Work Text:

the slight pattering of rain can be heard from the inside of taehyung’s lonely forest cottage on a spring evening. the werewolf growls in his sleep, slowly waking up from the sudden noise. he was glad he wasn’t a deep sleeper, but at times like this, the trait would definitely come in hand. he barely had any sleep the night before, since it was a full moon and he was awake until sunrise searching for more meat to feast on. the life of an average werewolf, taehyung lived. and he despised it so much.

he rubs his eyes with his clawed fingers, coming to realize his boyfriend wasn’t there cuddling him, and he starts whimpering. like a lost puppy, he’s unable to control his emotions. he always gets a terrible headache the morning after a full moon and only wants to wake up peacefully, with his little fairy by his side.

soon enough, jungkook walks in the room, causing the wolf’s whines to cease and tail to wag, and he immediately feels calm again. “taehyungie, you slept all day. we had plans.” jungkook sits next to him, fingers running through the werewolf’s fur. he’s taking longer than usual to shift back to human; it’s been over twelve hours since he came home and his wolf ears, claws, teeth, and tail are still protruded, along with thin fur trailing down his sideburns and over parts his skin.

“‘m tired.” taehyung mutters, his head resting on jungkook’s lap. he wants to fall asleep again since his little fairy is with him now, but jungkook wants none of it. he has an annoyed expression on his face, pushing taehyung’s head off of him and back onto his pillow. he’s confused; what did he do this time?

“don’t tell me you forgot.” jungkook rolls his eyes, watching taehyung sit up on the bed. he ponders for a bit, scratching his ear with his foot out of instinct. it isn’t his first time doing so in front of the fairy, but he laughs at him every single time.

“oh, today’s our anniversary!” taehyung exclaims, wagging his tail. he would’ve forgotten completely if it wasn’t for jungkook reminding him every day this month; usually transforming from a werewolf causes his recent memory to be hazy.

jungkook smiles, petting taehyung’s hair and kissing his cheek. “good boy! i knew you remembered.” he praises; treating the werewolf like a puppy. taehyung loves it, though. he’s nothing but an oversized puppy.

“we’re meeting at the waterfall at nine, so be ready. i have to get home and change.”

taehyung whines loudly and reaches out to jungkook’s arm, pulling him into a hug from behind. “don’t leave yet, please.” the werewolf grabs his boyfriend’s right hand and leaves a trail of kisses down his arm. so romantic, jungkook thinks.

“taehyungie.” jungkook nudges at taehyung’s tight embrace. “you want me to look nice, right?”

“you look nice in everything, kookie.” he compliments, trying to persuade him into staying. this may as well be jungkook’s home anyway, considering how often he’s here.

“thank you. i’m still going home.” jungkook states, forcing himself out of taehyung’s strong arms. he notices how sad the puppy looks when he turns around. he places his hands on taehyung’s muscular thighs, leaning towards him to give the werewolf a short, gentle kiss. “make sure to wear formal attire. i’ll meet you there at nine. i love you.” he emphasizes the time, hoping he doesn’t forget.

“i love you too.” taehyung replies. and in the blink of an eye, jungkook’s transformed into tiny little pure-fairy and flies away through a crack in taehyung’s bedroom wall. has that always been there? he should probably fix it soon, but he has a date to get ready for.

jungkook made it home in less than an hour, greeting his mother and father who were sitting in the den. they weren’t usually home much, as his dad was always busy with work and his mom went out to run errands often, leaving the small fairy there alone. of course, he never stayed there long, and would go visit taehyung to keep him company. and never in a year have his parents found out about the werewolf.

mama and papa jeon were unaware of jungkook’s relationship. if they found out, he would definitely be banned from seeing him again. a werewolf dating a fairy, let alone engaging in sexual relations? it’s a newsworthy scandal. the two of them would be confined away from each other forever, alone and scared in the cold, dark chambers of prison.

