"Once upon a time, misbehavior in school was dealt with quite swiftly. It allowed students to pay their penance without it hanging over them." That isn't an answer to Rain's question, but Phayu continues on before Rain can ask again. "While I understand why people today view such a practice as barbaric and of the past- I think for someone like you, it could be quite beneficial."
Beneficial- "I… I don't understand what you're offering, P'Phayu."
"I'm offering to physically discipline you. You can say no, of course. We can discuss other alternatives for how to deal with your feelings of failure and uncertainty. But I do believe it would be the most effective option, and I couldn't, for my own conscience, withhold it from you for that reason."
Physically discipline- "You mean like-"
"Spanking."
Plain. Simple. Spanking. Phayu was offering to spank him. Like a child- except Rain's parents certainly never spanked him. But… Rain trusts Phayu. Fully. If he says it's the best path forward then- "Okay."
