The Naval Officer Moodboard

Notes:

The lovely Winz created a moodboard for this story. Thank you Winz!

I know nothing about warfare or the ROK Navy! So please take any Navy related content with a grain of salt.

Thank you Rachel for commissioning this beautiful art for the story.

Chapter 1: Email 1

Chapter Text

Dear Jimin,

We've been stationed at this spot since Tuesday. The General received intel that the NK Navy will travel via this route to provide urgent supplies to their fleet further south. The plan is to intercept the supply ship.

No one tells you this when you join the Navy, but you spend 90% of your time waiting. Waiting for the alarm to blast at 06:00. Waiting in the queue for kitchen staff to serve you tasteless gruel. Waiting for the Sergeant to bark orders at training. Waiting for curfew at 22:00 when the lights go out. Waiting to head into combat.

Waiting to die.

Sometime I look at a squad, and I see a sea of ghosts. We made a commitment to the Navy, to the South Korean people, to protect and defend. When we stepped on this ship, we W ere prepared to die by the sword, so to speak. Our bodies are no longer ours. We're bullets in a machine gun, waiting for someone to pull the trigger.

I know what you're thinking, you're thinking that this is morbid and that I shouldn't be so negative. But it's true, Jimin. Sometimes the cause is bigger than an individual, and it's OK to let someone else control your destiny. I'm proud to be here, to serve.

I love you Jimin, and I cannot wait to have you in my arms again. But this is bigger than us.

My 15 mins is over. I promise next week I'll write about happier things.

Forever yours,

Yoongi
