“Josuke, come on, we’re gonna be late for school!” Okuyasu called. He poked his head into the Higashikata bathroom, where he was bound to find Josuke.
Josuke having what was better known as a “bad hair day.”
“Can’t get my damn hair to work with me,” Josuke growled. Crazy Diamond was floating helplessly behind him.
“Bro, c’mon.” One day without his signature hairstyle wouldn’t kill him, would it? “You’ll be fine.”
The look Josuke shot Okuyasu was full of nothing short of terror, and Okuyasu was a little taken aback. “Whoa, okay. Hang on.” He turned to Crazy Diamond. “CD?”
The Stand tipped its head and blinked. “Dora?”
“Scoot.” Okuyasu made little shooing motions and the Stand shifted out of the way. “Ok Brojo,” Okuyasu said, standing behind Josuke and holding out his hand, “gimme a minute with the comb.”
Josuke stared at him through the mirror, a shocked little expression on his face. “S-sure?” he said. The comb was passed over. Josuke’s look was a little wary, but Okuyasu was holding his comb in hand. The comb was, in a way, Josuke’s lifeline, and Okuyasu felt a little weirded out that Josuke was just letting him hold it.
Since Josuke wasn’t stopping him – and Okuyasu knew Josuke could stop him, Crazy Diamond was right there and the Hand was nowhere in sight – Okuyasu just. Started styling Josuke’s hair. It only took a couple of minutes, despite doing it on Josuke instead of his own head, but it was done and it looked good.
“I dunno if I did it as good as you would, but its done,” Okuyasu said. It was mostly to have something to fill the silence and to take his eyes off of the way Josuke’s sea-colored eyes were blown wide and the faint dusting of red on high on his cheekbones.
“Th-thanks.”
“Boys! You’ll be late for school!” Josuke’s mom called up the stairs and both teenagers started.
“Right!”
“We gotta go!”
They stampeded down the steps and out the door.
“Bye mom!” Josuke called.
“Later, Ms. Higashikata!” Okuyasu echoed.
