Chapter Text
The day of the Sports Festival came. Katsuki would never admit it, but he was excited. More than excited. He was pumped so full of adrenaline he couldn’t sit still. He couldn’t wait to show all those extras who the future number 1 hero would be, not only to his fellow classmates, but to the world. Show them he was in a league of his own after he crushed them into the dirt. Especially Icyhot and that Deku… He still didn’t understand that whole situation. How did that loser even get into UA? Did he always have a quirk? Was he laughing at him this whole time?? Hiding it from him???
Katsuki scoffed at the thought. Like it mattered. He would beat him anyway. Beat him along with everyone else in his way. Whoever stood between him and becoming number 1.
The school arrived at the stadium where the Sports Festival would take place. Shortly after, they entered the arena class by class with his own first, followed by class 1B and so on. The crowd roared. Their screams echoing all around in addition to Present Mic announcing them with his co-announcer Aizawa. His classmates seemed intimidated, but not Katsuki. He was used to eyes being on him. Ever since he was a kid and his quirk manifested, adults and classmates fawned over him and his power. This was no different. Just part of being a hero. It comes with the job.
Midnight took center stage as the host to make the introductory speech. She called on Katsuki to take the stage and say a few words to kick off the competitions considering he did place first in the Hero Course Exam. He had no idea this was going to happen, but no matter. He’d make it short and to the point.
“ I just wanna say, Im gonna win.” He was immediately booed by everyone, but he didn’t give a damn. He simply walked off the stage. If they doubted him, well, he would soon prove them wrong, and then laugh in all their faces.
The first game would be an Obstacle Race. Simple. He had it in the bag. If he wanted to, he could simply blast his way over these poor excuses for competition.
He hated to admit it, but it was, to his surprise, a bit more difficult than he expected. He didn’t have to push himself too often but he was, begrudgingly, learning that maybe, maybe he had a bit more competition than he thought amongst his classmates. And, even more to his surprise, that damn nerd Deku, somehow pulled a win out of his ass at the last second.
Tsch. Maybe this would be a challenge. But he eagerly accepted, and he stood by his opening statement. He would win.
The second game was announced; a Cavalry Battle. Katsuki chose his team carefully consisting of Dumb Hair, Raccoon Eyes, and Tape Arms. His plan was fool proof and worked very well until the end when he simply ran out of time before he could snag Deku’s headband. That Icyhot bastard ended up with it in his possession, which made the loss to him even worse. He did however, advance to the final round. He hadn’t won any of the games yet, but he would not lose the last, and most important game.
Two of the finalists decided to give up their spots in the final competition because they didn’t feel like they earned it or some shit, so Midnight chose 2 others to take their places. That metal kid who’s quirk is similar to Dumb Hair’s and some red headed girl advanced in their places. Like it mattered. Surely they’d get crushed before they even got close to facing off against Katsuki anyway.
In the first round, somehow again, by a hair, Deku won against that brainwashing kid. It seemed like it was going to be a quick match with the brainwashing kid coming out on top, but again, Deku managed to win. That idiots luck is definitely due to run out. And so it did in his second match against Icyhot. Katsuki would have loved for Deku to make it to the final round so he could wipe the floor with him and put him back in his place after he beat him in their first class together at Ground Beta. But he would be just as happy if he ended up fighting Icyhot in the final match. That’s how it seemed it would play out.
In Icyhot’s third round, that red headed girl (who Katsuki couldn’t ever recall seeing before in school) knocked him out of the competition. When it happened everyone went silent. The red headed girl, who’s name he learned to be Saoirse, took her time beating him almost as if she was unsure of it all. Unsure of what though? This is a competition! Bring it, or sit out with those Extras who withdrew.
Icyhot never even landed a hit on her. What was her quirk? Some sort of indestructability? Some sort of shield? It was unclear to everyone. The only thing that seemed to happen when she used her quirk was her long wavy hair floated up above her head as if she were under water and her previously striking blue eyes glowed a intense, pale gray. What did that tell him though? It was just a tell, letting everyone know she was utilizing her quirk. Katsuki could hear Deku obnoxiously muttering his theories as he scribbled in his notebook, but he found himself straining to eavesdrop because he himself was completely stumped on what her quirk really was. Present Mic was going wild with his announcements as he theorized what her quirk was as well. Aizawa seemed to be deep in thought as he chose not to weigh in. Katsuki looked around himself. Surely someone had to know what her quirk was. Which class did she belong to?
He didn’t have anymore time to theorize as his match with Bird Brain was coming up. He had a solid strategy. Attack, and attack fast, over and over so the Bird Brain didn’t have a second to think or use his powerful quirk. It worked to his advantage as he was able to figure out his weakness. Light. So he made plenty of it with his explosions and took him down quickly.
He did it. He was a semi finalist. Not that he ever doubted himself, not one bit.
There was only one more person between him and winning this whole competition. The mystery girl. It absolutely didn’t make him one bit nervous that he was seemingly going into this fight blind. Tsch, whatever. He could do it with or without knowing her quirk. This is just a small step on his path to becoming number 1 and no one was going to stop him.
They faced each other on the field. This is it. Do or die
