Chapter Text
Lio hadn’t wanted to flinch away. He really hadn’t. But when Hugo lunged at Kipo, all he could see was a crazed, blood-thirsty animal. In his memory, the lion that had bit off Dr Eska’s hand in the labs had the same expression on its face.
“No, you can’t hold her, ” Lio heard himself say, before his brain caught up and yelled that Hugo was his son, not some caged animal. He had just treated Hugo like Emilia did. He had just treated Hugo like Emilia did! His eyes widening, he opened his mouth to apologize.

Hugo snarled, flicking his arm at Lio’s face. He wouldn’t—he wouldn’t— Lio’s vision blackened.
When Lio woke up, he was alone. His son and daughter were gone.
What have I done?
