Work Text:
Kirishima’s stomach growls as he smells the bacon on the plates Midoriya is carrying to him. They’ve finally got a much needed day off from rookie hero work and they plan to spend the day doing absolutely nothing together.
Kirishima gladly takes the plate, kissing Midoriya’s cheek in appreciation. “Thanks, babe.”
Midoriya smiles and sits sideways on the couch with his legs over Kirishima’s lap. “You’re welcome.”
He’s just about to take a bite of his eggs when his phone buzzes angrily on the side table behind him. With a sigh, he sets his plate down on the coffee table to answer his phone.
“Hello?”
“Deku-kun, hi! How are you?”
A smile spreads on Midoriya’s face and Kirishima quirks an eyebrow up, silently asking who’s on the other line. “Uraraka-san, it’s great to hear from you! I’m good! Eijirou and I actually have a day off for once, so we’re just relaxing at home. What about you; how are you and Iida-kun doing?”
The smile in Uraraka’s voice is audible. “That’s great to hear! You actually answered one of my questions I was going to ask!”
Midoriya’s face contorts in confusion. “Huh?”
“Well, you see… today is my and Tenya’s anniversary, and we don’t have anyone to watch Rinka…” she trails off.
He sits straight up. “We can watch her!”
Uraraka sounds surprised. “Wh— Are you sure? I don’t want to impose on your day to relax, I know you both need it—”
“We don’t mind!” he interrupts. Kirishima looks at him, confused.
Uraraka gave a sigh of relief. “You guys are the best, I can’t thank you enough! We’ll be by to drop her off soon, I’ll text you when we’re on the way!”
Midoriya laughs. “It’s no problem at all! See you soon!” He hangs up the phone and turns to Kirishima, a guilty look on his face. Kirishima crosses his arms and raises his eyebrows, stuffing a piece of bacon into his mouth.
“Who are we watching and why?” he asks.
Midoriya rubs the back of his neck. “Uraraka-san and Iida-kun needed someone to watch Rinka tonight, so I told them we would since we don’t have anything planned…” he pauses. “Are you mad?”
Kirishima chuckles a little and shakes his head. He leans against Midoriya’s shoulder. “Of course I’m not mad. You know I’m always willing to help out a friend in need.” He looks up to meet Midoriya’s eyes. “But… you are aware that neither of us knows the first thing about taking care of a kid… right?”
Midoriya sighs and drags a hand through his hair. “I was afraid you’d bring that up.” He grabs his laptop from the coffee table and boots it up. “We’re going to need to do some research before they get here.”
Kirishima nods and rests his chin on Midoriya’s shoulder and reads along as he searches for various resources on childcare. They sit like that for a while, reading all they can so they’ll be prepared for when Rinka arrives. Kirishima jolts, sitting up straight with wide eyes. Midoriya’s eyebrows furrow slightly.
“Ei? What’s wrong?”
Kirishima stares in the direction of the kitchen. “What’s she gonna eat when she gets here? It’s not like we have baby food or anything… What can babies even eat?” he panics, stumbling off the couch to run to the kitchen, throwing open cabinet doors as he inspects their contents.
Midoriya gets up to follow him in attempts to console his anxieties when there’s a knock at the door. Both of their heads snap in the direction of the door before looking at each other. Midoriya takes a deep breath and Eijirou does the same. They make their way to the door and Midoriya opens it.
On the other side stands Uraraka, holding a large bag on her shoulder, and Iida with Rinka sitting on his hip. Uraraka can see the panic in their eyes and gestures to the bag. “We went ahead and put everything she’ll need in here. Diapers, food, toys, books, everything.”
Iida smiles wide and claps his hand on Kirishima’s shoulder. “Everything will be alright! You two will do great; I know it! Ochako and I are both incredibly grateful that the two of you are willing to watch Rinka for the day.”
“We’ll be back in a few hours to pick her up!” Uraraka chirps. She and Iida kiss Rinka’s cheeks and say their goodbyes, setting her down on the floor in front of her babysitters for the day.
Midoriya worries that Rinka would be upset at her parents leaving, but she seems distracted by Kirishima. She runs up to him and raises her arms in the air, opening and closing her fists a few times. Midoriya laughs. “She wants you to pick her up.”
Kirishima squats down and scoops Rinka up in his arms. She coos at his long, bright hair and reaches out to grab it. Kirishima panics a little, afraid she’ll tug on it too hard, and gives Midoriya a concerned look. Midoriya waits, watching her carefully.
She doesn’t tug at Kirishima’s hair, just holds it in her tiny fist and looks in awe at the colorful locks. Kirishima breathes out a sigh of relief and chuckles a little, bouncing Rinka gently as he holds her. She notices his mouth full of sharp teeth and is immediately distracted from his hair, poking and prodding at his teeth. Kirishima’s eyes widen and he mumbles out a ‘help’ around Rinka’s chubby fingers.
Midoriya laughs and holds out his hand, hoping to distract her from sticking her hands in his boyfriend’s mouth any longer. Thankfully, his plan works, and Rinka grabs onto Midoriya’s index finger, wrapping her entire hand around it. Midoriya gasps softly and feels his heart squeeze at the sight in front of him. Rinka’s hand looks especially small wrapped around his finger, and it nearly brings tears to his eyes.
“This is the cutest thing I have ever seen,” he states plainly.
