Chapter Text
Namjoon hurriedly looked back as he saw black slimy tentacles inches away from his body. He swam with all his might, his royal blue tail moving frantically as he tries to flee from the sea witch.
“Give up! Soon, all your power will be gone!” Yoongi snarls, his tentacles almost grabbing hold of Namjoon.
His gills on his neck began to inhale water frantically as his ear fins moved with anxiety. Taking a deep breath of water, he rises to the surface, the moon light lit the ocean as Yoongi surfaces as well. The sea witch raised his hand, Namjoon gasping as his powers slowly leave his body. Essences of dark blue shot out of his body and into Yoongi’s grey tinted palm, a sinister smirk plastered on the sea witches face.
Namjoon snapped his head side to side, looking for anything to try and save the last bit of his power. His eyes widening when he spots a human near the shallows of the water, wasting no time he scrambles to get to shore. Yoongi briefly stopping as he looks at Namjoon dumbfounded. The Mer-Prince’s webbed hands dug into the moist sand as he dragged himself onto land, the human looking at him with a mixture of fear and shock. If he wasn’t currently getting his powers striped away from him by an evil sea witch, Namjoon would marvel at the beauty this human possessed. Fluffy brown hair and the most beautiful warm brown eyes Namjoon had ever seen. Surrounding the beautiful orbs that were the humans eyes, there was some sort of glass device surrounding them, something the sea-prince had never seen before. The human’s plump lips were parted in surprise, Namjoon seeing how close Yoongi was wastes no time smashing their lips together. Namjoon could practically feel the confusion rolling off the young man, but he couldn’t afford to stop now.
Closing his eyes, he lets the small amount of power he had left flow through his cold lips into the humans warm ones. He breaks the kiss once he was sure all of what was left of his magic went into the innocent human. The handsome male fell unconscious into his wet arms, the sea prince himself started to feel dizzy.
“You’ve bound your souls together.” Yoongi says almost sounding impressed, “By giving him the last of your power you’re tied your souls.”
Namjoon’s head was too foggy to fully understand what the other was saying. Had he intertwined his soul with the human? As hard as he tried to stay focused, he couldn’t as his vision began to blur. His tail started to tingle as he finally fell unconscious, his body falling limp into the human’s unmoving one.
“I’ve got enough of his power to give to him, it shouldn’t matter about the last bit of his power.” Yoongi says as he descends back into the sea.
Namjoon’s breaths matched the human’s as their heart thumped at the same time, almost as if they were one. Unknown to him, his magnificent royal blue tail had split in two. The regal scales morphing into soft long legs, as his gills slowly disappear. The ear fins he possessed, morphed into human ones as his Aqua blue hair faded into a midnight black.
Today was a big day for Namjoon, he was officially to be crowned king of the sea. At only a couple of moths old, Namjoon was orphaned. His parents were attacked but a corrupted shark, the creature usually docile around mer-folk was corrupted with dark magic. Once the ruler of the sea dies, all of their power goes into the heir, in this case, Namjoon. Growing up, people feared that the child would be cruel and arrogant, but Namjoon was the complete opposite of that. The prince was kind, if not a little awkward. Elder merfolk helped shape the Prince into the Mer he was today, by the age of 10, the prince was as intelligent as them. When he was 14, he found a young mer boy alone in the deepest part of the sea. The boy was only 2 years younger than him, but he could pass as a 9-year-old with his short frame. The Mer-boy had gotten lost, Namjoon making sure to get him back home.
Since that day, the two became best friends. The boy- Jungkook always followed Namjoon around after that day. Now 10 year later, Namjoon who just turned 24 was going to be crowned king, while Jungkook became his bodyguard at the age of 22. The royal guard trained the younger hard until he became the best mer-knight in the kingdom.
“Hyung, you’ll be fine.” Jungkook says reassuringly, Namjoon’s tail moving frantically.
“I know Jungkook, but this is a big deal. I mean, soon I will rule the whole ocean….”
“Hyung, you’ve had the power of the sea practically since you were born. If anyone will rule well, it’s you.” The younger says reassuringly, his turquoise green tail slowly moving.
Namjoon lets out a small sigh as anxiety fills him. While many in the kingdom adored him, there were still many who thought he was too inexperienced to rule. Even Namjoon himself has doubts about becoming king, and fully binding himself to the sea until he died.
“I know I have no choice, and I know this is selfish, but I don’t know if I want this…” He admits softly, Jungkook looking at him in surprise.
“You don’t want to be king?”
“It doesn’t matter, soon I’ll be bonded to the sea.”
Jungkook looked at the elder unsure, as Hoseok swims like a bullet towards them. His orange hair matching his fiery tail, his face full of excitement. Namjoon knew from the look on his face, it was time.
“It’s time your majesty.” Hoseok says excitedly, Namjoon sighing once more.
Hoseok was his royal advisor in training, the Merman’s father currently Namjoon’s main advisor. When his father would step down, Hoseok would take over. While Hoseok was nice, Namjoon never formed a close bond like he had with Jungkook.
Namjoon took a deep breath as they swam towards the throne room, the Prince’s ear fins fluttering nervously.