jungkook tries not to think about it— tries to clear his mind. they’ve been together for a year, him and taehyung, and never even came close to being caught, because they always met in secret. although they’re great at hiding the relationship, it gets exhausting. jungkook wants to brag about his pretty werewolf, hold his hand in public, go on dates in the town, let the entire world know he’s his . it’s funny, after all, the two met in the woods one night. taehyung was heading home and jungkook needed a place to lament. as terrified the fairy was when he found out he'd been talking to a werewolf the entire time, they fell for each other that very day.

he knows taehyung is meant to be with him; although one of the most intimidating and dangerous creatures out there, taehyung is different. he actually loves jungkook; makes sure the little fairy feels appreciated and cared for and validated and every single positive feeling ever, because taehyung is made of pure, gentle love. he didn’t want to be born a werewolf, but he tries his damn best to show that werewolves are loving creatures too— and he’s already proven it to jungkook.

the fairy realizes he should be preparing for his date, not daydreaming. that can wait for later. he takes the dark blue suit hung on his closet door and places it on his bed, undressing the outfit he’s already wearing and throwing them in a clothes basket. he goes to his connected bathroom to take a quick shower, using the vanilla-scented handmade soap that taehyung fancies. he looks down at himself as he lathers, finally coming to be fond of the body he was born in. taehyung is part of the reason for that, too. in his words, the werewolf would love him no matter his body type, his fashion style, or even the physical changes he decides to go through. and jungkook is so grateful for him.

he finishes in the shower, turning the knobs tightly and covering his front with a soft, white towel. he looks in the mirror at his soaked hair, bright fairy wings, skin covered in water droplets and thinks— knows he looks gorgeous. he’s perfect and no one’s words can tell him otherwise.

he dries off and carries out his daily hygiene routine, putting on new underwear that’ll probably get taken off of him before the end of the night, knowing how him and taehyung are.

jungkook smiles widely as he imagines his boyfriend’s arms wrapped around him from behind, his wings folded down as taehyung presses kisses on his squishy cheeks and rocks him side to side so carefully. “i love you.” he can hear him whisper, because he’s said the phrase so many times it’s practically engraved in his mind. he can’t wait to see taehyung’s face again, pretty wavy hair, and dark eyelashes fluttering every time they make eye contact. to say he’s enamored is an understatement.

he continues getting dressed; it'll be nine o’clock in three hours and he isn’t even done packing the picnic basket. he’ll also have to make up a lie to his parents and say he’s hanging out with a few friends, because who doesn’t go on picnics in the middle of the night with their close friends, not to mention while wearing a fancy blue suit? definitely not jungkook. fun is his middle name, meanwhile, his parents’ middle name should be gullible for believing him all the time.

he puts on every article of his suit carefully, leaving a few buttons of the white dress shirt undone and grabs a pair of formal black shoes before going downstairs to arrange everything for their date.

“wow. you look so handsome, kookie.” taehyung, dressed in a white ruffle top and grey slacks, walks towards jungkook, who’s sitting on a stump near the waterfall they agreed to meet at. he made it there a little earlier than taehyung to set up the dinner. jungkook looks over at where the voice came from, heart flipping at the compliment and he smiles warmly; always feeling flattered and loved when taehyung praises him.

“you look amazing too, tae. i see you’re finally back.” he stands up, hugging taehyung and softly kissing his lips, arms wrapped around the werewolf’s neck as taehyung places his on the fairy’s lower waist.

“it took long enough. i hate going through that every month.” his expression changes, jungkook taking notice quickly.

“i’m sorry, baby.”

“no, i should be. i hope i don’t hurt you.” taehyung fully frowns, thinking of how people know werewolves to be unpredictable and dangerous— wondering if the rumors are true and if he may strike out on the only being he loves.

jungkook releases taehyung and holds out his hand. he takes it— a little skeptical— and the fairy drags him from the rocky waterfall and to a wooden walkway on the lake. “today’s our anniversary, let’s not think about that now.”

“true. this lake is so pretty.” taehyung changes subjects, watching the starry night sky in the lake’s reflection. he sees the waning gibbous moon in the water, indicating that the next phases will only get smaller and smaller until the new moon comes out in a few weeks.

“i know something way prettier.” jungkook says in response, catching his attention. he’s so pretty and small next to him; he loves how their sizes contrast, yet complement each other.

