Chapter 1: Great Start

Chapter Text

Jin reached over to turn off his alarm that was currently blaring loudly. He groaned and ran a hand over his face. He was still so tired. They had a long day of dance practice yesterday and his body was screaming for more rest but he couldn't because they had to do it all again today. He groaned again when he sat himself up as his muscles screamed in protest.

'You okay?' Asked an amused Yoongi from the other side of their shared room.

'My legs are killing me.' Jin said while trying to get up from his bed. He turned towards Yoongi once he was finally on his feet and noticed his smirk. 'It's not funny, Yoongi-yah!'

'No, you're right. Being old isn't funny at all.' Yoongi said with a straight face but burst out laughing when Jin chucked his pillow at his head. He quickly ducked and escaped from their room still laughing loudly.

'Brat.' Jin muttered to himself before making his way to the bathroom to get ready for the day.

After getting himself washed up, dressed and semi-presentable, Jin limped his way downstairs to the kitchen where he found all the other members already enjoying breakfast except for Taehyung.

'Where is Tae?' He asked the others. 'He should be up by now. We're leaving in 20 minutes.'

'I told him to get up when I left our room but he told me to leave him alone so I did.' Namjoon explained. 'Figured he would get up soon.'

'He told you to leave him alone?' Jimin asked from the other side of the table with a worried expression on his face.

Namjoon looked over at Jimin. 'Yeah, he was kind of rude if I'm honest but I figured he was just tired.'

Jin sighed loudly and rubbed his face. He was not in the mood to deal with a rude maknae today. He was in a lot of pain from yesterday and he hoped he didn't need to punish one of his dongsaengs today. As the eldest of the group it was his responsibility to discipline the younger ones. He hated doing it though. It always made him feel like a traitor in a way. They were supposed to stand together always but when he was punishing the others it made him feel like he was separate from them. He knew that the others don't blame him for anything when he does decide to punish them and he was very grateful for that but it didn't make it easier though.

'I'll go see if he's up yet.' Jin said and turned around to make the agonizing trip back upstairs. Although moving around a bit had made it a little easier on his sore legs.

When he got to Taehyung and Namjoon's room he knocked on the door. He knocked again when he didn't receive an answer. 'Tae? Are you up yet?'

When he still didn't receive a response he slowly opened the door to let himself in. He felt instantly annoyed when he entered and found a still sleeping Taehyung.

'Taehyung! Why on earth aren't you ready yet?! We're leaving in 15 minutes!' He yelled in the direction of Tae's bed.

Tae shot up straight as the loud yelling startled him awake. He shot an angry look at Jin when he saw him standing in his doorway.

'Jesus... do you mind?' He said to Jin while rubbing his tired face.

'I do mind actually. Now get your ass in gear and get dressed. If you hurry you might be able to get a bite of breakfast before we leave.' Jin said irritated. He already didn't like the attitude Taehyung was giving him.

Tae let out a deep sigh before swinging his duvet back. 'Fine...' He mumbled under his breath. 'Whatever you say.'

'It's your own responsibility to make sure that you get to practice on time. I'm not your mother.' Jin said as he made his way to go back downstairs to get some breakfast himself.

'Then stop acting like you are.' Taehyung shot back.

Jin turned back towards Taehyung and gave him a firm glare. 'Watch your mouth.' He said in a dangerously low tone.

Taehyung visibly shrunk in on himself at the tone of Jin's voice. He knew he was treading on dangerous ground right now and if he wasn't careful, this day would start even worse than it already was.

He looked down at his lap while still sitting on the bed. 'I'm sorry, Hyung...'

'Be downstairs in 2 minutes.' Jin declared and made his way downstairs again. While walking downstairs he wondered if he should have asked what was wrong. Maybe something happened and he was feeling bad about it. Jin felt a little guilty for not even asking if he was okay but truth be told, he didn't really care at the moment. He was having a pretty shitty day so far himself and the day had barely even started.

He got to the kitchen and dropped himself down on an empty chair, grateful to be able to get off his feet for a little bit. He grabbed a pancake that was still leftover and quickly starting to eat it.

Jin hadn't said a word since coming back downstairs and the other members were looking at him with worried expressions.

'Jin-Hyung? Is everything okay? Is Tae-Hyung okay?' Jungkook asked.

Jin ignored him and continued eating his pancake but before Jungkook could open his mouth to ask another question, Taehyung appeared in the kitchen, dressed in a cap and hoodie that were both covering his head and some sweatpants. He flopped himself into an empty chair.

Jin noticed Tae literally looked like he had just rolled out of bed but he chose to ignore it because at least he was downstairs.

'Don't bother sitting down. We need to go... now.' Jin said, his mood worsening by the second.

