The feeling of sand wasn’t new to Nene, she knew it very well since forever. Even so… the feeling of sand under her feets still managed to surprise her and feel brand new. She tried moving her toes, feeling it better and playing a little with the sand.
Nene looked up and, in front of her, an amused Hanako was looking at her.
“Aren’t you going to move from there?”
“O-of course i’m going to! I was just getting ready!”
“Then come here, I’m waiting.”
Nene knitted her brows and puffed her rosy cheeks. That Hanako… Why did he have to be like that? She was about to do it without him having to say anything! She was ready, she was more than ready! And she was going to do it!!
Looking right at Hanako’s eyes, she steadied herself before inhaling deep and preparing herself to move.
Nene lifted one foot and…
She lost her balance and was going face first to the sand.
Only that, rather than eating sand, her face felt warmth and that she hit something firmer than the sand. When she opened her eyes, Nene saw a red shirt. Oh no…
She was pretty sure who she was going to find if she looked up, but without being able to avoid it, she did so anyway and what she saw was the grinning face of a certain black haired prince.
“Are your new legs so fat that you can’t walk?” He asked with fake innocence, as if he didn’t know where he was poking with his words.
Offended, Nene made a sound that died in her throat and pushed Hanako away. How dare he?!
But she didn’t think about the little detail that, doing that, she lost what was holding her, and so she lost her balance. Once again she was going down, and this time without anyone to catch her. Nene could only close her eyes and wait for the impact.
Luckily, she reacted in time to extend her arms so the fall didn’t hurt as much.
Nene opened one eye and she saw amber.
What…?
She opened the other and she realized that she was looking at a pair of amber eyes.
Nene blinked a couple of times and realization started to dawn on her.
A pair of amber eyes, black hair, a nose and cheeks as red as ripped cherries…
Their noses were almost touching and their breaths were mixing as one.
“Y-Yashiro…” Called Hanako, any trace of his impish smile was gone. Now he was looking away, with his face blushed all the way to his ears.
“Hanako-kun!!” In an instant Nene face combusted, she was blushing furiously and she could feel her cheeks burn like they had never done. She didn’t wait a second longer to sit and put distance between them, especially their faces.
At that moment she was mortified and felt like she couldn’t look at Hanako in the eye. Her mind was racing with such a jumble of words that she didn’t notice when Hanako had gotten up. While she was distracted, he had stood up in front of her and offered her a hand.
“Here, up. I will help you practice so you don’t fall again. Just hold my hands tight.” His cheeks were still dusted with a soft pink, but his voice and gaze were much softer than before.
Nene looked at him with wide eyes and at a loss for words. She couldn’t believe the sudden change, but still lifted her arm and grabbed the hand that Hanako was offering.
“Now, don’t let go, okay?” He said, smiling tenderly for her and helping her get up.
“Mm-hm!!” She held his hand tightly and smiled brightly back at him.
She was from the sea.
He was from the land.
But neither of them would ever let go of the other.