“what’s that?”

“a werewolf. his name’s kim taehyung.” jungkook looks off into the distance, tightening his grip on taehyung’s hand. he dreams of having freedom like this every day. being able to hold hands outside is still a new feeling for the couple— an exciting, enjoyable feeling they’d love to get used to some day. jungkook can’t wait until they find a place where they can unashamedly be themselves.

“you’re sweet. sometimes.” taehyung chuckles, letting go of jungkook’s hand and wrapping his arm around him instead, placing a kiss on his temple.

“hey! i’m always sweet.” jungkook looks up at his werewolf, admiring his sparkling eyes from the reflection of the water, almost getting captivated by them.

“mmm, sure. let me see.”

jungkook arches a brow at the comment, watching taehyung inch closer and closer towards him. his wings sparkle in the moonlight, slowly fluttering and releasing bright specks of fairy dust. taehyung kisses him messily, tongue entering his mouth as jungkook habitually parts his lips, letting his boyfriend taste exactly how sweet he is.

“very sweet.” taehyung says, their lips separating before he pecks them a few more times.

“i get it, tae, you love me.” jungkook chuckles in between kisses, hands pressed against the taller’s chest.

“i do.” he states, smiling confidently. he loves him so much, more than words could describe.

“let’s go eat, i brought some of your favorites.” jungkook drags taehyung (again) to a hidden path leading towards a secret, beautiful mini forest behind the waterfall. it’s covered in tall greenery, string lights, and taehyung can make out fairy dust particles floating in the air. there’s flowers everywhere, from white and pink roses to white and blue hydrangeas, and in the middle of it all, a table covered in a white cloth with two pillow-cushioned log seats on each side.

“happy anniversary.” jungkook turns to face taehyung, hands behind his back and an adorable bunny-toothed grin on his face.

taehyung’s speechless, it’s so beautiful— jungkook did all of this for him? he doesn’t even know what to say to thank him properly— god, did he mention how handsome jungkook looks in blue? how grateful he is for this little fairy, his little kookie, his fallen angel?

jungkook’s taken by surprise when taehyung picks him up, giving him the tightest bear hug ever known to man, and kisses him longingly. no words, not even actions can express how this werewolf feels right now, but he may as well try to show how much he loves him.

“kookie, i— i love it. i love you .” he stutters, and honestly doesn’t even care. he puts the fairy back on the ground, straightening his suit where he squeezed too hard. jungkook’s just elated that he likes it. with his height, it took him a while to get every string light to catch onto a tree branch, but he did it nonetheless. (and in perfect timing too!)

“i love you too, tae. come on!”

taehyung follows the eager fairy, watching him open the picnic basket and take out containers of food.

“i was wondering what you had planned.” he says, sitting down in front of jungkook.

“well, i remembered neither of us have been on a picnic. i thought i’d make us one sooner than later.”

“cute. i did bring you something, but i feel like it’s nothing compared to this.” he looks around and jungkook laughs.

“show me! i’m sure it’s great.”

taehyung takes the cross-body bag off his shoulder and hands it to jungkook; he hadn’t even noticed he was wearing one. he opens it and inside is a new, expensive-looking silver camera for photography. he gasps, looking up at taehyung with his pretty, doe eyes.

“taehyungie… i can’t take this. it’s too much.” he steals a glance at the nice camera again, but quickly puts it back in the bag. this probably cost a fortune and he doesn’t deserve it, he can easily buy a used one and save taehyung the money.

“little kookie. please, keep it. it’s yours now. you need a camera to be a photographer, right?”

he stares at taehyung silently, nodding his head and holding onto the strap of the cross-body bag. it seems the big puppy has a better memory than jungkook thinks. “thank you, tae. i’ll take good care of it.”

now we can enjoy our date.” taehyung says, reaching for jungkook’s hand on the table. he turns over the small hand underneath his slowly and holds it tight, making eye contact with the fairy and fluttering his eyelashes as usual. every single time, jungkook thinks to himself, smiling widely at taehyung who sweetly returns the gesture.

one year together, the couple realized. here’s to many, many more in the future.
