Also chapter 71 broke me (haha... broke me) which is why I wrote this in the first place kjhgfdfghj— so like It's super short and doesn't have much of a plot but hey that's a vibe, I guess?

Work Text:

The tapping of Yashiro’s shoes echoed through the empty halls of the school. The gates would be closing soon, she thought. She had to stay late after class and ended up forgetting about her bathroom cleaning duties. She hoped Hanako-kun wouldn’t be upset. He rarely got genuinely upset with her, but Yashiro really wasn’t in the mood to hear his half-joking whines. She stopped at the door of the girl’s bathroom, turned, and pushed it open. “Hanako-kun I’m really sorry, sensei wanted me to stay back to help sort out the student—“ she cut herself off as she saw Hanako uncharacteristically staring out the window, seemingly not acknowledging her presence. “Hanako-kun...?” Hanako blinked and turned, looking at her with a blank face for a second before reverting to his usual self. “Yashiroooooo you were late~ Did you forget about me? How could you do that~” he dramatically brought his hand up to his face. “I told you! I had unexpected school work and I lost track of time! It’s not my fault you were zoning out the entire time i explained it...” Hanako’s expression almost seemed to change between the syllables of her words. Then, like she’d just imagined it, he checked back in. “I was just thinking~ Being leader of the school mysteries is hard work, you know!” Yashiro sat by him on the windowsill. “Thinking about what?” she asked with maybe too much curiosity, tilting her head. Hanako’s face blanked out again and Yashiro decided to change the subject. Whatever it was, Hanako clearly didn’t want to talk about it, and Yashiro thought it wasn’t her place to press for details, not now at least. “Kou-kun isn’t here either, huh?” the tension in the air disappeared as quickly as it had formed. “Nah, he said he needed to help his sister with something or whatever. I bet it was just an excuse.” “Don’t be so rude! There’s no reason Kou-kun would have to lie.” Hanako rested his head in his hands “Ah of course, that kid probably doesn’t have the brain capacity to make things up.” Hanako smirked, clearly trying to get a reaction. “You’re so mean, Hanako-kun!” Yashiro cried. “You don’t say things like that about your friends.” Hanako just giggled in response to Yashiro’s lecturing as the sun went lower in the sky, illuminating dust particles and little smudges on the window that existed despite their routine cleaning. It was pretty.