The throne room was located in the middle of the ocean palace. There were no wall like a traditional palace, it was an open space. Each side there were stone columns, hundreds of Mer-people filling the room as they wait for their prince to become king. All eyes were on him as he swam towards the throne, the throne itself was made with the rarest pearls the sea had to offer. Namjoon internally cursed at how his ear fins continued to flicker anxiously, everyone instantly able to tell how anxious he was. Hoseok and Jungkook stopping as Namjoon nervously sits on the throne, an elder holding a magnificent golden crown.
The ritual was about to begin, soon Namjoon would be bound to the sea. Just as the ceremony was about to begin, black smoke filled the ocean as Yoongi appeared.
Yoongi was a name that everyone came to fear, the sea witch was the son of the most powerful sea witch. Namjoon instantly raised as Yoongi approaching him, the witches’ black hair standing out against his grey skin.
“Seems someone forgot my invitation.” Yoongi says with a smirk.
Namjoon’s heart was hammering as he approached the sea witch, Jungkook’s webbed hands held tightly around his spear.
“Everyone is welcomed here, even you Yoongi.” Namjoon calmly says, Yoongi scoffing.
“Seems you truly are as naive and stupid as I’ve been told.”
Before Namjoon could react, Yoongi raised his hand. The Mer-Prince falling to the sandy floor A pure blue light leaves his body. It took him a few seconds to relies that the light was his power. From the corner of his eye, he could see Jungkook about to attack Yoongi. The sea witch easily grabbing him tightly with one of his many black tentacles, the younger scrunching his face in pain as the tentacle tightens around his toned body. Namjoon’s hand shook as he raised it, using his power to fling Jungkook away from Yoongi.
“Too many people here…” Yoongi mumbles as black mist engulfs him and Namjoon.
Yoongi teleporting him and Namjoon into an empty part of the ocean. Namjoon’s body already exhausted from so much of his power being striped, quickly he realises that Yoongi stopped taking his power when he teleported them. Not knowing where he was heading, Namjoon quickly swims off, Yoongi on his tail.
Seokjin had been told many times in his 26 years of living, if he was more confident, he would be handsome. He was everything but confident, his nerves always getting the best of him. His younger brother Taehyung was the complete opposite to him, he was confident and out there. Despite that, he only had one friend- Park Jimin. Seokjin and Taehyung knew Jimin from an early age, the boy’s stutter attracting lost of attention. Some found it cute and endearing how Seokjin would hang out with his brother, but the real reason was that Seokjin had no friend of his own.
While his brother’s passion was music, his was the sea.
“Hyung, it’s just water. How interesting can it actually be.” Taehyung whines as he, Seokjin and Jimin set up to study in the college library.
“Just because you find it boring, doesn’t actually mean that it is.” He says with a sigh, pushing his glassed up.
“E-e-everyone l-l-likes d-d-d-d-different t-thing T-tae.” Jimin stutter out as they sit down.
“Yeah , but you and study cool things. It’s no wonder you have no friend hyung.” Taehyung says, instantly regretting his choice of words. “Hyung, I-“
“It’s fine Taehyung.” Seokjin says standing, grabbing his books. “I need to go to administration before they close anyway, I’ll se you guys later.”
Seokjin slowly walked away from the library to the administration office. It wasn’t a lie when he said he had to go there, although he had been avoiding it all week. Jimin and Taehyung were here on scholarship, while Seokjin had to pay for his administration. As soon as he entered the room, he could tell things weren’t going to end well.
“I’m sorry Seokjin, you’re 3 months late with your payment. We can’t delay it any longer.”
“Please, I just got extra hours from work-“
“Unless you have the money with you today, you can no longer be a student here. You’re more than welcome to come back here again to study marine biology once you have enough money.”
Seokjin stiffly nodding as he walks out of the office towards his dingy apartment. Because of Taehyung and Jimin’s scholarship, the two had a dorm on campus. Seokjin had been working since high school so he could have enough money to buy an apartment and pay for his school fees. The place itself was anything but aesthetically pleasing, but he didn’t care. It was close to the ocean, and that all that mattered to him.
As soon as he walked in, he dumbed his books om the kitchen table. Unshed tears grew in his eyes, as he runs a hand through his hair.
“It’s really not my day today.” He says softly, as a tear escapes his eye.
Wiping his eyes, he leaves his apartment and head to his place of comfort, the ocean. The orange rays of sunset began to drive people away from the beach, but they welcomed Seokjin in. The gentle breeze and soft sand felt like a second home to him. Sitting down, he looked out watching the waved roll over.
Night cam quicker then he anticipated, as the moon began to shine over the ocean. Looking down at his phone, he sees that it’s already 8 pm.
“3 hours on the beach alone, maybe I am really a loser.” Seokjin says laughing at himself, just as he was about to leave, he hears a splash in the distance.
Looking outwards, he sees a silhouette of what looks like a large fish. His body seemed to be glued to the sand as the fish began to hastily swim towards him. Seokjin felt his heart hammer with anxiety when he sees that the fish has a human face. Falling to the ground, all he can do is stay frozen as the fish creature webbed had grabs the back of his soft hair. His eyes widening as the creatures places his wet lisp onto his own. A warm feeling surged through the creatures lips into his body, as darkness consumes him.
