, rise and shine! We have a new student on the ho-ri-zon!” It announced all singsongy.
The voice echoed all throughout the halls, but not too loudly.
“My La Rochelle’s ability to ‘reflect’ sound and sights to different locations is perfect for this!” Jacques giggled.
It wasn’t too long after that sounds were heard from nearby in the student dorm rooms.
Some students began to leave the rooms and enter the hallway that Gordon and Jacques stood in. There weren’t many students, maybe 10 or so, but it still got busy during the day.
One of the students, Abby McKenzie, approached Gordon and Jacques.
“Morning, Mr. GoGo and Mr. Dubois.” She greeted them.
“Howdy do, Abby?” GoGo asked in a jokey cowboy accent.
“I uh... Didn’t actually get any sleep last night, eheh...” Abby admitted.
Gordon raised his eyebrows. “You know that’s not good for you.”
“I know... I dunno, guess I was just not tired is all.” She explained.
“Well, I’m off to get breakfast, see ya.” She waved before leaving to the kitchen with the rest of the students.
Jacques and Gordon stood for a moment before following behind to get ready to prepare breakfast for the students.
##
Everyone was seated in the kitchen. All of the students, and all 3 of the teachers. And Luke, too.
Gordon munched on some chips despite eating breakfast not that long before.
“I thought you wanted to cut down on eating so much, hmm?” Jacques commented.
Gordon stared at the bag of chips in his hand for a moment, remembering that he had previously planned to cut down on snacking and start working out a bit more.
“Just this one bag, m’kay?” He joked, causing Jacques to raise his eyebrows.
A bit more time passed as the students ate breakfast and the teachers chatted about, before suddenly, a large bell rang throughout the building.
Gordon opened his eyes wide in excitement but also shock, because this must be the new student, but he also forgot to keep an eye on the time.
Gordon got up and jogged out of the kitchen, with Luke and Jacques following behind.
Traveling down the hall, they found the front door.
Gordon approached and opened the door up slowly to see what was outside.
Before them was a boy holding two bags in his hands and a backpack around his back. The teachers noticed that there didn’t seem to be any parents around to introduce their child.
Gordon opened the door and smiled.
“Welcome! Come on inside!” He politely held his hands out motioning for the new student to come in.
Behind them, the other students were peaking at the new student.
When the new student walked in, Gordon noticed that they seemed to be wearing rubber gloves around their hands.
“Oh, do you need help with these?” Gordon asked.
The boy looked at him with a neutral, but calm look, before speaking.
“I do not speak English well.” He said in an accent.
Gordon knew the boy came straight here from Japan, but was never made aware of his English speaking skills. This presented an obvious communication barrier, but no barrier is going to stop Gordon from teaching his students, so he already decided it’s time for him to learn Japanese.
Suddenly, the boy handed him a paper, and on it was some really fine handwriting. “I can write English well. I have a hard time speaking it. Excuse me.” It read.
After reading it, the boy handed him another note.
It was a special note from his parents that was written in Japanese, but apparently translated by the boy himself.
“Please, you must give him his own room to live in. He cannot be with other students, ask him about his special power.” Gordon read out to Jacques and Luke.
They all looked at eachother for a moment.
“So, what’s his name?” Luke asked.
Gordon remembered back to the file about the new student.
“Kaito Miyazaki.” He replied. “He’s from Japan, and looks to be that he doesn’t speak much English, but he seems to write it just fine.” He finished.
This is going to be a bizarre day.
