Chapter Text
Eri wasn't sure why she came here. She just couldn't talk to her dads. Yes they would understand but she just couldn't bring herself to talk to them about this.
It all started with a simple letter to UA. She had asked Aunt Nemuri not to tell her dads she got the letter.
The letter. The letter from her mother.
Her mother.
So she was here. At her brother's teacher dorm. But it wasn't unusual for her to be here. She was here a lot considering her dads lived just a floor above.
So why go to Hitoshi and not them? Because she couldn't bare thinking of how their faces would look when they will learn that she contacted her.
Well sent a letter. Who even sends letters? Old people. Her mother was old she guessed. She doesn't remember her mother.
Not really. She remembers her and her words some nights. Those are very bad nights.
So now she knocks on her brother's door.
The opened and read letter felt so heavy as she waited for him to open the door.
She was sixteen and in her second year of UA. She just won the Sports Festival. And her mother now wanted to be back into her life.
She could hear movement.
Could he hurry? She didn't want anyone else to see her. Not like this. They would ask questions and they would tell her dads that something was up. Or worse her dads would show up. Hitoshi was a first year teacher, taking over for Uncle Might.
The door swung open and for a second her brother glared at her like she was an annoying student but realization took over and he smiled at her.
But then his eyes went to the letter and her face and she knew she was crying.
"Eri? Are you okay? Do you need me to get Dad and Papa?" He asked.
"No and no. Don't get them. Not yet."
"Come on in. Denki's here though." Hitoshi said. Eri would normally tease Hitoshi that he really invited his boyfriend over to UA but she couldn't.
"That's okay." Eri said as Hitoshi let her in. She just couldn't let her dads know yet. Not yet.
Denki was sitting on Hitoshi's bed. He waved at her. "Hey Eri. Everything okay? You guys need me to leave?"
"No it's fine." Eri said as she started to sob.
Denki quickly stood up. "I should get going anyway, see you later Hitoshi. Eri I hope everything is okay. Feel better soon, kiddo."
He left, closing the door behind him.
"Can you tell me what's the matter?" Hitoshi asked her.
Eri just shoved the letter at him. He took it and she watched as he read it.
She had read it over and over before she came here. She wasn't sure how many times she did.
She knew it word by word because it was so short.
'Dear Eri,
I am so sorry for never reaching out before. I didn't know what happened to you after I gave you to my father. I still have no idea what happened especially after he fell ill and later died.
I am your mother Okamura Kimie. I would love to meet you or at least hear from you. My phone number is 81 3-6083-9687.'
And that was it.
"Eri… what do you want to do?" Hitoshi asked.
"I don't know. She abandoned me, Toshi. She called me cursed. She left me and is the reason Overhaul got me." Eri sobbed louder.
Hitoshi hugged her. "You're not cursed. You don't have to do anything. We got to tell Dad and Papa though."
"I know… I just can't. The idea scares me. How am I supposed to feel about this woman? She's my mother but I can't really remember her." Eri said.
"I know but that's okay. You don't have to decide on anything yet. It's your choice. And if you want to meet her then it's not gonna hurt anyone's feelings you know?" Hitoshi patted her hair.
"I need to think about it."
"Yes. Now let's go up to our dads dorm." Hitoshi pulled away from her.
Eri just nodded.
She followed in silence as they made their way upstairs. They passed by Uncle Sekijiro and Uncle Nezu who looked concerned but Hitoshi waved them off.
"Family matter. Don't worry." Hitoshi smiled at them. Eri didn't smile. She was feeling too overwhelmed.
Hitoshi knocked on their dads' door. Eri realized he still had the letter yet her fists were still clutched tightly.
The door opened quickly and she was greeted by the smile of her Papa.
"Eri? What's wrong?" Hizashi asked.
"Eri?" Shota appeared behind his husband.
"Her mother sent a letter." Hitoshi said.
Eri just sobbed some more. She was training to be a hero but this was too much.
Hizashi and Shota had a dark look on their face.
"Get in." Shota said.
"So what does the letter say?" Hizashi asked as Eri and Hitsohi walked into the dorm room.
"Here." Hitoshi handed him the letter.
'Dear Eri,
I am so sorry for never reaching out before. I didn't know what happened to you after I gave you to my father. I still have no idea what happened especially after he fell ill and later died.
I am your mother Okamura Kimie. I would love to meet you or at least hear from you. My phone number is 81 3-6083-9687.'
Eri just watched as him and Shota read the letter.
Shota looked pissed.
Hizashi put a hand on his shoulder. "Sho. Take a deep breath. Eri, sweetie, do you know what you want to do?"
"No I don't." Eri whispered.
"That's okay. You don't have to decide right away." Hizashi said. Eri knew he understood. His parents gave him up when he was only a baby and later tried to reach out.
He had met with them. He never talked to them after one meeting. Eri only knew about them because when she was younger she asked how he had two moms. He told her that he was given up for adoption when he was born due to his quirk. Papa Hizashi was a lot like her.
“But there is something you should know.” Shota said. His voice was quiet but angry.
Eri looked at him. “What?”
“She’s reached out before. You had only been at UA for four months at that point. You were still so traumatized from that man. She demanded that you be put back into the care of the hospital. She wanted you to not be allowed near people. Despite everything, I offered to let her meet with you and she declined.” Shota explained.
Eri’s heart dropped. Already her mother was lying to her.
“She may have changed and maybe she just didn’t want you to know about those actions.” Shota added.
“I’m going to think about this. I can’t decide anything yet. I don’t know.” Eri was so confused. Maybe her mother had changed but that still didn’t change the past. Eri still suffered so much and that woman had a second chance already.
She had to think about this. If it were Overhaul reaching out, the answer would be easy; fuck no. But this was different.