Suga, sensing the tension, quickly got up and started collecting all the plates to take into the kitchen. Hobi and Jungkook getting up as well to help. They didn't bother doing the dishes now as there was no time and they could do them once they got back from practice.

'Come on, everyone. Let's go.' Jin said once the table was cleared. The members started moving towards the door, except for Taehyung, who didn't show any signs of moving from his chair any time soon.

Having lost every bit of his patience, Jin roughly grabbed Taehyung by his upper arm and dragged him from his seat, towards the door.

'Owww!' Taehyung yelled. He reached up trying to get Jin to loosen his grip on his arm. 'You're hurting me, Hyung!'

Jin ignored him and pulled him out of their dorm, towards the elevator that lead to the underground parking garage of their building. The other members were already at the elevator and looked at Jin and Taehyung concerned.

The elevator pinged and the doors opened. Jin roughly shoved Taehyung inside, finally releasing him, causing Taehyung to stumble and his hood fell from his head. He rubbed his sore arm trying to ease some of the pain. The other members quickly shuffled inside as well. Jimin was beside Taehyung.

'Are you okay?' He whispered to Taehyung. Jin being this angry made Jimin very nervous so he tried hard not to be noticed but he still wanted to make sure his best friend was okay.

Taehyung just shrugged, not feeling like talking about it now. The tension in the elevator was becoming more and more unbearable by the second so Jimin sighed in relieve when the elevator pinged again, indicating that they reached the parking garage. They saw their car with driver waiting for them. They always met in the parking garage so that there was no risk of someone spotting them.

Everyone got out of the elevator and Jin reached out to grab Taehyung again to put him in the car but he dodged Jin's hand.

'Don't fucking touch me, you asshole!' Taehyung snapped at Jin. His anger had reached boiling point by the time they reached the garage. He opened his mouth again to do some more yelling but before he could, his head snapped to the side by a sharp slap to his face. A loud clapping sound sounded through the empty parking garage.

Taehyung gasped and lifted his hand to his face, then turned back to look at Jin in shock, tears glistening in his eyes from the sharp and intense pain of the slap. The look in Jin's eyes scared him. They were so full of fury that he almost took a step back but managed to control the impulse.

Jin lunged forward and grabbed hold of Taehyung's arm again. 'Don't you ever talk to me like that again!' Jin yelled in his face.

Taehyung cowered in his grip. 'I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Please, Hyung!' Tears were streaming down his face. Taehyung had never been this scared of his Hyung before. He had also never seen him this angry.

Jin suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder. 'Hyung...' Jin blinked out of his rage and turned to look at the person speaking. 'Calm down... let him go.' Yoongi said quietly. Jin suddenly realizing what he was doing quickly released Taehyung.

Yoongi turned to Taehyung. 'Get in the car, Taehyung-ah.' He calmly said. Taehyung immediately went to go sit in the car. 'Everyone else too.'

When everyone was in the car Yoongi turned to Jin and pulled him a little further away from the car so they could talk privately without the others hearing.

Jin was completely quiet and tears were slowly falling from his eyes. He was staring to the wall of the garage a little to Yoongi's right. Yoongi reached up and carefully wiped the tears from Jin's cheeks before turning Jin's face to look at him but Jin instead looked at the ground.

'Hey... look at me Hyung...' Yoongi said softly.

Suga's tone made Jin look up but when he met Suga's eyes, tears started falling harder. Suga pulled Jin into a tight hug. 'It's okay, Jin-ah.' He rubbed comforting circles on Jin's back which seemed to help as Jin took a deep breath in and moved a bit away from Yoongi. He looked up at him.

'I lost my temper...' He started. Suga stayed quiet, giving Jin time to continue. 'I haven't been feeling well today and I was having a hard time because of that and when Taehyung-ah kept pushing me the way he did.... I just snapped...' He rubbed his hands over his face. 'Oh God... I feel terrible.'

'To be honest... he deserved that slap. I would have done it myself if you hadn't... but I know that you don't like punishing them so impulsively.' Yoongi said.

'It's too high of a risk. I could really hurt him if I act on my anger. That's never my intention when I punish you guys.' Jin said.

'I know... and Tae knows too.'

'God, he looked so scared. I never want anyone to be that scared of me, especially not any of you guys.'

'He was scared of you... I think we all were a little.' Yoongi said making Jin look up at him in shock.

'It's okay... we just don't see you that mad very often. I'm not scared of you, Hyung.'

'Do you think he'll forgive me?'

'Of course. He loves you but I don't think you should apologize just yet. Let him sit with it for a while.' Yoongi suggested.

'I don't think I can. I need to apologize for my rash behavior.'

