Work Text:

"Thank you for coming with me, Leone," Bruno said. He stepped further past the foyer and into the living area and out of sight.

Leone took a breath. Bruno was alive. Bruno was alive, and Leone was infinitely, pathetically glad for it. All of their stupid, single brain celled children were alive as well, which some part of Leone was still also pathetically sobbing over.

The Frenchman was a tortoise, which. Alright then.

"Leone?" Bruno popped his head back into the foyer, through a zipper in the wall. "Sticky Fingers and I were wondering if you were ever going to move?" The way he phrased it, like his Stand was worried about him, about Leone, had something cracking in Leone's heart. "Leone? Leone!" Bruno was suddenly in front of him, calloused hands on Leone's face.

Leone realized he was kneeling on the floor. He didn't know exactly when he'd gotten there, nor did he care.

"Abbacchio? Leone?" Worry tinged Bruno's voice, and his blue – blue like the Tyrrhenian on a bright summer's day – eyes were wide. "Will you say something?"

"We're alive," Leone said. He sounded a little dumbfounded, even to his own ears. "We're alive, and this is real.”

Bruno smiled. "We're alive, Leone," he confirmed. He knelt down in front of Leone, their bodies level. "We're alive, and this is real. This is the villa we selected months ago. Before everything with Diavolo." The smile on Bruno's face was gentle, genuine, and Leone felt warmed by the sight of it.

"You're alive," Leone whispered hoarsely.

"I'm alive." Bruno nodded. Their foreheads came together, Bruno's bangs tickling Leone's eyebrows. "I've never. Never really wanted anything else," he whispered quietly. "All of that... I think it was a means to an end."

"I think I know what you mean." Leone's eyes closed, his proximity to Bruno and the fact that nobody had tried to kill them in months, not with Giorno in charge, meant he could relax.

Here, in this villa by the sea that overlooked a vineyard and the path that wound through it, they could be safe. They could grow old. Properly.

"Leone," Bruno murmured quietly. "There are tears on your face."

"I think I'm happy?" Leone admitted. "I'm. Happy." He nodded, just a little, more to himself than to Bruno.

"I'm happy too," Bruno said. "I'm happy that we're both alive and I get to share this with you." He spasmed slightly, and Leone's eyes shot open.

"Bruno?"

"Being on the tile like this is not great for my scars," he said with a grimace.

Leone smiled, ever so slightly. "Let's stand and go inside proper." He gently pressed on Bruno's shoulder, and the two former mafiosi stood before crossing the threshold together.