Kirishima laughs. “We can’t just sit here and gush about how cute she is all day, I’m sure she’d get bored of that pretty fast. How about we go to the park?”
“That sounds like a good idea!” Midoriya leans in to ruffle Rinka’s hair. “How’s that sound, little one? Wanna go to the park?”
Rinka bounces excitedly in Kirishima’s arms and giggles. “I guess that’s a yes from Rinka!” Kirishima chuckles.
Midoriya slings the diaper bag over his shoulder and kisses Kirishima’s cheek as they slip on their shoes and head out the door, starting the short trek to the park just down the street from their apartment complex.
Kirishima is still holding Rinka in his arms, bouncing her up and down as he babbles to her. The corners of Midoriya’s lips turn up in a smile as he starts to think.
Kirishima has always been good with kids, especially when it comes to hero work. He’s always the first one to rush to the kids at the scene to calm them down. He talks softly to them and reassures them that everything is okay and they’re safe. On the odd chance that a child gets hurt in a villain attack, Kirishima always helps escort them to the hospital, riding in the ambulance with them and holding their hand the whole ride there.
If the child requires a hospital stay after the initial emergency room visit, Kirishima makes sure to come by to visit them every day until they’re discharged. He brings them little candies and gifts, but his favorite thing to do is to play games with them in their room. His presence is soothing and relaxing to kids like they can immediately sense how much love he has in his heart for everyone he meets. Midoriya can only imagine how caring and loving he would be to his own child.
It’s definitely something Midoriya has thought about frequently, especially after Uraraka became pregnant with Rinka. He and Kirishima have been together for almost four years now and they’ve managed to present themselves as competent and reliable heroes now that they’re in their early 20’s. Midoriya loves Kirishima dearly, and Kirishima feels the same about Midoriya.
It’s only natural for Midoriya to think about their future together at this point. They’ve talked about marriage, and although it’s been in vague terms, it’s something they both want for their future together. Though unspoken, the couple wants to wait until their careers as pro heroes are cemented and steady before they move onto any bigger steps past moving in together.
However, even if marriage is on the table for the future, having kids isn’t a conversation they’ve had yet. Midoriya would love to raise a family with Kirishima, not only because his partner would be a wonderful father, but because he wants to share in that fulfillment with him. Seeing Kirishima hold Rinka and poke at her chubby cheeks only makes Midoriya want that more.
He decides he’ll bring it up another day. Today is just to have fun and play with Rinka. Midoriya is lost in thought longer than he realizes, and soon enough, they’ve arrived at the small park. Kirishima points out the baby swings.
“Wanna go for a swing, Rinka? Doesn’t that sound fun?” Kirishima coos. Rinka makes an excited sound and waves her arms. Kirishima laughs and takes Midoriya’s hand in his, leading them to the swings.
Midoriya smiles and helps Rinka into the swing, leaning in to tickle her sides. “Here we gooooo!” he laughs, pushing the swing forward. Rinka squeals and giggles and her happiness is undoubtedly infectious, spreading her smile to both Kirishima and Midoriya.
The two take turns pushing Rinka in the swing and their cheeks burn from smiling by the time Rinka is worn out nearly half an hour later. She squirms in the seat and rubs at her eyes, whining quietly.
Midoriya cards his fingers through her hair once the swing comes to a stop. “I think it’s about time to go home, huh, sweetheart?” he asks, scooping her up into his arms. Kirishima smiles and kisses Rinka’s cheek, then Midoriya’s, taking Midoriya’s hand as they walk back toward their apartment complex.
As soon as they step into the door, it’s obvious why Rinka was so irritable and fidgety at the park. They can both smell the stench coming from her diaper and look at each other with concerned expressions.
Kirishima asks, “You don’t know how to change a diaper, do you?”
Midoriya frowns and shakes his head. “No clue.”
Kirishima groans. “Rock, paper, scissors? Loser has to change her,” he offers.
“You’re on,” he agrees, setting Rinka down on the couch.
Kirishima is the clear winner after two rounds, and Midoriya rubs at his temples. “Fine, I’ll change her, but you have to look it up online and walk me through it.”
“Can’t argue with that,” Kirishima laughs, pulling out his phone to look up a how-to article.
Midoriya gets a fresh diaper and baby powder from the diaper bag, covers their coffee table in a towel, and sets Rinka down on top of it.
Kirishima reads the article aloud once and Midoriya tries to absorb as much information as he can. He readies his supplies and has Kirishima read it through again slowly, taking a deep breath before beginning the process of changing her.
The tip of his tongue sticks out between his lips as he concentrates on doing it right. The self-adhesive flaps of the diaper stick to his fingers as he goes to finish the job. Thankfully there’s no mess and Midoriya gets up to wash his hands, crumpling onto the floor.
Kirishima laughs and picks Rinka up to sit on the floor with Midoriya, running a hand through his hair. Midoriya smiles and pats Rinka’s back. “You know, for such a little girl, you sure wear us out.”
“Maybe she’s got an energy-depleting quirk!” Kirishima chuckles.
Midoriya laughs and tugs Kirishima down to lay down with him. “Let’s let Uraraka-san and Iida-kun figure that out on their own.”
Kirishima closes his eyes and Midoriya isn’t far to follow, Rinka cuddled up between them. The sunlight filtering in through the blinds highlights the three sleeping forms on the floor, all curled together and sleeping soundly.