'It's your decision... but you might want to do something soon.' Jin looked at him confused. 'Have you seen the time?'

Jin quickly whipped out his phone from his pocket to check. 'Shit! We're so late! Hyungnim is going to kill me! Come on! We have to go!'

He quickly ran to the car with Yoongi running behind him. He opened the door and jumped in. Suga jumped in next to him and closed the door.

'Sorry for the delay. We had some things to work through.' Jin said to the driver. 'We can go now.' The driver nodded and soon they were on their way.

Jin heard sniffles coming from the backseat and he turned back to see Tae snuggled up to Jimin. His face buried in Jimin's neck and Jimin softly stroking his hair.

'Taehyung-ah...' Jin said softly.

Tae extracted his face from Jimin's neck to look at Jin and the look on his face nearly broke Jin's heart. The fear was still clearly visible on his face along with the very red mark on his cheek.

'I'm sorry, Taehyung-ah... I lost my temper and I should have waited to punish you when I was calmer instead of acting on my anger. I hope you can forgive me for scaring you.' Jin felt tears well up again in his eyes but he blinked them away.

Taehyung immediately grabbed Jin's hand at his words. 'Of course I forgive you, Hyung! I was so scared that you hated me. That's what I was afraid of...' Tae said that last bit quietly.

Jin placed Tae's hand between both his own. 'I could never hate you, Taehyung-ah. I love you. You're my family.'

Tae stared crying again. 'I'm so sorry, Hyung. I didn't mean what I said to you.'

'I'm not saying I fully forgive you yet but I do accept your apology and I don't hate you. We'll talk about this later okay?'

'Okay...' Tae said.

Jin turned back around to the front. He felt Yoongi's hand on his knee and looked at him grateful for his support.

'You said you weren't feeing well. What's wrong?' Yoongi asked.

'I've just got this really bad muscle pain in my legs. I can barely move without a lot of pain. I seriously don't know how I'm going to get through dance practice today.'

'Hmm... maybe you should rest. That's what your muscles need. Was that why you sounded so old this morning?' Yoongi asked smirking.

Jin smacked his arm at his remark. 'Yes, thank you. It was especially hard to get out of bed this morning.'

'Talk to Hyungnim. See if you can sit today's practice out.' Yoongi suggested.

Before Jin could reply his phone rang. 'Speak of the devil...' Jin said.

'Hello?' He said into the phone.

'Where the hell are you?! You're 20 minutes late! This is unacceptable, Jin!' He heard on the other end.

'I know, I know. I'm so sorry. We'll be there in about 5 minutes.' Jin said.

'Hurry up!' And with that, the manager hung up.

'He sounds mad.' Yoongi unhelpfully commented.

'Yeah, no shit...' Jin sighed. As the oldest member it was his responsibility to make sure they all got to their appointments on time. If one of the members was late, he was the one to get in trouble for it.

They soon arrived at Bighit studios and quickly got out of the car and made their way upstairs to their studio where they would be having dance practice today. Their manager and the choreographer were waiting in the studio for them. Their manager was standing with his arms crossed and looked pissed. Jin quickly walked up to him and opened his mouth to speak but was silenced by a raise of hand from the manager.

'I don't want to hear it, Jin. I seriously can't believe this. How long have you been doing this? You should know by now that showing up late is unacceptable! Time is money!' He yelled at Jin.

Jin looked down at his hands, not daring to speak.

'I should punish you for this.' The manager said making Jin's head snap up. Their manager had never threatened to punish him before. It was making Jin very nervous.

'Whatever...' The manager said with a sigh. 'Just get to work and don't waste any more time.' Their manager started to walk out of the room.

'Uhm... wait... please, sir.' Jin said a little unsure.

'What now?' The manager said as he turned back around.

'Uhm...' Jin was worried about mentioning his muscle soreness. Scared of angering his manager further. 'I have very bad muscle soreness from yesterday's practice and I was wondering if it's okay if I just observe today's practice.'

'Are you fucking kidding me?!' The manager roared making Jin take a step back. 'No, it's not okay. You will do the practice like everyone else. I think it would be good for you to feel a little pain so you will just push through it, do you understand me?'

'Yes, sir.' Jin said feeling defeated. This day just keeps getting better and better.

Their manager left the room and Taehyung quickly walked up to Jin.

'I'm so sorry, Jin-Hyung. This is all my fault.' He said to Jin.

Jin put a hand up to silence him. 'Don't even talk to me right now, Taehyung-ah.' Jin said, feeling his previous anger flare up again.

Taehyung looked sad at hearing Jin's words but quickly moved away from him. Jungkook patting him on the shoulder reassuringly.

'Okay, let's get started guys!' The choreographer said and they got into position.
